Chapter 8 Premeditated Incident

  • After dinner, Benjamin once again retreated to the forest behind the mansion to meditate. The spiritual energy from hundreds of meters around him started to converge toward him. His chest rose and fell rhythmically, reminiscent of a bellows, as two streams of white spiritual energy fluctuated in his nostrils.
  • At that time, inside the banquet hall of Bernydius Club, women, who were envious of Serena's graceful figure and stunning beauty, gathered together to make sarcastic remarks.
  • “Hey, that's Serena! She's as foxy as they come!”
  • “Heh... She's quite the haughty one. Didn't you see how many well-off young men just greeted her? And she didn't even crack a smile!”
  • “What's the use of being so arrogant? She thought she had achieved success by marrying someone from the Zabel family, yet all she found was a good-for-nothing man.”
  • Their gazes all fell on Serena, who was not far away, elegantly dressed in a black evening gown.
  • Serena held her wine glass, her tall, captivating figure accentuated by a pair of black, tassel high heels. Her fair, delicate hand cradled a glass of red wine, a sight of unparalleled and independent elegance.
  • “Ms. Yates, Mr. Yandell has arrived.” She was standing next to a man dressed in a business suit, who was none other than the manager, Winston.
  • As they were speaking, a man dressed in a pristine Armani suit, exuding an air of distinguished charm, approached them. He greeted Serena with a smile, “Ms. Yates, it's been a while. I see you are still as captivating as ever.”
  • Serena's lips curled into a somewhat strained smile. “And you're young, wealthy and have an elegant charm, Mr. Yandell.”
  • “Have you given any thought to the proposal I made last time, Ms. Yates?” Theodore asked with a smile.
  • Serena replied indifferently, “Mr. Yandell, we can continue our conversation if you want to discuss other matters. However, if you're thinking about acquiring my company, I won't agree. This company was painstakingly built from the ground up by my mother. I could never sell it.”
  • Theodore chuckled. “Ms. Yates, we are both businessmen and we are in a market economy. A good businessman doesn't mix emotions with business. I hope you'll seriously consider this.” As he spoke, a shadow of cunning flashed in his eyes.
  • “I may not be a competent businesswoman, but I must strive to be a good daughter,” Serena said in a cool voice.
  • With a cold chuckle, Theodore muttered to himself, “Such an ignorant woman. Since she doesn't know what's good for her, she can't blame me for what's coming her way.”
  • After the banquet had ended, Serena was driving home alone in her Audi A6L.
  • Just as she exited the parking lot, a sudden jolt of shock hit her when a red sedan abruptly hurtled toward her from the side.
  • Serena closed her eyes in fright. Then she heard a loud bang as the car shook violently. Suddenly, a flash of white light streaked across her body, and the shards of broken glass that were about to hit her were deflected away.
  • The car that hit hers swiftly turned around and immediately sped off.
  • Serena's head felt heavy and dizzy, and her vision blurred with overlapping images. It was as if she had briefly seen a flash of white light emanating from her handbag. Although she had changed her clothes today, she had tossed the safety sigil that Benjamin had given her into her handbag.
  • Before she had time to think further, a wave of dizziness washed over her and she collapsed onto the steering wheel.
  • The following day, a gentle breeze billowed the white curtains, while the brilliant sunlight spilled into the immaculate room.
  • Struggling, Serena managed to lift her heavy eyelids, only to find a figure, both familiar and unfamiliar, seated at her bedside. She furrowed her brows, feeling a pang of pain in her head. “W-What are you doing here?” she asked.
  • “I heard about your car accident yesterday. Someone took you to the hospital, I had Wendy go home to prepare some mushroom soup for you while I stayed here to keep you company.”
  • The person standing before her was none other than her husband, Benjamin.
  • Serena furrowed her brows, only now realizing that she was lying in a hospital bed. She glanced at Benjamin and asked, “You've been here all night? Haven't you slept?”
  • “The doctor said you've had a fright, and advised you to rest well,” Benjamin stated.
  • Serena, with her slender hand supporting her throbbing head, attempted to sit up as she said, “There's a crucial meeting at the office. I absolutely must attend.”
  • “What meeting? I can attend it for you. The doctor said you need to rest properly,” Benjamin replied as he stood up and headed out before she could even decline.
  • Serena wanted to say something more, but Benjamin had already left the hospital ward.
  • Benjamin understood Serena's personality. He knew she wouldn't want him to go to the company. So, he had no choice but to leave first, leaving Serena with no other options.
  • He hailed a taxi and said, “Take me to Grace Cosmetics.”
  • Last night, he discovered that the place where Serena had her accident was on the pedestrian walkway, even before she reached the main road. A car had suddenly sped toward her in the wrong direction. It didn't seem like a typical hit-and-run incident, though. Instead, it seemed as if it had been premeditated.
  • Throughout the journey, Benjamin was deep in thought about Serena's car accident. He was certain that something was amiss. Regardless of who wanted to harm those around him, they would have to pay the price.
  • Grace Cosmetics wasn't the most financially robust corporation in Junbert, but it was certainly the most renowned. This fame was largely due to the abundance of beautiful women working there, particularly the young and attractive female CEO, Serena. She was the object of admiration for all the young talents and the pride of Junbert.
