Chapter 7
- Maleah's P.O.V.
- I can tell by the look on everyone's faces that they haven't heard Luna Elyse curse like this before - the only exceptions being her Mate, the former Beta and Gamma couple, and of course my Dad. I look at the younger males in the room, but I have no idea who is who. I turn to my Father.
- "Why didn't you tell me Alpha Max stepped down? I have no idea who those guys are, but something tells me that at least one of them is my Alpha?" I ask Dad. He tells me that the Alpha ceremony was during the fashion weeks in Gravta. "I told Diego not to inform you. We know how much time and effort you had put into it, and it wouldn't make a difference if you were here or not," Alpha Max responds.
- Before I can say anything, an Omega walks in to tell us that dinner is served. I follow Luna Elyse into their dining room. Alpha Max points me to the chair where I can sit, and before they sit down, my new Alphas, Beta and Gamma introduce themselves to me. Their Head Assassin introduces himself last.
- Fortune is front and center as I shake his hand - she seems very interested in him since he showed up at the house. With his looks, I believe most females would swoon over him.
- While the Omegas place the food and our plates in front of us, Alpha Dominic explains what my Mother did, and I hear Luna Elyse growl softly.
- "Mother showing up with Alpha Bradley is..." I don't get to say another word as Alpha Max's Lycan releases a mighty roar. It takes me a moment to see that his Beta and Gamma are holding onto him. Even Luna Elyse isn't able to calm him down, and she is his Mate.
- "We need to make him back down, Maleah," Fortune says. As I look at my Alphas, I realize they have trouble getting near him. "Alpha Max, I mean you no harm, but I need to do this," I say as I let my aura seep out. As I step closer, everyone else takes a step back. "Alpha Max, I need you and your Lycan to calm down. Don't force me and Fortune to release our full aura," I say calmly as I place a hand on his shoulder and keep my eyes locked with his.
- I can see his Lycan on the surface, but I can also see that his Lycan understands I can really hurt him if I have to. After a few more minutes, Alpha Max is able to regain control again. "Thank you, Maleah," he says as I take a step back. I know I have a lot of explaining to do.
- "As I was trying to explain, it was my aura that caused my Alphas to order me to dinner tonight. I know it states in my file that I am Wolfless, but Fortune and I didn't want my Mother to know I had a Lycan. She already hated me for some reason, and we had no intention of adding to it."
- "Alpha Max, you and your former leadership know what my Mother did when I was a child, and because of that, I never felt the need to shift when I turned sixteen. You know she left me to fend for myself with Omegas that would deliver three meals a day - and only if Dad was on an assignment. But if Dad was home, she tried to keep me away from him."
- "I don't know if Dad knows why, but my Mother hates Lycans and Assassins. Dad never said a wrong word about my Mother, but she never passed up an opportunity to badmouth him. I never understood why she kept living in the house and in this Pack. That is why I never told anyone that Fortune had shown up or that I had shifted for the first time."
- I explain all this as we eat our dinner, and I am surprised no one interrupts me the entire time.
- Everyone has finished their dinner by the time I'm done, and I wonder who will address the elephant in the room. The Omegas clear the table before other Omegas show up with our dessert.
- "Hello, Ariel," I say as she places my dessert in front of me. "Miss D'Angelo, you're back," she says as she places the other dessert in front of my Dad.
- "Yeah, I'm back for a few days to a week. How is your designing going?" I ask her. As she walks around getting everyone their desserts, she tells me what she's been up to. "Good to hear business is doing well," I say before she wishes me goodnight. I immediately dig into my dessert - one of the things I really miss when I'm not at home. For some reason, our Omegas are better at making desserts than any chef in a hotel.
- Just as the last Omega leaves the dining room with the remainder of the dishes, a Scout walks in. His eyes snap to mine, and I can tell he is mind-linking someone.
- "Maleah," Alpha Dillon calls out my name, and I turn my eyes toward him. "What is being said here doesn't leave this room. Is that clear?" he says.
- "Of course, Alpha Dillon," I answer, knowing I will never repeat anything about our Pack business.
- "Alphas, it has been confirmed that John Clarkson is after Diego. The only problem is that we don't have any clue how he plans on doing that," the Scout says. Fortune chuckles in my head as I shake my head.
- "Sorry, Alphas, but I doubt he will be doing anything to anyone ever again," I say. Dad asks me what I mean.
- "As you might know, I was away on business. During my trips I usually stay in a hotel - it's easier than owning an apartment in every town and city I have a boutique in. This morning I was woken up by sirens, and I saw Law-enforcers on the side of the hotel that holds suites for their wealthy guests."
- "The servant that brought me my breakfast was able to tell me that someone was murdered and what his colleague had found wasn't a pretty sight. I had trouble eating my breakfast after he told me," I say.
- "I asked Pauline, who is my assistant, to keep an eye on the news for me. I wanted to know who was murdered in that room and if those details would be made public by Law-enforcement. Because of that, I doubt Mr. Clarkson will come after my Father - he was the one they found murdered this morning. I'm just not sure I should tell how he was found though," I say. I see everyone looking at me, and the look in Dad's eyes tells me I will tell him, even if the rest don't want to hear it.
- Alpha Dillon turns toward Dad before looking at me again. "I'm probably going to regret asking, but why don't you tell us how he was found?" he asks. As I look into his eyes I say, "With his dick shoved down his throat." I look around the table to see every male with a pained expression on their faces, while the females are looking a little pale. Fortune, on the other hand, is laughing her ass off.
- "The Angel of Death," I hear Dad whisper, and the rest of them just nod their heads. Looks like they all agree on who is responsible for this kill. Like every other Wolf and Lycan, I have heard the rumors that go around every town and city, but I also know that most seem to think it is our Pack that has carried out those kills.
- Even the Council of Elders keeps trying to pin it on us, but they have never been able to for lack of evidence.
- "Great, another kill they will try to pin on us," I hear Mack, our Head Assassin, say.
