Chapter 3 A Matter Of Life And Death

  • These individuals were all high-ranking executives from Herbonix Pharmaceuticals, as well as family members of Seraphina.
  • They had been unable to reach Seraphina from last night until now, so they feared that something unfortunate could have happened. Seeing Seraphina now, they finally felt a weight lifted off their shoulders.
  • A handsome young man was warily eyeing Adler as he asked, “What happened, Seraphina? Who is this guy?”
  • He was Seraphina's younger brother, Stellan Xenos.
  • “We'll discuss this matter later. He saved me, so you make sure to get him a hundred thousand in cash,” Seraphina said softly.
  • “I'll see to it right away!” Stellan replied and went to withdraw the money.
  • Being efficient and exceptional in her work, Seraphina led a group of people hurriedly toward the ballroom, continuously coordinating various arrangements.
  • A table of food was arranged for Adler in the ballroom outside the private room at the party. He was instructed to wait there for Stellan to bring the money.
  • It had been over twenty hours since Yuliana and her family had driven him out of the family.
  • After getting into two fights in a row, Adler was indeed famished.
  • He was completely unconcerned about his image, wolfing down his food like a wild beast.
  • Ever since he became paralyzed, he had never enjoyed a meal as thoroughly as this one.
  • As Adler finished off his meal, Stellan came over carrying a bag of cash.
  • Upon seeing the chaotic state of the desk, a hint of disdain involuntarily flashed in his eyes.
  • Stellan then casually tossed a bundle of cash in front of Adler, saying nonchalantly, “Take the money and leave immediately. After this, we're even.”
  • Frowning, Adler stared at Stellan, who was acting high and mighty, feeling somewhat annoyed.
  • He wondered if all scions suffered from a superiority complex.
  • Unable to hold back, Adler retorted, “Do you always suspect that everyone has ulterior motives toward your family?”
  • Stellan scoffed in response. “Isn't that the case? People like you, who are not well-off, probably think you've done us a minor favor. Are you trying to latch onto the Xenos family to gain greater benefits?”
  • Adler felt speechless when he heard that. “You're overthinking it.”
  • Stellan, however, continued to push his luck. “People like you, with your impoverished mindset, simply can't fit into the upper class. Don't even think that by helping my sister once, she would develop any sort of affection for you. The idea of an ugly loser like you marrying a rich and beautiful woman like her is nothing more than wishful thinking! After all, your image and abilities don't even match up to our company's security guards!” he said with a sneer.
  • Adler was also getting somewhat annoyed.
  • The arrogant mindset and superior attitude of these people greatly irritated him.
  • Having collected his money, Adler rose, ready to take his leave.
  • Right now, all he wanted was to return and confront Yuliana's family to seek justice.
  • “Help! Somebody!”
  • At that moment, the door to the ballroom was abruptly pushed open, and a flurry of startled exclamations echoed from within.
  • Filled with uncertainty, Adler hurried to the entrance of the private room to investigate.
  • The ballroom was filled with dozens of people, who were now in complete disarray, each person panic-stricken.
  • On the ground was George Leedon, an elderly man dressed in a traditional suit. He had blood flowing from all his orifices.
  • Several men, all uniformly dressed in black suits, were cautiously surrounding George on the ground. Next to George was Wyatt, a traditional medicine practitioner and George's personal physician.
  • After bending over to assess George's condition, Wyatt seemed utterly helpless, anxiously grabbing his phone to dial for emergency assistance. He continued to make call after call, apparently notifying George's family.
  • “Let's take him straight to the hospital,” someone said.
  • A portly man, his belly protruding noticeably, saw a group of assistants and drivers gathered at the entrance. He shouted, “Hurry over here! We need to get Old Mr. Leedon into the car and rush him to the hospital!”
  • “Don't move him! This is a case of sudden cerebral hemorrhage, and there's bleeding in the brainstem. If he's moved carelessly, it could cause a concussion, and he would die instantly.”
  • At that moment, a resonant voice echoed throughout the private room.
  • In an instant, all eyes were drawn toward the source of the voice.
  • There stood a disheveled man next to Seraphina, his hair a chaotic mess, his face unshaven, and his clothes cheap and worn-out.
  • Having inherited the knowledge of Miracle Doctor of Duality from his ancestors, Adler instantly recognized George's symptoms.
  • Blood was flowing from all George's orifices, indicating that the brain hemorrhage was quite severe.
