Chapter 2 The Background Of Asher
- A sense of foreboding filled Asher's heart when he saw it.
- The woman crying was his junior, Seraphina Stone, who also happened to be Maverick's only daughter.
- Maverick's wife had been gone for many years, so there was only one possibility Seraphina was weeping.
- Is the person inside the coffin... Is Master dead? Asher was instantly frozen on the spot, and his mind went blank. He even forgot to breathe.
- It wasn't until he could no longer bear it that he finally exhaled slowly, his thoughts abruptly reverting back to over two decades ago.
- Back then, he was just an infant, swaddled in cloth, abandoned in the middle of nowhere.
- Asher had memories from his infancy because he was not originally from that world. His adult soul resided within an infant's body.
- Asher hailed from Earth, being the youngest scientist there. From an early age, he had displayed exceptional talent, his intelligence surpassing even that of Einstein by a significant measure.
- His subjects of study were all the most advanced in the world.
- Unfortunately, Asher was too young. As the saying went, youth was often associated with recklessness. Moreover, he gained fame at a young age and didn't understand the importance of keeping a low profile.
- When he completed his technological research thirty years ahead of the world, he couldn't wait to share it with the public. He yearned to be recognized as a world-renowned figure, if only just once.
- Consequently, several powerful nations had set their sights on him, offering extremely generous terms in the hope that Asher would sell his technology to them.
- As a patriotic and ambitious young man, Asher naturally wouldn't hand over the fruits of his laborious research to another country. It was something he intended to dedicate to his own homeland.
- The outcome was predictable.
- As Asher was about to set foot on his homeland, the enemy nation resorted to the drastic measure of deploying a nuclear bomb. That turned Asher and the surrounding area of several kilometers into ashes.
- Asher was unaware of what transpired afterward. By the time he opened his eyes, he had found himself in the vast Nouvo Continent.
- Fortunately, the fruits of his scientific research had already been delivered back to his motherland via a different route. With the aid of those achievements, Corvaina was bound to rise rapidly, surpassing rival nations. Asher's life wasn't wasted.
- After experiencing death once, Asher truly began to mature. He felt that many things he had done in the past were incredibly naïve and foolish.
- Had he been more discreet back then, he would've avoided death.
- By the time he realized his mistakes, it was already too late. However, fate had granted Asher a second chance at life. He was determined to live it fully and vowed never to repeat such foolish actions.
- Upon being reborn into a new world, Asher encountered a rather serious issue.
- He was abandoned, left alone amidst the desolate hills and wild ridges.
- Being only a few months old, he simply couldn't survive on his own.
- Others who transmigrated always ended up as the favored sons of destiny, becoming royalty or nobility, or at the very least, members of wealthy households. Yet, when it came to him, he ended up as an unwanted, abandoned child.
- Of course, those were not issues at all. With Asher's intelligence, he could live comfortably and confidently, whether on Earth or not.
- Yet he was merely a few months old baby at that time. Regardless of how sky-high his intelligence was, other than crying, he had no other means of survival.
- After a solid hour of intense crying and shouting, Asher was both exhausted and famished. His vision blurred, and he felt as if he was on the brink of starvation.
- Having been reincarnated only to find himself on the path to death, Asher was unsure whether to laugh or cry.
- He had no idea where he would go if he died again, but it was definitely not Earth because his body had already been vaporized by the nuclear attack.
- At that very moment, Asher's cries of distress attracted a wild beast. A pair of emotionless eyes fixated on his small frame, looking as if it could pounce at any moment.
- As Asher quietly awaited his impending demise, a figure descended from the sky, landing before him.
- It was Maverick, who was out searching for a spiritual herb to treat his own foundation.
- He glanced at Asher, who was on the verge of passing out on the ground.
- After a moment of contemplation, he finally vanquished the beast with a single stroke of his sword. He then lifted Asher into his arms and returned to Divine Sword Sect, where he took the latter in as a direct disciple.
- The disciples of Divine Sword Sect were classified into three categories. There were the outer sect disciples, inner sect disciples, and direct disciples.
- Direct disciples were extremely rare, inner sect disciples were slightly more common, and outer sect disciples were the most prevalent.
- Regardless of when they joined or their age, the disciples from the outer sect had to address those from the inner sect and the direct disciples as seniors.
- When the inner sect disciples encountered the direct disciples, it was the same.
- When Asher was five years old, Maverick came home covered in blood, cradling a little girl in his arms. That girl was Seraphina.
- As for Seraphina's mother, Asher had never met her.
- Maverick was not inclined to discuss the specifics of what happened that year either.
- Given that Asher was the earliest to be inducted as a direct disciple, it was only natural that he became the senior disciple.
- Although, he was unimportant.
- The disciples of Divine Sword Sect often secretly discussed amongst themselves that the disciple the crippled Maverick took in was useless as well.
- Truly, Asher was barely noticeable. He seldom left Solitude Peak and didn't even participate in the annual intrasect competition.
- The disciples of Divine Sword Sect knew they had a senior disciple, yet they never had the chance to meet him.
- As such, no one took Asher seriously as a senior disciple.
- Asher's eyes reddened as he recalled his life after Maverick took him in.
