Chapter 7
- “Gabby baby, are you new here? This is the first time I’m seeing you in this class. Are you studying radiography? Would you like to be my friend? Scratch that, you’re my friend already.”
- I like him already. His Charisma is something else though.
- “Are you seriously going to call me Gabby baby? And yeah, I just transferred here to study radiography.”
- “Yeah… You are now my little cute friend.” He comments.
- I just look at him.
- The lecturer walks in with a textbook and his materials. He is wearing a green long sleeve button up shirt and brown trousers with black office shoes. He looks like he’s in his fifties or so.
- “Good afternoon class, My name is Doctor Anderson and today we’ll be talking about Magnetic Resonance imaging. MRI detects the concentration of blood flow in certain parts of the brain during various activities. It has a major advantage of not exposing patients to radiation.”
- The bell rings. The lecturer gives us an assignment before he leaves the class. As I packed up my notebooks to head to the next class, Ryan was smiling at me. He had his bag on his arm, patiently waiting for me.
- Does he smile this much?
- “We have the next class together. Lets go,” He says as he pulls my arm.
- I’m so exhausted, drained, fatigued.
- Ryan is still here smiling like he didn’t just have three classes, each lasting for an hour and half.
- “You’re coming for the party this friday right?” He asks as we walk through the hallway. we’re going home.
- “What party?”
- “You didn’t hear of the party? The whole school knows about it and you don’t? Are you living under a rock or something?”
- I’ve actually heard rumors about it. I don't like parties. My brother used to call me a party popper.
- “I’m hosting a party this friday. And because I’m the host and you’re my friend you have to be there.”
- “I’m sorry but I have to decline. I’ll come next time’”
- “I’m not taking no for an answer Gabs. I know your type of girls, you’ll just watch movies, buy popcorn and icecream. It’ll be netflix and chill with yourself. And have a boring night…”
- That’s exactly how I planned it to be. but it won’t be boring though.
- “I don't even have what to wear…”
- My wardrobe is full of corporate wear and boys clothes. I just loved stealing my brother's clothes. Although I bought some, I have just sweatshirts, hoodies and big clothes.
- “I’ll help you. We’ll go shopping together. I’ll pay for it.”
- “You’re really persistent on having me..”
- “Just say yes,” He looks at me with puppy dog eyes.
- It doesn’t fool me but I just have to agree so that he’ll leave me alone.
- “Okay… I’ll try and be there. Can I have your phone? I want to dial my number.”
- He hands it to me and I quickly dial my digits.
- “Okay… I’ll text you this evening so that you can save mine. I’m going that way.” He points the way opposite my hostel.
- “I’m heading the other way. I’ll see you later, bye.” I wave at him.
- “You’ll see me tomorrow and next and every other day,” He chuckles.
- “Okay… bye” I smile.
- He’s cute.
- As I walk home, I bring out my phone from my bag and call Sage. I think she'll be done with her classes by now.
- She picks up at the second ring.
- "Hello, It's Gabrielle." I spoke up immediately and she answered.
- "Oh.. hi dear."
- "Are you free this evening? I was wondering if we could talk for a bit."
- "Yeah… I'm free. Where should we meet?"
- "Can you meet me at Super Cafe?"
- "Okay… I'll be there in 10 mins. Bye," she hangs up.
- I head towards the Cafe. I pull the door and step in, the place has a homey setting. Brown wood tiles on the ground, cushion chairs, wood tables, white and lilac decorations everywhere. I sit at the corner, in a place where it would be comfortable to talk.
- I ordered a fruit smoothie and cupcake.
- After some minutes, the door opens and Sage walks in.
- I wave at her, she has a smile on her face as she walks towards me.
- "Hi darling, how are you? You're looking beautiful as always," she comments.
- "Thank you. Please have your seat. What do you want to order."
- She sits down and places her order.
- "So… what do you want to know?" She faces me.
- "I just want to know everything. You guys were doing a project together, why was he the only one that died in there? Where are the other students?" I ask.
- She signs before saying, "Yes there were other students. It was in the evening around 5pm when we started the project. We had just finished an engineering course by 4pm so we went to eat and came back to start the project. All petroleum engineering students had to do the project…..” She paused before she said. “Promise me that whatever I tell you stays between us. I don't want others hearing about it." She whispers the past part.
- "I promise," I say with a serious face.
- "Okay, Kaden, Samuel and I were doing the project. At some point, they were whispering and after they began to argue. I tried to stop the argument and told them to concentrate because we were going to submit the paperwork before the weekend. I felt dizzy so I went to the restroom and I figured out it was my time of the month. I told them I had to go home and I would be there to continue the project the following day. They were still speaking harshly to each other but I left. That's what I remember."
- "Okay… Can you perhaps remember why they were arguing? What happened before the argument?"
- "They were arguing about drugs. I think Kaden was angry at Sam because he did more of the talking. Oh… and when I left the building, I saw Cole, he was going in."
- Drugs?! I don't understand.
- "They were arguing about drugs? I don't get it." At this point, I'm a bit confused. Sammy didn't do drugs, there was no need to. My parents were really loaded with money and there was no need for that.
- "I think you should ask Kaden about it. I suspect he knows something but he changes the topic anytime I want to ask him."
- "Okay. I will. Thank you for meeting up with me. I'm heading out. Please can I get Kaden and Cole's numbers?" I say as I pick up my bag and place a bill on the table. I give her my phone and she types the numbers and saves it on my phone.
- "Yeah, no problem. I'll see you around," she replies as she takes a sip of the strawberry smoothie she ordered.
- I feel like talking to Cole first before I confront Kaden, after all he's the main suspect.
- On Thursday, Ryan drove me to the mall and insisted on paying for what I bought. We literally argued in front of the cashier, she thought we were siblings. I didn’t win though, he paid for it.
- He offered to pick me up at my hostel this friday evening and I declined. Cathy is coming with me so we’ll go together. She doesn't like parties either. She’s just like me. I think she said her friends will also be there. We booked an uber to the address.
