Chapter 12 Final Chance
- In no time, the sizzling oil was emanating from the roast. After sprinkling some secret seasoning, they began to devour it in large bites.
- Upon arriving in this unfamiliar world, what satisfied Asher the most was the omnipresent food.
- It was incomparably more delicious than anything on Earth.
- The meat was succulent and tender, melting instantly in the mouth.
- Even without any added seasoning, it was incredibly delicious.
- The first time he ate it, Asher almost swallowed the bones along with the meat.
- From then on, he fell in love with barbecuing under the large tree at the mountain top.
- He would have some barbecue here almost every day.
- Missing even one meal would bring him great discomfort.
- At that time, Asher was the only one on Solitude Peak. He was answerable to no one, he could do as he pleased. After a hearty meal, he would take a nap, or climb a tree to enjoy the view. His days were incredibly carefree and tranquil.
- Over the years, he had sampled everything that flew in the sky, ran on the ground, and swam in the water.
- He had also gradually mastered his barbecue skills.
- If this were on Earth, running a barbecue joint would definitely be a hit.
- As Asher was savoring his meal, a figure emerged in the sky, riding on a flying sword.
- She watched Asher, who was feasting heartily, her stunningly beautiful face devoid of any expression, even her eyes remained utterly unflinching.
- It was Jennifer, one of Nieva's direct disciple.
- Jennifer held the sixth rank among all the direct disciples of the Divine Sword Sect, essentially making her Asher's sixth junior.
- The two were well-known within the sect, but for entirely different reasons.
- One was celebrated as a prodigious disciple, while the other was regarded as the good-for-nothing senior.
- Up until now, among the current generation of the Divine Sword Sect, only four had taken in direct disciples.
- They were Maverick, wielder of the Honor Sword; Timothy, wielder of the Origin Sword; Jayden, master of the Thunderstorm Sword; and Nieva, master of the Ice Soul Sword.
- The other three hadn't yet found suitable successors.
- “Asher,” Jennifer said in a cold voice, “my master wants to see you. She has something to discuss with you.”
- She didn't address him as senior disciple, instead, she called him by his first name.
- From Jennifer's perspective, aside from starting earlier, Asher was totally unworthy of being the senior disciple of the sect.
- It wasn't just her.
- Other disciples of the Divine Sword Sect also had the same thoughts.
- Jennifer couldn't say she despised Asher, but she certainly didn't harbor any fondness for him either.
- After all, as time passed, they were destined not to be people from the same world.
- With Asher's talent, he was bound to blend into the crowd, while she was destined to become an executive of the Divine Sword Sect.
- “Ms. Frost is looking for me? Great! I'll go over as soon as I finish eating. Would you like to come down and try some, Jennifer? The meat I've roasted myself isn't something just anyone gets to taste, consider yourself lucky today.”
- Asher looked up at Jennifer, who was hovering in the sky with her flying sword technique, and extended an invitation with a smile.
- In reality, he had noticed her arrival quite a while ago, he just hadn't acknowledged it.
- Moreover, Asher had long grown accustomed to Jennifer's habit of addressing him by his full name.
- It was only natural that she, a prodigy, wouldn't be interested in someone like him, the senior disciple who was known for his laid-back and nonchalant attitude.
- “No need! Come with me right now! master is waiting for you.” Jennifer responded, her face devoid of any expression.
- “All right then!”
- Asher tossed aside the bone he was holding and dusted off his hands. Without a second thought, he began wiping them on his clothes, clearly a habit he had developed over time.
- His action caused Jennifer, who was hovering midair on her sword, to slightly furrow her brow.
- She hadn't expected the senior disciple of the Divine Sword Sect to be such a disheveled individual.
- After wiping his hands clean, Asher flew to Jennifer's side on his sword.
- “Jennifer, let's get going!”
- Jennifer led Asher to the foot of Maiden Peak, where they disembarked and proceeded to ascend on foot.
- The Divine Sword Sect was composed of sixteen peaks. Apart from Solitude Peak, which was unmanaged and could be directly ascended by flight, the rest could only be reached by foot. This was an established rule, any deviation was considered disrespectful to the respective peak.
- Under the curious gazes of numerous disciples from Maiden Peak, the two of them navigated their way and soon met up with the waiting Nieva.
- “Master,” Jennifer respectfully addressed Nieva, “Asher has been brought here. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave now.”
- “Jennifer, stay here for now!”
- “Yes, Master!”
- “Greetings, Ms. Frost.” Asher took a step forward, his hands clasped together in a fist as he bowed in respect.
- “There's no need for formalities, Asher,” Nieva said. “I called you here today because I wanted to ask for your opinion on a matter.”
- “Do tell, Ms. Frost!”
- “In less than half a month, the Spectral Abyss Secret Realm will open. Not only does it contain Red Spider Lilies that Maverick needs, but it also holds many natural treasures that can alter one's fate. The sect will send a group of people in, are you willing to venture in? Of course, it's quite dangerous. One misstep and you might be trapped there forever. If you're unwilling, I won't force you.”
- After finishing her statement, Nieva quietly waited for Asher's response.
- She had also made this decision after much consideration.
- Even if Maverick didn't die this time, he would be crippled.
- Before long, everyone would be taking action against Solitude Peak.
- Even Timothy couldn't guarantee protection.
- Given Asher's talent at the time, it was nearly impossible for him to break the stalemate.
- The only option was to venture into the Spectral Abyss Secret Realm and give it a shot. This was their final chance.
