Chapter 5 Just Finished?
- Winnie was momentarily stunned and remained silent in response to Susan's words for a long time.
- She couldn't disclose to Susan the current state of her relationship with Jonathan, or rather, their relationship over the past five years of marriage. They were complete strangers, not even acquaintances, let alone someone she could turn to for help.
- ...
- The board meeting commenced promptly at nine in the morning.
- After several hours of discussion, Winnie left the meeting room when it was already lunchtime.
- Susan's face was filled with admiration as she eagerly handed the documents to Winnie.
- With a smile, she said, "You've successfully completed such a significant project. Not only did you silence the older members, but you also generated substantial benefits for the company. The president will undoubtedly be pleased. Go find him. Perhaps you can have lunch together."
- Winnie tugged at the corner of her mouth. She didn't feel as at ease as Susan presumed. While she had managed to navigate the board meeting, the path for the Thompsons within the Foster Group remained challenging. Such situations would not be uncommon in the future.
- She lifted her gaze and looked at the closed door of the president's office. Winnie instinctively exhaled and walked resolutely towards it.
- Just as she was about to knock on the door, Lisa, with a flushed face, emerged from inside.
- Upon seeing Winnie, she appeared embarrassed and bashful, asking, "Why are you here?"
- Had they just finished something?
- The annoyance in Winnie's heart resurfaced, but her face remained composed and indifferent. She replied, "Do I need to report to you? Step aside!"
- However, Lisa stood her ground, leaning against the door frame, and the once gentle demeanor had long vanished.
- "Miss Thompson, I always believed you to be intelligent and self-respecting, but I am quite disappointed now," she sneered with a contemptuous tone.
- "Jonathan's love for me has never wavered in these five years. Recently, he noticed I was getting bored from staying at home, so he casually arranged a position for me within the company.
- I never anticipated that it would be a position on par with yours."
- "Tell me, doesn't this mean that even if I didn't marry him, he still sees me as his wife?"
