Chapter 9 My Place

  • Yuliana and her family were all at home.
  • Isaac personally paid a visit, leaving Ivanna and Quincy utterly flattered.
  • They all knew that, deep down, Isaac held no respect for families like their own.
  • Due to Jonathan's successful wooing of Mila Zeller, Isaac's daughter, she refused to marry anyone but him.
  • Hence, Isaac had no choice but to agree to this marriage.
  • To their great delight, there was a complete turnaround in Isaac's attitude at that moment.
  • The warmth and familiarity were overwhelming while they addressed each other as in-laws.
  • Although Ivanna and the others were somewhat perplexed, they were ecstatic inside.
  • They exchanged pleasantries for a while, and Isaac said to Jonathan, “Jon, our company has successfully secured the project from Luminara Hospital. This time, I plan on entrusting you with both the waterproofing and earthwork projects. However, you'll have to figure out the funding on your own. After all, the company is experiencing some financial strain with this project.”
  • Just like that, Yuliana, Quincy, and Jonathan were dumbfounded.
  • They simply couldn't believe it.
  • Those were the two most lucrative projects in the construction industry.
  • Jonathan exclaimed excitedly, jabbing his finger in the air, “Thank you! I promise I won't let you down!”
  • “Get everything ready as soon as possible. As soon as the engagement is settled, we'll start the project immediately.” Isaac laughed heartily.
  • “All right!” Jonathan said.
  • Isaac then rose to his feet, giving Jonathan a firm pat on the shoulder. “Keep up the good work,” he encouraged. “I don't have a son of my own, so the future of Crafton Construction will be in your hands!”
  • Upon hearing these words, Jonathan and his family were instantly engulfed in boundless joy and fantasy, feeling as if they were on the brink of becoming billionaires.
  • Isaac then wanted to leave. He had taken only a few steps when he suddenly turned back and said, “By the way, there's a banquet at the Leedon residence tomorrow night. A lot of dignitaries and benefactors will be attending. Come with me. Getting to know more friends will be beneficial for your future.”
  • Upon hearing this, Jonathan couldn't help but be overwhelmed with joy. The buzz surrounding the Leedon family's banquet in Nusridge is the talk of the town. How prestigious is it to be able to attend the banquet at the Leedon residence?
  • Jonathan thought he understood Isaac's intentions. He's genuinely planning to groom me to be his successor.
  • With that in mind, Jonathan exclaimed with great excitement, “I heard that this time, the Leedon family is specifically expressing gratitude to a mysterious individual! Do you know who it is?”
  • Isaac gave a noncommittal smile. “It's someone you know! You'll be utterly shocked when you see him! All right, you better get ready!”
  • The group was instantly bewildered. Is it someone we know? Do we know such a bigwig?
  • Coming back to his senses, Jonathan quickly responded, “All right, I'll definitely perform well. You are my benefactor, and I will certainly not let down your expectations.”
  • Isaac, however, turned his gaze toward the stunningly beautiful Yuliana. With a teasing smirk, he said, “I'm not the benefactor in your life, you know.”
  • After saying that, he left.
  • Ivanna, puzzled, asked, “That last thing he said to Yules seemed like he was hinting at something.”
  • After a moment of contemplation, a spark of realization suddenly lit up in Quincy's eyes. “Could the benefactor he mentioned be Mr. Gossamer? The Leedon family must have thrown a banquet specifically for him! Among the people we know, it's only Mr. Gossamer whose status is truly distinguished.”
  • Jonathan clapped his hands. “That's right! It must be Mr. Gossamer. It must be that my father-in-law found out about the relationship between Yuliana and Mr. Gossamer. That's why they suddenly handed me such a massive project and changed their attitude toward us.”
  • The more Ivanna thought about it, the more she felt the possibility was immense. She couldn't help but show a face full of excitement. “It must be so.”
  • When Yuliana thought about that handsome and dashing man, her face was filled with happiness. She smiled sweetly and said, “This kind of thing is indeed very easy for him. Besides, he's also taking me to the Leedon family's banquet tomorrow.”
