Chapter 7
- Melody stared up at the ceiling, thinking about what had just happened between her and Brent. The kiss was unexpected and had taken her breath away. He tasted sweet and fresh and she loved every minute of it. She had always thought sharing saliva was disgusting and had always puked whenever her twin, Luci told her things like that. Luci would laugh it off, saying Mel was a grandma and didn't understand what real enjoyment was. Mel had thrown Luci a dirty glare, saying it was harsh to refer to her as an old woman. Luci had added that, when Mel finally found love, she would cease being pessimistic about kissing. Mel had rolled her eyes to that.
- She turned and tossed, lost in thought. What was she supposed to do now? It would be better to cut off ties with Brent and maintain a distance between them. It's not like she knew him that well, heck, she didn't even know anything about him at all except what he told her tonight. She had sensed an aura of wealth around him but she didn't know he was that rich. She should be happy that she got to meet one of the richest men in the state but honestly, she didn't know how she felt.
- And the kiss, Mel remembered again and involuntarily put her hands on her lips. Was she starting to like him now? She asked herself. Giving up, she got down from bed, drew her blanket tightly around her, and went to the window. She pushed the curtains aside and stared into the night. The moonlight was dull and the stars were up tonight. The light gave a hair a dull look, like a fire about to be put out. She sighed, rubbing her hands on her face. Looking up, she looked down from the terrace and searched the ground. Suddenly, she saw someone or something, whatever it was, standing under the shadows of the Orchard tree. Her heart caught up in her throat, she strained her eyes to see the figure. She could see it was a human now, the silhouette of a man. The person was wearing a face cap drawn lowly over and a nose mask so she couldn't see his face at all. A few seconds later, the shadow vanished and she frowned. Was she hallucinating? Was she seeing things now? She groaned and drew back the curtains. She contemplated going to Luci's room to sleep but at last, she went over to her bed.
