Chapter 7 Do You Think You Are Something?

  • Back in her room, Zoey quickly changed clothes and took a hot bath.
  • Looking at herself in the mirror, she gasped.
  • The girl in the mirror had a head of messy, yellow hair, and her face was covered in black, red, blue, and purple makeup.
  • Zoey almost scared herself with her reflection.
  • She thought about how she had kissed Jonathan looking like this and felt a twitch at the corner of her mouth.
  • The fact that Jonathan didn't kick her out on the spot truly showed his genuine love.
  • The sight was too unsightly, so Zoey quickly cleaned herself up. There was no way to tame the messy hair, so she tied it up in a little bun on top of her head.
  • After removing several layers of makeup, her fair and translucent skin was revealed, with cheeks as smooth as silk and long, thick eyelashes adorned with water droplets. With a gentle blink, her eyes seemed to hold the vastness of the Milky Way.
  • Zoey was very satisfied with her current appearance and internally berated herself for listening to Yvette and dressing up like some punk before.
  • When Marcus knocked and entered the room, he saw a girl in a pure white cotton nightgown, her freshly washed face revealing her bright and delicate features.
  • A look of surprise flashed in his eyes as he approached and handed Zoey a new phone. "The SIM card has been replaced and installed."
  • "Marcus, you're the best!"
  • Zoey was overwhelmed with gratitude, accepting the phone with both hands as if receiving a royal decree.
  • Marcus gently tapped her on the forehead. "It's late. Get some rest."
  • "Wait, Marcus! Can you do something about this mess on my head?"
  • Marcus was a master image designer in the entertainment industry, sought after by many top celebrities for his styling expertise.
  • Zoey was at her wits' end with her messy hair and didn't want to keep it like this.
  • "What do you want to do with it?"
  • "Just make it look normal and nice!"
  • Marcus laughed, tugging at the little bun on her head. "Zoey, you look good no matter what."
  • ...
  • Zoey lay in bed, playing on her phone. Marcus promised to fix her hair color the next day without damaging it.
  • She wanted to call Jonathan.
  • Though his number wasn't saved in her contacts, Zoey knew it by heart.
  • It wasn't intentional; in her past life, Jonathan had called her countless times.
  • She often treated him poorly, frequently blocking him, but Jonathan never seemed to mind.
  • Feeling a pang of regret, Zoey hesitated with her finger over the keypad before finally deciding to call.
  • At that moment, a call came in, and her hand trembled as she pressed the answer button.
  • "Zoey!"
  • The cold, crisp voice on the other end made the blood drain from Zoey's face, as if she had fallen into an ice cave.
  • She would never forget that voice, even in death.
  • Her body trembled uncontrollably.
  • Zeke, on the other end, didn't notice anything amiss and continued speaking self-righteously, "Zoey, I can overlook your usual nonsense, but Yvette has always had your best interests at heart. How could you hurt her and drive her out of the Saldana family? When did you become so heartless?"
  • Zoey's body, which had been shaking, gradually steadied as she pressed her tongue against the inside of her teeth.
  • She told herself there was nothing to fear; this wasn't her past life.
  • She didn't notice the small red dot blinking from a hidden spot above the wardrobe.
  • Zeke mistook her silence for fear and assumed she was crying from his scolding. His tone grew more arrogant. "Go apologize to Yvette right now, and I might just consider forgiving you."
  • Jonathan, listening through the monitor, clenched his phone tightly with his large, iron-blue hand.
  • His body, seated in a wheelchair, shook with fury.
  • Upon seeing Jonathan's anger, Frank and Finn turned pale as sheets.
  • What a fool! She has barely returned and is already on the phone with that pretty boy. Mr. Holmes is just starting to waver in his plans to go abroad!
  • The air seemed to freeze.
  • Then, the monitor transmitted a girl's furious shout.
  • "Who the hell cares about your stupid forgiveness!"
  • It was Zoey's voice!
  • In the room, Zoey felt her tongue go numb and her teeth itch as she listened to Zeke's words.
  • She wanted to punch him.
  • "What did you say?" Zeke was momentarily stunned.
  • "Do you really think you're something special? You're just a pauper. Without my support, without my connections getting you into school, you're nothing!"
  • "Zoey, are you crazy?" Zeke, now thoroughly humiliated, yelled, "Is this another one of your tricks? Isn't this all just to become my girlfriend?"
  • Zoey almost gagged. He ate her food, drank her drinks, and still acted all high and mighty.
  • "Why don't you take two bucks, buy a mirror, and take a good look at your face? What makes you think I want to be your girlfriend? Do you think you measure up to even one of my fiancé's fingers? I'll have someone take the apartment you live in back. From now on, I won't give you another cent. I've got plenty of money, but I'd rather give it to a dog than to you."
  • With that, Zoey decisively hung up, leaving Zeke so furious he nearly fainted.
  • On the other end of the monitor, Jonathan remained seated in his wheelchair, replaying Zoey's words in his mind. The more he thought about it, the more he began to smile.