  • The portly man suddenly panicked. “Let's not move him, then. We should wait here for the ambulance to arrive.”
  • Adler shook his head. “With a stroke this severe, without immediate treatment, he could only survive for a maximum of fifteen minutes. It's the height of noon, and the nearest hospital is forty minutes away. By the time the ambulance arrives, his body would already turn cold.”
  • Wyatt naturally identified George's symptoms, yet he dared not to hastily treat them.
  • After all, with a blood stasis in the brain, so there was absolutely no room for error.
  • He hadn't expected that the young man before him had actually figured it out.
  • “You know medicine?” he asked in surprise.
  • Adler nodded.
  • “Can you save him, then?” Wyatt pressed on.
  • Adler nodded firmly. “Sure.”
  • The CEO of Kinesis Group, Lucian Fowler, had already learned about Adler's situation from his son, Maverick.
  • He purposely raised his voice and said, “This guy is with Ms. Xenos of Herbonix Pharmaceuticals! If anything happens to Old Mr. Leedon because of this guy's reckless actions, we would have nothing to do with it!”
  • He was incredibly ruthless, even scheming to drag Herbonix Pharmaceuticals down with Adler.
  • He didn't believe for a second that this guy before him could actually cure illnesses.
  • When the time comes and Old Mr. Leedon truly passes away from his illness, we could conveniently shift all the blame onto him! We'll let this guy bear the brunt of the Leedon family's fury alongside Herbonix Pharmaceuticals!
  • Upon seeing the situation, Stellan hurriedly rushed in, glaring at Adler. “Know your place! You're just a driver! What do you know about medicine? If by chance something were to happen to Old Mr. Leedon under your care, do you really want everyone to go down with you?”
  • He then turned to the others and said, “We better rush him to the hospital!”
  • Upon hearing that Adler was merely a driver, Wyatt, the personal physician, was immediately filled with disappointment.
  • Having spent many years in Nusridge, Adler naturally understood the significance of the Leedon family.
  • It could almost be said that the Leedon family was the sky of Nusridge.
  • They were truly the leading family in Nusridge.
  • Adler stared at Stellan, his brow furrowed as he said, “This is a matter of life and death. Given the patient's current condition, any hasty movement could cause a slight concussion in the brain, which could potentially be fatal.”
  • “I'm surprised you even understand that this is a matter of life and death. Even just driving my sister around would cost a hundred grand. Money-oriented people like you are just using this opportunity to turn your fortunes around! If you somehow accidentally manage to cure him, you'd claim all the credit. However, if something goes wrong with the treatment, all of us will have to share the responsibility. You sure came up with quite the scheme!” Stellan exclaimed with a face full of disdain.
  • “I just want to save his life. Any mishaps that happen as a result will be my responsibility to bear,” Adler said.
  • “What do you think you are? I'm quite familiar with this mindset of yours, which is typical of poor people. You know who Old Mr. Leedon really is, and you want to risk your worthless life for a shot at glory and wealth, don't you?” Stellan retorted.
  • “Ms. Xenos, the deputy CEO makes a valid point. We should promptly remove this individual. We can't let him go on spouting nonsense here.”
  • “What if something were to happen to Old Mr. Leedon under our care? Who would bear that responsibility?”
  • Everyone else was also glaring at Adler in outrage, all voicing their intentions to drive him out.
  • After all, if George really did die at this banquet, everyone present would be legally accountable, and that wasn't even the most terrifying part.
  • The wrath of the Leedon family was enough to utterly destroy them all.
  • Seeing everyone rallying against Adler, Stellan was quite pleased. There was no way he would allow such a money-oriented person to succeed.
  • Seraphina, however, shot a glare at Stellan and said, “Stellan, you better not spout nonsense. Mr. Quintrell isn't that type of person.”
  • With an air of frustration, Stellan exclaimed, “Seraphina, I have no idea where this penniless guy popped up from. He only helped you to gain some benefits from you. He probably only knows the basics and wants to try his luck. If his plan works, he will achieve meteoric success, but if he fails, we're the ones who will suffer as a result!”
  • “Shut up! If we delay any longer, there will be no chance of saving Old Mr. Leedon!” Seraphina snapped back at him.
  • Adler was somewhat anxious. After all, a life was at stake. If the best opportunity for rescue was missed due to these people fighting and scheming against one another, it would truly be a regrettable loss.
