Chapter 5 The Revelations
- "Dad, I will prove to you that I'm not lying," Zoey said, her face expressionless as she took Yvette's phone and connected it to her laptop with a data cable.
- A flash of disdain and disgust crossed Yvette's eyes, thinking Zoey was just putting on a show.
- What could a loser like her possibly do?
- Zoey's slender fingers flew across the keyboard, leaving a trail of afterimages while lines of code flickered across the laptop screen.
- Kelvin and Marcus watched in stunned silence while a sudden sense of foreboding rose within Yvette.
- She pressed down on Zoey's hand resting on the keyboard.
- Her instincts told her she had to stop Zoey.
- She couldn't believe she was feeling a twinge of fear toward this loser. It seemed absurd, yet she couldn't shake the growing panic. "Zoey, stop this nonsense. Blaming everything on me—I don't blame you, but Uncle Kelvin's health can't take this stress."
- Zoey's gaze slowly shifted from Yvette's hand on hers to Yvette's face, her eyes filling with a mix of amusement and mockery. "Are you scared?"
- "Zoey, what's gotten into you today?"
- Yvette's face alternated between shades of pale and flushed. She couldn't fathom fearing this loser, but today, Zoey seemed like a different person, unsettling her deeply.
- Zoey always listens to me. What's wrong with her today?
- Zoey stared at her for a moment, her unwavering gaze making Yvette's skin crawl. Then, with remarkable composure, Zoey looked away.
- Her fingers resumed their rapid dance across the keyboard.
- Kelvin and Marcus, observing Zoey's serious demeanor, felt a surge of excitement. Even if it turned out Zoey was just acting out, they were pleased to see she had a skill.
- Perhaps they could encourage her to pursue a career in computer science!
- The screen gradually filled with chat records, the number continually increasing. Yvette's eyes widened in disbelief, her panic intensifying.
- Under her fearful gaze, Zoey forcefully pressed the final key. "Done!"
- The screen had been flickering too quickly for anyone to read, but now the chat logs were frozen in place, with several key messages magnified for emphasis.
- It was Yvette's messages to Zoey.
- She informed Zoey that if she didn't want to marry Jonathan, there was a way out. All she had to do was severely injure him, preferably rendering him bedridden forever, and the engagement would be annulled.
- Most of Zoey's actions to harm Jonathan had been orchestrated by Yvette.
- After reading all the chat logs, Kelvin felt a chill run down his spine. Yvette, who always appeared gentle and serene in public, was terrifying behind the scenes.
- It was like harboring a venomous snake, never knowing when it would strike.
- With the evidence laid bare, Yvette had no way to deny it. Her eyes reddened as she dropped to her knees.
- Choking on her words, she said, "Uncle Kelvin, I'm sorry. I was worried about Zoey. I knew she didn't like Jonathan, so I gave her suggestions... I know my methods were wrong, but Zoey is my sister. I only wanted her to be happy, even if all the consequences fell on me."
- She was clever, realizing that any defense would be futile now, so she played the role of the good sister.
- "Is that so? Everything you did was for my sake?" Zoey scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
- "Dad, you explicitly told me you didn't want me to be with Zeke. Yet Yvette constantly brought him up in front of me and even tried to create conflicts between you, Marcus, and me!"
- The more Zoey spoke, the deeper her hatred grew, memories of her past life flooding back, making her voice tremble with emotion.
- Her pale fingers tapped on the keyboard, bringing up another batch of chat logs, along with some voice recordings.
- Most were about Zeke.
- Whenever Zoey lost interest in Zeke, Yvette would deliberately mention him, creating opportunities for them to be alone together.
- There were also numerous conversations about Kelvin and Marcus.
- Yvette had been sowing discord, speaking ill of Kelvin and Marcus behind their backs, and exacerbating any conflicts between Zoey and her family, causing their relationships to deteriorate.
- Initially, Kelvin might have reluctantly tolerated Yvette, but now, he couldn't stand her at all.
