Chapter 6 We Cannot Accommodate You

  • Even if someone was somewhat foolish, that was tolerable; what was most dreaded was excessive cunning. What Kelvin found most intolerable was Yvette's attempt to undermine his relationship with Zoey.
  • Yvette's complexion turned ashen, akin to paper. With the full exposure of chat logs and call records, she realized that her words now held little sway.
  • She had overstepped Kelvin's limits.
  • Kelvin felt a mix of anguish and resolve. "Yvette, I brought you into the Saldana Family when you were merely ten years old. In nearly a decade, I've never mistreated you. But your actions have instilled fear in me. Our family cannot accommodate you any longer."
  • "Uncle Kelvin, I know I was wrong!" Yvette wept bitterly, pleading with Kelvin in despair, "Please don't cast me away. With my parents gone, you're my only family left. If even you reject me, I'll have no one. Please, don't cast me aside!"
  • Despite his reservations, she remained his brother's only kin. Kelvin was somewhat swayed.
  • At that moment, Marcus spoke deliberately, "Dad, I have a place at Averview Residence. Though modest, it suffices for Yvette to live alone. She needs to toughen up."
  • Zoey silently applauded Marcus, reveling inwardly.
  • Disregarding Yvette's pained gaze, Marcus met Zoey's eyes, a faint curl of his lips betraying indulgence in his amber gaze.
  • He harbored no fondness for Yvette; having immersed himself in the business world for years, he discerned her lack of purity. Yet, Zoey's fondness compelled him to retain her within the Saldana Family.
  • Rare was the occasion Zoey displayed insight; naturally, he had to assist.
  • Kelvin's voice resonated deeply. "Yvette, it's time to move out and develop your resilience."
  • "Cyndy! Get rid of all her stuff right now!" Zoey urged eagerly, her eyebrows lifting with excitement, her demeanor animated.
  • "Go back to your room and reflect on your actions," Kelvin instructed Zoey sternly, while Marcus looked at her affectionately.
  • Yvette clenched her teeth tightly, consumed by envy. Why is it that regardless of Zoey's actions, they readily forgive her? Why is my situation so different? Over the years, I've served them like a mere servant, yet they've discarded me like trash.
  • Upon seeing Cyndy about to return to tidy up her things, her face paled with anger, tears streaming down as she covered her face and dashed out.
  • Kelvin furrowed his brow. He remained uneasy about Yvette, prompting him to send someone to follow her closely.
  • Only Kelvin, Marcus, and Zoey remained in the room, the atmosphere inexplicably becoming awkward.
  • Zoey took a deep breath and knelt directly in front of Kelvin.
  • Caught off guard, Kelvin was startled.
  • "Dad, it was all my fault. I was too naive and trusted others too easily. Regarding the Holmes Family, I'll clarify everything. From now on, I won't stir up trouble anymore. I'll willingly fulfill the engagement with Jonathan."
  • The tragic scenes of her family's demise from her past haunted Zoey's thoughts relentlessly, causing her to choke up multiple times.
  • Kelvin was again shocked and puzzled by Zoey's profound change.
  • But above all, he felt relief and deep emotion.
  • It was as if his once obedient daughter had returned.
  • With a large hand on her shoulder, Kelvin gently patted it, his hoarse voice trembling slightly. "Good girl."
  • Looking up, Zoey noticed Kelvin's slightly bowed head, his striking white hair standing out.
  • In her heart, Zoey silently vowed to protect her loved ones in this lifetime.
  • She swore to ensure that the tragic endings of the past would never happen again!
