Chapter 6 Who's Selling Their Daughter This Time?

  • "You'll die terribly, Jade!" Summer cursed, her heart sinking into her stomach.
  • She had been hearing rumors since she was three years old.
  • Jade was more than a secretary to Summer's father, Kennard. They had long been having an affair secretly.
  • Her mother, Winona, became a vegetable because Jade pushed her down the stairs after she caught them in the office.
  • Winona had been bedridden for twenty years since then.
  • However, Jade told the outsiders that Winona cheated on Kennard and it was Winona's fault that she fell down the stairs. Jade insisted the accident had nothing to do with her.
  • Since Winona was hospitalized, Jade and Abigail, who were only six months old at that time, brazenly moved in with Kennard.
  • Then, twenty years had passed.
  • Now Summer was twenty-three years old, but her mother never woke up.
  • She was longing to hear Winona's voice again.
  • She refused to be Jade's pawn. She refused to be manipulated by Jade after she had learned everything.
  • Yet, she hadn't seen Winona since she returned home last night.
  • Jade's men had taken Winona somewhere else while Kennard refused to show his face.
  • She was helpless in this situation and could only wait for the Montgomery Family to pick her up.
  • Meanwhile, Agatha was expecting Ferdinand in the living room of Montgomery Residence.
  • She was dressed in a floral dress, her silver hair meticulously styled.
  • Last night, she learned that her grandson, Ferdinand, had given away the family's ancestral ruby ring.
  • It indicated he had found the woman who could carry the child of the Montgomery Family.
  • Seeing him enter the room, she eagerly asked, "Where's the girl?"
  • He sauntered over and sat down beside her. Then, he picked up the coffee on the table and sipped it. "My people are picking her up."
  • "Good, good." Agatha chattered in excitement, "It's rare you fell for a woman. Make sure to treat her well after you get married. I'm expecting a great-grandson soon…"
  • Just then, his phone rang. It was Ben calling.
  • He answered the phone. Ben hurriedly reported, "Mr. Montgomery, I couldn't find the girl you asked me to look for."
  • Ferdinand paused at the information. "What's going on?"
  • Ben truthfully answered, "When we arrived at the campsite, nobody was around. We asked around but no one had seen her. Moreover…"
  • "What's wrong?" Ferdinand pressed when Ben hesitated.
  • "It seems like someone committed suicide."
  • Committed suicide? Ferdinand's heart instantly tightened at the news.
  • He coldly ordered, "Keep looking for her. Turn the place upside down if you must. Just bring her back to me."
  • He had never panicked for anything or anyone before. The woman from last night made an exception.
  • Agatha shared his anxiety when she heard the report beside him. "What does he mean he couldn't find her? Did she run away after learning about your deceased wives?"
  • The thought of her future granddaughter-in-law running away was unbearable.
  • Despite her question, Ferdinand remained silent. Her comment hit a sore spot.
  • However, she doted on him. When she saw his gloomy expression, she felt sorry for him. She immediately comforted him, "It's okay. She missed a great opportunity."
  • She continued with a grin, "It's no big deal if she fled. I have found a suitable wife for you. You'll get married in three days."
  • "Oh?" He was intrigued. He arched his eyebrows in amusement and sneered, "Who's selling their daughter this time?"
  • He wasn't exaggerating.
  • Ever since his reputation for being impotent and killing his wife on their wedding night spread, the daughters of the upper class refused to marry him. Whoever was willing to marry him was undoubtedly coveting his family's wealth.
