Chapter 8 Yoel Cox

  • Helen was halfway into the Honda Accord when she suddenly saw me opening the door of the Maybach. She froze on the spot.
  • Jason and Michael also widened their eyes in astonishment.
  • I chuckled inwardly, thinking they could never have guessed that the Maybach, worth no less than five million, was the car I borrowed.
  • The atmosphere grew awkward for a moment.
  • I sat in the driver's seat and rolled down the car window. “It's getting late. Let's hurry up.”
  • Only then did Helen snap back to reality. She exchanged glances with Jason, and they immediately stepped out of the Honda Accord.
  • Michael stood stupefied in his spot, gaping and taking a long while to regain his senses.
  • I took in their reactions and sneered in my heart.
  • Didn't they say picking Bethany up in a Honda Accord would be impressive?
  • Compared to a Maybach, that was like a world of difference!
  • Helen sat in the car, looking curiously at everything inside. “Darling, you mentioned this car is more expensive than Dad's. How much more expensive is it?”
  • After a long silence, Jason finally spoke. “Marcel, where did you get this car?”
  • Helen swiftly turned to look at me. They knew my situation very well. Any person I was acquainted with who owned a cheap car could already be considered accomplished, so from whom could I have possibly borrowed such a luxury vehicle?
  • “I borrowed it from a friend,” I replied.
  • “Who's your friend? What's his name?” Jason hastily probed further.
  • “You don't know him,” I casually answered.
  • Jason asked a lot more questions afterward, but I just brushed them off.
  • I was reluctant to elaborate. If they knew I'm acquainted with Calvin, they might command me to beg Calvin to bring business to the Xenos family.
  • Sensing how I remained tight-lipped, Jason seemed to guess something and stopped asking further.
  • After a long while, Jason uttered indifferently, “Marcel, one must be upright and honest. I can't control who you make friends with, but don't drag our family into any mess!”
  • With that, he shut his eyes and fell silent.
  • Helen, vaguely understanding what Jason was implying, didn't mince her words and asked straightforwardly, “Marcel, this friend of yours, he isn't involved in any dirty business, is he?”
  • After hearing what they said, I fathomed that they had misunderstood something.
  • Still, I didn't respond and just let them assume.
  • At that point, I noticed Helen gazing at me with an even more disdainful look than before.
  • Upon arriving at the airport, we waited at the exit for a while. Then, we saw a group of people coming out.
  • Among them, one woman was particularly eye-catching.
  • She was dressed in a white blouse, black business suit, and black skirt. Her skin was fair, and she had a stunning figure. Her get-up resembled that of a typical urban white-collar worker.
  • Although her sunglasses concealed half her countenance, the exposed half was still so exquisite that the sight of it could invoke jealousy in any woman who saw her.
  • She was my wife, Bethany Xenos, who was once known as the most beautiful woman in Glenport.
  • However, a well-groomed young man with slicked-back hair was striding alongside her.
  • His Armani suit and the Patek Philippe watch on his wrist clearly indicated he was a wealthy man.
  • I had seen that young man before. His name was Yoel Cox, and he was the heir of Glenport's Cox family.
  • He had pursued Bethany for a long time in the past and repeatedly declared to the public he would win her over.
  • I didn't expect them to be on the same flight back. The sight of them walking together stung my heart.
  • At that moment, Jason and Helen had already stepped forward to greet them.
  • “Oh my, Mr. Cox. Thank you for going through the trouble of caring for Bethany,” Helen said with a fawning smile.
  • She had mentioned to my face more than once that if Yoel could marry Bethany, their family would definitely rise again.
  • Yoel chuckled. “Please don't mention it, Ms. Fanning. I was just doing what I should!”
  • I stood to the side and listened to their conversation. The next second, my heart lurched.
  • His voice sounded so familiar. Wasn't he the guy who answered Bethany's phone last night?
  • At that moment, my heart sank.
  • Did Bethany stay in the same room with this Yoel last night?