  • The more Yuliana thought about it, the more excited she became. The Leedon family is hosting Xavier with such solemnity and grandeur. By then, he'll naturally become the center of attention, with all eyes on him. As his companion, I'm definitely going to be the most radiant woman on the scene!
  • Ivanna then said in a serious tone, “You need to hurry up and divorce that loser, Adler. We can't let this one bad apple spoil the rest of us.”
  • After some thought, Jonathan said, “Moreover, we must strive to acquire his property. We'll need to prepare several million for this project. That house of his is worth at least five million. Our old family home could probably be mortgaged for around two million. Considering the savings we have, it should be about enough.”
  • Ivanna expressed some concern by asking, “Do we really have to mortgage our house? Is that even reliable?”
  • Jonathan, however, smirked and said, “There's no venture in Nusridge that's more reliable and profitable than Luminara Hospital. Even if it means losing everything, I have to do it. Mom, just wait and see! We're truly going to make it big this time.”
  • Hearing Jonathan's unwavering confidence, Ivanna decided not to say anything further.
  • That night, all the members of the Faraday family were deeply engrossed in their dreams of prosperity and success.
  • The following day, Adler and Flynn met at Dionysus Restaurant.
  • “The man's identity has been uncovered.” Flynn tossed the documents onto Adler's desk, his expression somewhat grave.
  • Adler flipped through the files to review them.
  • The man's name was Xavier Gossamer. Astonishingly, he was the eldest son of the Gossamer family, one of the Ten Major Families in Nusridge.
  • On the surface, Xavier appeared to be a charming and suave gentleman. But behind closed doors, he was ruthless and cold-hearted.
  • In Nusridge, he was quite a notorious figure among the rich and spoiled scions.
  • He was even known as one of the Ten Distinguished Gentlemen in Nusridge.
  • The documents also contained a few photographs.
  • In the photograph, Xavier and Yuliana appeared incredibly close and intimate.
  • Joy was unmistakably etched on Yuliana's face.
  • Adler's fists were tightly clenched after he flipped through the documents. No wonder the Faraday family is so arrogantly heartless, given they have secured such a wealthy scion of illustrious lineage.
  • When Adler thought about how indifferent Yuliana treated him while treating another man affectionately, he couldn't help but envision Yuliana, her face flushed with shyness, in a compromising position under someone else.
  • For a man, that was undoubtedly the most brutal humiliation and blow.
  • A surge of anger ignited within his chest, making him feel as though he was on the verge of exploding, leaving him in uncomfortable distress.
  • With a heavy thud, Adler's fist slammed on the coffee table. He then thundered, “Whether it's Yuliana and her family or Xavier, I will make them pay.”
  • Flynn deeply understood the emotions Adler was experiencing at that moment. The wife he once deeply loved is treating him with an icy coldness. She even disregarded him when he was paralyzed. Yet, she's willingly throwing herself into the arms of another man. This is unbearable for any man to endure. Though unbearable, he must nevertheless confront reality.
  • “Do you have any idea what the concept of the Ten Major Families is? To put it bluntly, for Xavier to crush us would be even easier than stepping on two ants,” Flynn uttered with a grave expression.
  • “So what? No matter who he is, I'll make sure he pays the price!” Adler said defiantly.
  • Flynn was instructed to carry on with the investigation and surveillance while Adler returned home to prepare for a banquet at the Leedon residence.
  • At that moment, Yuliana absolutely did not want to see Adler.
  • She had had enough of that man who was meek and submissive and didn't have an ounce of masculinity.
  • Seeing his face made her feel as if her eyes had been tainted.
  • For the sake of her brother's career and to sever ties with Adler once and for all, she still found herself reluctantly returning to the home she had long grown weary of.
  • At that moment, Adler had just finished changing his clothes and was preparing to leave the house.
  • A frown involuntarily formed on his face when he saw Yuliana let herself in.
  • Yuliana was seated nonchalantly on the couch, legs crossed, exuding an air of arrogance akin to a proud swan.
  • She then casually tossed a bank card onto the coffee table. “Once you sign the divorce agreement, the house will be mine, and this one million will be yours.”
  • The house was Adler's, and the money on the card was, in fact, compensation Adler had received.
  • However, the tone of her speech was as if she was bestowing charity.
