Chapter 9 The Meeting Representative

  • After getting out of the car, the moment Benjamin walked to the company's entrance, he spotted a charming figure, who was dressed in a tight black skirt, black stockings, and high heels — the epitome of a professional office worker. It was none other than Melissa Grant, Serena's assistant.
  • “M-Mr. Zabel, why are you here? Where is Ms. Yates?” Upon recognizing Benjamin, Melissa's face was filled with anxiety.
  • “Rena ran into some issues, so she asked me to step in for her at the meeting.”
  • “You're here to represent Ms. Yates in the meeting?” Melissa pushed up the red glasses resting on the bridge of her nose, displaying a surprised expression. Clearly, she too knew what kind of person Benjamin was. Would Ms. Yates really let him conduct a meeting?
  • “What's the matter? Don't trust me?” Benjamin chuckled. “Let's go. Take me to the conference room.”
  • Melissa was mumbling something under her breath the whole way as she led him into the conference room. It was his first time visiting the company. Once everyone realized he was none other than Benjamin, Serena's so-called good-for-nothing husband, they all began to regard him with peculiar looks.
  • In the past, Benjamin would have surely blushed to the roots of his hair, wishing he could escape from this place. However, after three hundred cycles of immortal cultivation, his spiritual resolve was as steady as a mountain. He had weathered storms and experienced life and death-transformations. Naturally, his character had undergone extreme changes.
  • “So this is Ms. Yates' husband? He doesn't seem to be much to look at. Tsk tsk tsk, poor Ms. Yates.”
  • “I heard he often used Ms. Yates' money to go out and indulge in pleasures, and Ms. Yates even had to bail him out several times.”
  • “Our Ms. Yates is a woman of stunning beauty and strength. How did she end up marrying such a loser?”
  • Pushing open the door to the conference room, a dozen individuals came into view in the brightly lit space. The majority were women, and everyone was dressed in professional attire. Making his way to the head of the table, Benjamin took a seat and began, “Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Benjamin Zabel, Rena's husband. Ms. Yates isn't feeling well today, so I'll be standing in for her in this meeting.”
  • Upon hearing his words, many people instantly furrowed their brows.
  • “Why didn't we get any prior notice about Ms. Yates feeling unwell?”
  • “Is he really that extraordinary? Isn't he just a freeloading pretty boy?”
  • “Without Ms. Yates here, you're just a high school student. What do you know about running a meeting? All you know is how to drink and woo girls, right?”
  • One by one, people looked at Benjamin with frosty glares and sarcasm, not taking him seriously. Serena's life was no secret within the company. Serena cared little for Benjamin, the powerless black sheep of the Zabel family. Serena's attitude toward him greatly influenced everyone else's, and no one regarded him with much respect.
  • Melissa stood next to Benjamin, her brows furrowing slightly. No matter what, Benjamin was still Ms. Yates' husband. The audacity of the company's employees to speak in such a manner right in front of Benjamin was beyond her comprehension.
  • Benjamin silently observed them, his face unreadable. He appeared neither sad nor angry, but rather, indifferent to it all.
  • Seated to the left, Winston adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. A shadow of contempt flickered behind his lenses as he said, “Benjamin, you don't know the first thing about the company's affairs. How could you possibly represent Ms. Yates at this meeting?”
  • He continued, “To be honest, I've worked for Ms. Yates for so many years, and if you stay with her, you're only going to hold her back. You two are simply not from the same world. You get what I'm saying, right?”
  • With a sharp gaze, Benjamin looked at Winston and said, “Mr. Zachs, this is a personal matter between Rena and me. Aren't you overstepping your bounds?”
  • “I'm merely considering Ms. Yates' best interests. You need to understand your own standing. There's no place for you in the illustrious Zabel family of Jexburgh. What makes you think you're worthy of Ms. Yates?” Winston replied coldly.
  • “I don't need to rely on anyone,” said Benjamin calmly. His voice, however, was laced with a hint of immense confidence. “I can soar above all by myself, and with my own strength, I can turn Rena into a princess who commands the attention of thousands.”
  • But it seemed as if everyone had heard a hilarious joke. You, Benjamin, boasting about your own abilities? You, a mere student without a family relying solely on your own efforts. How much can you achieve in your lifetime? Perhaps after thirty years of hard work, you might only reach the starting line of others. And yet you still talk about soaring above the world.
  • “You're so ignorant. That's simply rubbish. I really don't know where you get the audacity to make such grandiose claims,” Winston said, his eyes filled with disdain as he scoffed coldly.
  • Even Melissa, standing next to Benjamin, couldn't help but furrow her beautiful eyebrows, feeling that Benjamin was boasting. She pitied Ms. Yates for marrying him.
  • Just then, a wave of commotion could be heard from outside.
  • “Sir, our company is currently in a meeting, you can't go in.”
  • “Benjamin Zabel is in there, isn't he? Don't block the way, or I might just kill you.”
  • Following that, the conference room door was pushed open. A group of men, dressed in black from head to toe, stood at the entrance, their gazes sharp and predatory. Beside them, the security team leader's face was awkwardly tense, as large beads of sweat dripped from his forehead.
  • “Which of you is Benjamin Zabel?” The man leading the group asked sharply. He was a middle-aged man with a gold chain around his neck, and the word 'silver' was tattooed on his neck.
  • The conference room was filled with a mutual exchange of puzzled glances. Someone asked quietly and fearfully, “That's Sterling Tigris, Mr. Tristan's right-hand man. What's he doing at our company?”
  • “I heard Silver's younger brother, Trey, got a beating from Benjamin. He's probably here to settle the score.”
