Chapter 12 Half Of Everything I Own

  • “Mr. Larson, that divine healer is known as Fabian Xenakis. He's a member of the Xenakis family who ranks among the top ten families, and he ranks first in terms of medical skills in Glenport!”
  • Then, Devin added in a whisper, “Professor Harrison said that he might be coveting the formula in your hands, which is why he's accusing us of stealing his medicine. Do be careful of him later!”
  • A frown marred my countenance. He's even eyeing my medicine? What a despicable man!
  • After saying all that, Devin led me to Bruce's residence.
  • Bruce lived in a gigantic manor spanning over a hundred acres with precious plants everywhere.
  • The interior resembled a palace as it was ornately decorated.
  • In a room on the second floor, I spotted a group of people. Calvin was among them.
  • A pale middle-aged man stood beside Calvin, and he was none other than Spencer.
  • On the opposite side sat a burly and imposing middle-aged man. His hair was slightly gray, and his sharp eyebrows extended to his temples. He appeared stately and formidable.
  • Without needing an introduction, I knew that he was the King of Glenport, Bruce Neal.
  • As soon as Calvin caught sight of me, delight showed on his face. “Mr. Larson... you... You're here!”
  • Bruce was also scrutinizing me. Perhaps my age and appearance did not match his perception of a divine healer, for he frowned. “He's the divine healer you were speaking of?”
  • “Yes!” Calvin nodded fervently.
  • Right then, a gray-bearded elderly man beside Bruce abruptly burst into laughter. “Haha, any Tom, Dick, and Harry is claiming to be a divine healer nowadays! Calvin, we're considered colleagues, so you should understand this principle—there's no shortcut in the medical field. Anyone with incredible medical skills needs time to accumulate experience. Yet, you found a snot-nosed kid here to proclaim himself as a divine healer? Do you really think that Mr. Neal has been too lenient with you, allowing you to fool him indiscriminately?”
  • That man was none other than Fabian Xenakis, who was dubbed the Top Divine Healer in Glenport.
  • Bruce's expression was icy, making it clear that he agreed with the man.
  • “If age could determine one's medical skills, wouldn't a dinosaur be far superior to you?” I drawled.
  • “What did you just say?” Fabian went ballistic.
  • “I said a creature like you has lived in vain all these years,” I asserted coldly.
  • “How dare you! You're merely a charlatan, yet you dare act recklessly here! Men, drag him out!” Fabian roared.
  • “Are you going to save Ms. Neal if you drag me out?” I questioned.
  • “I...” Fabian was promptly at a loss for words.
  • “So, you can save my daughter?” Bruce demanded in a deep voice.
  • “Saving her is a piece of cake.” Throwing the man a look, I continued frostily, “The most crucial thing is to treat her underlying ailment. That's a bit trickier.”
  • “What... What are you saying?” Bruce's expression changed at once, shock manifesting on his face.
  • “You know what I'm saying. Ms. Neal probably weighed less than three pounds when she was born. That aside, her mother died while giving birth to her,” I elaborated.
  • Hearing that, Fabian scoffed, “What the h*ll are you talking about? Hey, are you really that ignorant, kid? Would a woman die in childbirth when the baby only weighed three pounds? Did you mistake it for thirty pounds—”
  • Calvin looked terrified, making it evident that he found that impossible as well.
  • “Shut up!” Bruce abruptly bellowed, making Fabian jump in fright.
  • “He's clearly trying to dupe you, Mr. Neal! He didn't even bother taking a look at Ms. Neal before saying she has an underlying ailment. That's impossible.” Fabian then pinned a chilly gaze on me. “Kid, do you think acting sagacious translates to having superb medical skills? Hahaha. Are all charlatans now so unprofessional?”
  • Shooting the man an icy glance, Bruce admitted through gritted teeth, “Mr. Larson was right. My daughter was only two point seven pounds when she was born. That aside, her mother indeed died in childbirth!”
  • “What?” Both Fabian and Calvin exclaimed in unison.
  • “How could that be?” Fabian wondered.
  • Bruce clenched his jaw before explaining, “My wife suffered from a blood disease and lacked platelets in her blood. Once she incurred a wound, she'd lose a lot of blood because it wouldn't coagulate. Back when she was giving birth, she bled heavily and died.”
  • Fabian and Calvin exchanged a glance, both shocked to the core.
  • I was not surprised by their reactions since mortals could never comprehend divinity's knowledge.
  • Bruce regarded me as though he was beholding his savior. In a quivering voice, he asked, “Y-You can really save my daughter?”
  • “As I said, it isn't difficult to save her. Her underlying ailment is a bit trickier, but it isn't a problem either,” I answered calmly.
  • Inhaling deeply, Bruce bowed to me all of a sudden. “If you can save my daughter, Sir, I'll give you half of everything I own!”
  • “What?”
  • Everyone around us gasped in surprise.
  • Even I could not help but take a second look at him.
  • He's Bruce Neal, said to own half of the properties in Glenport, Norham. And he wants to give half his assets to me? How generous!
  • I chuckled coldly. “Haha, I don't need all that. But seeing that you love your daughter to such an extent, I'll lend you a hand!”
  • Bruce was inexorably stunned, appearing not to have expected me to turn down such a fortune.
  • “What a hypocrite! Carry on acting! If you fail to save Ms. Neal today, give my family's hereditary medicine back to me, including its formula!” Fabian's face was contorted with envy.
