Chapter 12 The Critical Moment

  • Ye Zemin raised an eyebrow, seemingly unimpressed. "Anyone can talk big, but how do you plan to reclaim the Huo family when you can't even see?"
  • Ye Manxi withdrew her hand from Huo Miao's palm and approached Ye Zemin, gesturing towards the door with a lift of her chin, indicating for him to go first.
  • "Daughter, I'm doing this for your own good. So, tell me, where is your grandfather's medical book..."
  • Unable to bear it any longer, Ye Manxi pushed him out of the garden and forcefully closed the iron gate.
  • Ever since her mother and grandparents passed away, Ye Manxi's days had become increasingly difficult.
  • Her stepmother and Ye Lvhe constantly harassed her, while Ye Zemin pretended to be oblivious, only thinking about how to make a fortune.
  • She had grown accustomed to their humiliation since she was young, but she couldn't tolerate Ye Zemin humiliating Huo Miao.
  • When she closed the iron gate with force, the protruding carvings on the gate cut her hand, causing it to bleed.
  • She took a deep breath, which was heard by Huo Miao.
  • He knew that Ye Manxi must have been injured, so he hurriedly walked faster. Unfortunately, there was a stone under his feet, causing him to stumble and fall.
  • Ye Manxi quickly went over to help him up, only to see that Huo Miao's palms were all scraped by the rough cement ground, even worse than her own injuries.
  • She didn't mind her own injuries, but when she saw Huo Miao hurt, she felt heartbroken and almost cried.
  • She held his hand, unable to cry or say anything. Huo Miao gently asked her, "I'm fine, how about you? Where are you injured?"
  • Ye Manxi shook her head. Huo Miao was more seriously injured than herself.
  • She sniffed, trying not to let herself cry, and motioned for Mei Jie, who was standing at the door watching the commotion, to bring her medicine box.
  • She gestured for a long time, but Mei Jie stood still, arms crossed, leaning casually against the door frame. "I don't understand, who knows what you mean."
  • "Mei Jie," Huo Miao spoke in a low voice, "Is this how you talk to the young mistress?"
  • Though his voice was low, it still carried a sense of intimidation. Mei Jie rolled her eyes. "Young master, please don't make things difficult for me. One of you is blind and the other is mute. How am I supposed to communicate with you?"
  • "If you can't communicate, then get out of here!" Huo Miao pointed at the door. "Right now, immediately!"
  • Although Mei was afraid, she took advantage of Huo Miao's inability to see and hid inside the door.
  • The butler walked over and gestured to Mei, whispering, "There's no need to say much to them in their current state. When Mr. Huo gets tired of them, he can just kick them out of Qiucheng."
  • "That's true, so I don't have to waste my breath," Mei stomped her foot and went inside.
  • Huo Miao helped Ye Manxi up, and his fingers touched the wound on her hand. His hand trembled visibly in the sunlight as he gently held her hand.
  • "This is only temporary," Huo Miao whispered to Ye Manxi. "They won't always have the upper hand over us, Lühe, I swear."
  • Ye Manxi squeezed his hand tightly, not caring about their cold words.
  • As long as she could be with Huo Miao, she would be content. What did Mei and the others' sarcastic remarks matter?
  • Supporting each other, they walked inside. Mei sat on the sofa, watching TV and snacking, enjoying herself as if she were the mistress here.
  • They returned to the room, and Ye Manxi found the medicine box to treat Huo Miao's wound, as well as her own, which was not serious.
  • It seemed like they were always getting injured, with one injury today and another tomorrow.
  • They couldn't talk to each other, as if it were impossible.
  • While washing her hands in the bathroom, Ye Manxi stared at her reflection in the mirror.
  • Huo Miao was on the phone, and she didn't know who he was talking to, but it seemed to be something important.
  • After washing her hands, she started brewing medicine for Huo Miao. However, as soon as she put the centipede in, the smell of the medicine made her stomach churn, and she had to cover her mouth to prevent herself from throwing up.
  • Could it be that she felt nauseous and scared when she saw the centipede?
  • That shouldn't be the case. She had been helping her grandmother with medicine since she was young, and she had boiled centipedes countless times. There was no reason for her to find it disgusting.
  • As the smell of the medicine grew stronger, she couldn't hold it in any longer and ran into the bathroom, leaning over the toilet to vomit.
  • She vomited all of her breakfast, and Huo Miao heard the commotion. He felt his way towards the bathroom and asked, "Lühe, what's wrong with you?"
  • She didn't know what was wrong with her either. Could it be that she caught a cold and her stomach was affected?
  • That shouldn't be the case. She was afraid that Huo Miao would be cold, so she had specifically lit a stove in the room, making it warm at night.
  • She suddenly thought of something and calculated the days of her menstrual cycle. It seemed like several days had passed.
  • She quickly took her pulse, the first time she had done it for herself, and it felt strange.
  • Huo Miao walked to the entrance of the bathroom, his tall figure occupying the entire space, almost hitting the top of the door frame with his head.
  • He furrowed his brows, worry evident in his handsome face. "Lvhe, are you sick?"
  • She carefully felt her pulse and then looked up at Huo Miao, her expression filled with disbelief.
  • She never expected that, at this critical moment, she would actually...
  • "Lvhe..." Not receiving a response from Ye Manxi, Huo Miao stepped into the bathroom.
  • The floor of the bathroom was a bit slippery, and Ye Manxi quickly reached out to support him.
  • She hated that she couldn't speak because there was earth-shattering news she wanted to tell Huo Miao, but she couldn't find a way to say it.
  • Holding Ye Manxi's frail hand, she seemed even thinner than when she first got married.
  • With pity, Huo Miao gently caressed her bony arm and said, "I'll call Jiang Jiye and ask him to bring some supplements for you to eat."
  • Ye Manxi shook her head and grabbed Huo Miao's hand, placing it on her own belly.
  • In front of Huo Miao, Ye Manxi's figure appeared blurry, but he could faintly discern her silhouette. She was shaking her head and nodding, as if she had something to say.
  • Huo Miao placed his hand on Ye Manxi's flat abdomen and suddenly had a realization. Overwhelmed with joy, he tightly embraced her. "Lvhe, are you expecting?"
  • The girl in his arms nodded vigorously, and the scent of her hair lingered beneath his nose.
  • He never anticipated that, in this moment, she would actually be carrying his child.
  • Cradling Ye Manxi's face, he gently lifted it, his gaze slowly traversing her features.
  • Despite the blurred figure, he could already see her.
  • He pressed his forehead against Ye Manxi's, whispering as if in a dream, "Lvhe, you are truly my lucky star. I want to witness the birth of our child with my own eyes..."
  • When he called her "Lvhe," Ye Manxi trembled.
  • She never even considered that she would suddenly be carrying Huo Miao's child. Since she wouldn't be staying by Huo Miao's side for long, what should she do about the child?
  • Huo Miao felt Ye Manxi's trembling and assumed it was due to her overwhelming happiness.
  • He held her tightly in his arms and kissed her hair. "Take good care of yourself. I will recover as soon as possible."
