Chapter 14 Meeting The Family
- Jett took Mylah to the amusement park after returning from the welfare home and spent a pleasant morning with her.
- The child's innocence and fun-loving nature were revealed for all to see. She got a turn on every ride and was eager to do more.
- "Daddy, let's play some more!" Mylah tugged at Jett's arm as she happily called out.
- He dotingly brushed the sweat off his daughter's face when he found her sweating profusely. "We had a long day, Mylah. Rest is important too. Why don't I take you to Mommy, Grandpa, and Grandma after this?"
- Mylah immediately fell silent and vigorously nodded in agreement. "Okay! I'll listen to Daddy. I want to see Mommy."
- "Oh? What a good girl. Give your Dad a hug!"
- She stood on her tip-toes and leaped into Jett's embrace like an energetic pixie.
- Back home, Kimberley had already prepared a table filled with dishes.
- She was more than happy to welcome another member to the family as it meant she rose in the ranks of seniority.
- During the meal, the three adults kept adding to Mylah's plate.
- It didn't take long for her plate to end up a base for building blocks as dishes were piled higher and higher until it resembled the Eiffel Tower.
- Mylah had never felt the warmth of home and now it was finally within her grasp in a tangible way.
- "Uncle, Daddy, Aunt, please stop. I don't know where to start."
- The group laughed.
- They took a short break after the meal.
- Kimberley called Jett into the room to question him as softly as she could.
- "Be honest, Jett. What have you been up to all these years? Why do you have all this money? I went to the bank to check the card you gave us. There's 50 million in there!"
- Jett chuckled, "Don't worry, Kimberley. It's clean. Use it as you please. Let me know if you need more."
- Shock was clear on her visage.
- He gave me 50 million on a whim and is telling me to let him know if I need more? How much do you even have?!
- She now had no reason to doubt him since he explained himself.
- She firmly believed his every word and had never once doubted him even with what happened back then. He was innocent.
- Concurrently.
- Chloe finally awoke with a much-relieved headache after a morning's rest.
- She rubbed her head to find that she still had the pocket watch in her hand.
- She had a vague impression that it was given to her when she was eighteen, but exactly who gave it to her did not come to mind.
- That was when Janet walked in with food.
- She immediately set it aside when she noticed her daughter had finally come to. "How are you feeling, Chloe? Does your head still hurt?"
- Janet's expression was amiable and caring.
- "I feel better, Mom!"
- "That's good to hear. You gave me a scare this morning! Come eat!" She helped her daughter up and brought over a tray of food.
- Chloe asked dazedly, "Tell me, Mom. Why do I have a photo of him in the pocket watch?"
- Janet was at a loss for words and seemed to plan to use a stopgap measure to stall for time. "How about this? Finish your food and get better and I'll tell you."
- "It's a deal!" Chloe didn't hesitate to wolf down her food in large mouthfuls.
- Janet couldn't help the smile that spread across her face. "There's no hurry, Chloe. No one's going to fight you for it!"
- It was exactly her abnormal behavior that had Janet anxious. Her daughter had always been obedient, sensible, and well-educated. It was only that one time that she rebelled.
- Jett Grayson, what have you done to Chloe? It's been six years. Why did you return?
- Chloe finished her food in minutes and scrambled to ask her mother before she could even swallow. Her eyes were lit up. "Will you tell me now, Mom?"
- Janet, however, had her go wash up first. She had no choice. What else was she supposed to have done?
- Chloe took her clothes and rushed into the bathroom.
- She typically took half an hour to get herself ready but had miraculously only taken a mere ten minutes today.
- Chloe picked up a bath towel to dry her wet hair and began to change her clothes when she got back to her room.
- She smiled as she admired herself in the mirror. How stunning!
- God was fair. There was no such thing as flawlessness.
- She had a scar beneath her navel roughly three inches wide that hadn't faded.
- She asked her mother and was told that it was a scar left over from a surgery back when she was eighteen.
- Chloe, however, had no memory of the incident at all.
- Janet went to the kitchen to do the dishes while her daughter was washing up.
- Just as she was doing the dishes, what she saw out the window had her shocked.
- The person she least wanted to see was here with a little girl in hand.
- Were they here for them?
- This is bad. The front gates were still open. She hurried over to lock the doors.
- Just after stepping out of the kitchen, she staggered back after running right into Alex.
- Janet yelped in her panic. "Get out of my way, old man. Lock the doors. Jett Grayson is here!"
- She kept her voice on the down low as her daughter was still around. Alex could barely hear her. "Who?!"
- Jett, meanwhile, held Mylah in his arms as he spoke earnestly to her, "This is going to be your first time meeting your grandparents and Mommy. Be polite and cordial."
- Mylah grinned like a Cheshire Cat. "Got it, Daddy. You repeated yourself five times on the way here. Are you nervous, Daddy?"
- "Maybe. Here we are!" Jett set the girl down on her feet.
- The two came to the door of the room just as Alex intended to close the door.
- "Dad!"
- Alex looked up to see that it was indeed Jett outside his door. He quickened his movements to close the door.
- That was when a crisp and friendly voice rang out.
- "Grandpa! I'm Mylah. Why won't you let us in?"
- Alex was startled. "What did you call me, dear? You've got the wrong person!"
- Mylah immediately took control of the conversation. "No. Daddy says my Grandpa's name is Alex White. Are you Mr. Alex White? If you are, you're my Grandpa!"
- Alex wasn't quite expecting the girl to be quite so eloquent and sharp-tongued. It made her seem so cute.
- He fixed his gaze intently on the child.
- It was as if he had seen Chloe's shadow in Mylah—innocent and lively, beautiful and fair.
- "Have you shut the door yet, old coot?" Janet walked over.
- "Mom!"
- "Grandma!" Mylah rushed straight in and went right for Janet, hanging onto the woman's thighs. "Grandma, I want a hug!"
- The sight puzzled Janet.
- "This is Mylah, me and Chloe's daughter." Jett showed himself in.
- "Daughter? Chloe's?"
- Janet knelt and studied Mylah.
- The more she scrutinized, the more she liked.
- She turned to look at Alex. "Do you think Mylah resembles Chloe back when she was a child, old coot?"
- "They could be twins!"
- The thought of Chloe's scar brought Janet an epiphany. That was something left behind after a cesarean section but why was the child not with her mother?
- She picked the child up into her arms before she even had time to think about it. "Such a good girl!"
- "I'm here to see Chloe!"
- The old couple liked Mylah so much that they forgot about not letting Jett in, and pointed to the room instead.
- Jett smiled knowingly. Children really were a last resort when dealing with the elderly.
- He opened the door.
- "Mom, why didn't you…knock on…the door?!" Chloe grumbled and turned around to find Jett.
- "It's me, Chloe!"
- "Ah! Pervert! Get out!" Chloe flung a pillow at him.
- He blocked it with his hand, resulting in the pillow falling on the dressing table and knocking over the medicine bottle.
- "Click!"
- It fell to the ground with a thud!
- Jett picked it up to give it a look.
- He transformed into a fuming beast with clenched fists and clacking teeth in an instant.
