Chapter 15 Forcefully Evicted

  • I simply nodded at Calvin in response. Since he had helped me out a lot, this was a chance for me to return the favor.
  • While it seemed as though I was giving him a task, it was actually an opportunity for him to treat Brynley and obtain Bruce's gratitude.
  • To have Bruce on one's side was a luxury that not many could afford.
  • Bruce nodded without any hesitation. “All right. We'll go with your arrangement, Mr. Larson. Professor Harrison, it seems I will have to trouble you with synthesizing this medication!”
  • “Don't mention it, Mr. Neal! I'm just doing my job!” Calvin replied with a wave.
  • After bidding Bruce farewell, I headed back to Spencer's Pharmacy.
  • Sabine's vitals had returned to normal, so I decided to bring her home. It wouldn't do her any good to have her stay in the pharmacy for too long.
  • Calvin followed me along the way and tried to get me to stay, but I declined his request firmly. Even so, Calvin insisted on sending me home.
  • The place I lived was located on a busy street in Glenport.
  • It was famously known for housing poorer or working-class individuals.
  • Although I had married into the Xenos family, Sabine was not allowed to stay in the Xenos residence. As such, I had no choice but to rent her a place here in Glenport, where I spent most of my time staying with her.
  • Calvin looked like he had something to say when he saw the dirty environment outside.
  • Of course, I knew what he was thinking. Why would a person of my capabilities live in a place like this?
  • Naturally, I wasn't about to tell him that I was just an ordinary guy three days ago with no medical knowledge whatsoever.
  • It didn't take long for us to arrive outside the house I rented.
  • Before entering the house, I saw that my clothes had been tossed out and lay scattered all over the ground.
  • I quickly got out of the car and walked up to the house, only to see Karen walking out the front door.
  • Karen was infamous in these parts for her foul mouth and extreme greed. I often suffered her wrath while I was staying here back then.
  • Karen had one hand on her hip as she jabbed a finger at me and said, “You came home just in time, Marcel! I'm taking that unit back. I've already moved your stuff out, so pack your things and get lost!”
  • “But why? I paid for the rent!” I protested angrily.
  • “So what? You know your sister's condition! How will I rent this unit out if she ends up dying in there?” Karen retorted loudly.
  • Enraged, I snapped back at her, “Even so, you can't just kick us out without any warnings! I paid for the rent, so you should at least inform us beforehand and give us some time to find a new place!”
  • “This is my house, so I can do whatever I want with it! What are you going to do about it, huh? You're nothing but a live-in-son-in-law! Who are you to take that tone with me?” Karen yelled at me angrily.
  • “You...”
  • “What? Get lost right now, or I will have my husband break your legs!” Karen continued.
  • That was when Calvin stepped forward and asked, “Whose legs are you going to break?”
  • Karen eased up on her tone a little when she saw Calvin. “What's it to you?”
  • “Mr. Larson here is a friend of mine, so his business is as good as mine. Now, tell me, whose legs are you going to break?” Calvin said coldly.
  • As Calvin was from the upper class in society, Karen found herself panicking a little when she felt the powerful aura that he exuded.
  • Even so, Karen tried her best to remain calm as she argued, “What? This is my house, so I can choose to kick him out whenever I feel like it! What are you two going to do about it, huh? Force me to rent it to him?”
  • “Oh, don't worry! Mr. Larson won't be staying here anymore!” Calvin then turned toward me and said, “I have a mansion just next to Glenport River. It has a beautiful view of the river. If you don't mind, how about staying there for the time being?”
  • Karen burst out laughing when she heard that. “A mansion with a view of Glenport River? Do you even have any idea how much that would cost? It costs at least thirty million! Do you even have any idea how much money that is?”
  • Calvin ignored Karen completely and kept his gaze fixated on me while waiting for my response.
  • I knew Calvin was trying to get close to me and thank me for helping him out with Bruce earlier.
  • Since I was short on cash and could really use a place to stay, I decided not to decline this offer of his.
  • I didn't ask Bruce for money because I needed his help with far more important tasks.
  • While Bruce was indeed very wealthy, his true value lay in his influence.
  • “Thank you very much, Professor Harrison!”
  • Feeling overjoyed, Calvin said, “Oh, it is my honor to have you stay over at my humble abode, Mr. Larson! Devin, help Mr. Larson pack his belongings into the car!”
  • He then paused for a few seconds before continuing, “Also, have someone take care of this matter. Mr. Larson was forcefully evicted from this premise before the end of his rent duration, which constitutes a breach of his contract. Have the legal department pursue this matter and seek to obtain the greatest penalty for it!”
  • The driver, Devin, replied with a nod, “Understood, Professor Harrison!”
  • Karen was frozen in shock when she heard that. I'll be done for if this becomes a court case!
  • “I was just joking, mister! You can have this unit back, Marcel!”
  • Despite Karen's pleas, not a single person entertained her.
  • Calvin personally helped me pack my belongings into the car. We then drove off while Karen slumped weakly to the ground.
