Chapter 5 Behave and He'll See You

  • Back then, she was seeing Lawrence, so she rejected Jade.
  • Jade threatened to stop paying Summer's mother's medical expenses. It turned out she succeeded.
  • They're so cruel.
  • After a moment of contemplation, Summer took off the ring and gave it to Grace. "Grace, I must go now. Help me keep the ring. If I'm not mistaken, those people had caught my assaulter. If the owner comes looking for the ring, help me return it to them."
  • "No way! The guy owes the ring to you after everything! Returning it would be too good for him!"
  • She has a point. I don't want him to get off too easily. Yet, the ring owner is innocent.
  • "It's okay. I'm miserable anyway. A ring won't make any difference."
  • Deep down, she prayed to meet her assaulter again, so she could skin him alive and drink his blood.
  • Sitting in the car, Ferdinand sneezed several times in a row.
  • He wasn't superstitious.
  • Still, he believed the woman must have cursed him, which resulted in him sneezing.
  • Therefore, he told his assistant, Ben Sutton, "Bring the girl over as early as possible tomorrow."
  • Ben had been working alongside him for eight years. He had never seen Ferdinand caring about another woman.
  • Upon receiving the order, Ben smiled. "Mr. Montgomery, you care about her a lot. I bet she's beautiful."
  • "Mind your own business." Ferdinand dismissed him curtly. His cold tone was devoid of friendliness.
  • In fact, it was very dark in the tent when he made love to her, so he couldn't make out her face.
  • Still, he reckoned she was beautiful considering she had defined features.
  • At the Elledge Residence.
  • Jade locked Summer up when she returned home.
  • "Let me out! I want to talk to Kennard!" Summer protested.
  • "Your father will see you as long as you behave and marry Ferdinand," Jade said nonchalantly.
  • Summer found her aloofness quite irritating.
  • However, she was the one who decided Summer's mother would live or die.
  • Summer was unable to turn the tables on her.
  • "If you want me to marry Ferdinand, fine. Give me one hundred thousand now to treat my mother." Summer laid out her conditions. Since she couldn't escape the fate of being a stand-in bride, she could only fight for her mother's wellbeing.
  • "One hundred thousand? Ha! Summer, aren't you ashamed of yourself?" Jade looked at Summer with disgust as if she wanted to kill Summer with a look. "Abigail told me you have slept with another man. A cheap sl*t like you have lost the right to negotiate. You must marry Ferdinand no matter what."
  • After that, Jade turned on her heel to leave with her chin up.
  • Summer stopped her in time. "Wait, since you know I'm not a virgin, you shouldn't force me to marry him. If the bloodthirsty monster discovers you sent an impure woman to marry him, he'll destroy us all."
  • Her words failed to intimidate Jade. Instead, the older woman snickered. "Save your breath, Summer. Ferdinand is a monster, but an impotent monster. So, whether you maintain your virginity or not doesn't matter. You'll die on your wedding night anyway while we'll swim in banknotes to celebrate your passing."
  • Her undisguised words cut Summer open like a knife. Even so, her mocking expression was like a twist of the knife. It stabbed deeper into Summer's heart, leaving her gasping in pain.
  • "You're shameless!" Summer roared.
  • Jade ignored her and left with a smile.
  • As the iron door shut, Jade's cruel words echoed outside the storage room. "Keep an eye on her. Nobody can see her or open the door for her until the Montgomery Family comes to pick her up."
