Chapter 1 The Mute And The Blind

  • "I refuse to marry a blind man!"
  • A dress adorned with pearls was thrown down from upstairs, landing perfectly on Ye Manxi's face. Instinctively, she caught the dress and walked into her sister Ye Luhe's room.
  • Today was the day Ye Luhe was supposed to marry Huo Miao, but she had changed her mind.
  • Father Ye Zemin anxiously circled around Ye Luhe twice, saying, "Little sister-in-law, even if Huo Miao is blind, even if he has fallen out of favor, he is still a member of the Huo family. We can't afford to offend them!"
  • "I don't care. I'm not getting married, and whoever wants to marry can go ahead!"
  • Ye Luhe hysterically threw everything she could find onto the floor, leaving the room in a mess.
  • Stepmother Cen Mulan chimed in from the side, "If she doesn't want to get married, then she doesn't have to. How can someone like our Luhe marry a blind man?"
  • "The car is waiting outside!" Ye Zemin stomped his foot in frustration. "My little sister-in-law, you can't make me go and marry, right?"
  • Ye Luhe suddenly looked up and saw Ye Manxi standing at the door.
  • Her eyes lit up, and she pointed at Ye Manxi and shouted, "Her, let her marry!"
  • Ye Zemin turned around and saw his youngest daughter standing at the door. "But she can't speak!"
  • "I've never spoken in front of Huo Miao. He has always thought I was mute!"
  • Ye Zemin asked in surprise, "Why?"
  • "Dad, don't ask so many questions. A mute marrying a blind man is simply a perfect match! She's more suitable than me!"
  • Both the stepmother and Ye Zemin's gaze fell upon Ye Manxi.
  • The stepmother's eyes gleamed, "I think it's a good idea, husband." Cen Mulan nudged Ye Zemin, "After all, Huo Miao is blind, one can't see and the other can't speak. Isn't it perfect?"
  • Ye Zemin approached Ye Manxi with hope in his eyes. "Manxi..."
  • Without waiting for Ye Zemin to speak, Ye Manxi gestured to him, "Okay."
  • Then, she went back to her room, tightly holding onto the dress. Each small pearl on the dress pricked her palm.
  • Her gaze calmly swept over everyone in the room.
  • When it lingered on Ye Luhe, Ye Luhe couldn't help but avoid her gaze.
  • "Daughter..."
  • Before Ye Zemin could say anything, Ye Manxi gestured to him, "It's fine."
  • Then, she went back to her room to change into the dress.
  • Although Huo Miao had promised to come back and marry her when they were children, he ended up falling in love with her sister as they grew up.
  • But it didn't matter. After all, it was her who was marrying Huo Miao today.
  • Even though he is blind now, she is determined.
  • The dress is actually not quite suitable, a bit too big, but it doesn't matter.
  • As long as she can marry Huo Miao, anything will do.
  • Ye Manxi stepped out of the Ye family's gate and bent down to get into the car.
  • The car started and gradually moved away, heading towards a villa on the outskirts of the city where the Huo family resided.
  • There was no wedding, no ceremony.
  • *
  • The car stopped in front of an old villa. Ye Manxi got out of the car, pushed open the rusty iron gate, and walked through the dilapidated garden, standing at the entrance of the villa.
  • A thin middle-aged woman in her forties was cracking melon seeds as she opened the door. As soon as Ye Manxi entered, she was choked by the dust that filled the entire house.
  • Bathed in the sunlight shining in from behind, Ye Manxi surveyed the interior of the villa.
  • It seemed to be a building from several decades ago, with decorations and furniture that were many years old, permeating an air of decay.
  • Dust danced in the sunlight, covering everything. Has no one lived here for many years?
  • Could it be that Huo Miao really lives here?
  • The middle-aged woman spat out the melon seed shells and spoke slowly, "The young master is in the second room upstairs."
  • Carefully, step by step, Ye Manxi ascended the stairs. The wooden stairs were already broken in some places due to years of disrepair.
  • She heard the middle-aged woman mutter behind her, "The new bride is quite beautiful, but unfortunately, she's marrying a blind man!"
  • As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly saw Ye Manxi abruptly stop and turn around on the stairs, staring at her with sharp eyes.
  • The middle-aged woman closed her mouth nervously and turned away.
  • Ye Manxi went upstairs and at the doorway, she heard the noisy voices coming from inside.
  • "Give me a tip, double sixes, and I'll make our former CEO eat dirt on live stream!"
  • "This netizen doesn't believe it, look, isn't this our CEO Huo Miao?"
  • "If the tips exceed ten thousand, in half an hour, our CEO will live stream himself eating dirt! Hahaha..."
  • Ye Manxi forcefully pushed open the door. In the dusty room, two young people were holding their phones and vigorously filming someone's face.
  • That person was sitting on a worn-out wicker chair by the window, wearing sunglasses and a white shirt. The cold wind was blowing in through the window without glass.
  • Mind you, today is the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, extremely cold.
  • His face was pale from the wind, his lips dry and peeling. The sleeves of his shirt were still rolled up, exposing skin that had turned purple from the cold.
  • Despite his appearance, his features were still as handsome as ever.
  • He was facing her, so quiet, as if he were a stone sculpture.
  • In her eyes, he was no different from before.
  • The only difference was that he now wore a pair of sunglasses!
  • She still remembered his bright eyes from before, like amber accumulated by time, pure and mysterious.
  • As the two of them made a fuss, he seemed to be detached, completely unaware.
  • Yan Manxi's appearance startled the two young people, with one of them asking, "Who is she?"
  • "Who knows? Probably a new servant!"
  • "Huo Miao is like this now, why does he need so many servants?"
  • They continued to film Huo Miao with their phones, with one of them saying, "What's the point of filming like this? It's better to take off his clothes!"
  • "That won't work, the platform will ban us!"
  • "How about putting some feces in the toilet and stuffing it into his mouth? Our click-through rate will go up, won't it?"
  • Anger surged in Yan Manxi's chest as she walked over quickly, grabbing one of the person's wrists and knocking his phone to the ground.
  • The person became furious and exclaimed, "Who do you think you are? Just because you're a woman, it doesn't mean we won't do anything to you!"
  • "She's quite attractive. Why don't we undress both of them and take some scandalous photos?"
  • The two of them laughed maliciously.
  • "Young masters," the butler stood at the door with a smile, "Why don't we stop here for today? After all, it's our young master's special day."
  • "Oh." One of the young masters circled around Yan Manxi, "She's quite pretty, but my cousin can't see her anyway. What a waste."
  • "She's mute," the butler said.
  • "Oh." The two of them burst into laughter, "Perfect, perfect, they're truly a perfect match! A mute with a blind person, it's truly a match made in heaven!"
  • Disgusting laughter echoed in the empty room, but Huo Miao remained motionless, seemingly gazing into the distance outside the window. In reality, his world was pitch black, unable to see anything.
  • "Cousin, did you hear that? Your new wife is mute. From now on, you'll be a blind man and a mute woman, a pair of divine lovers!"
  • Suddenly, someone reached out and removed the sunglasses from Huo Miao's eyes, laughing and casually tossing them aside, "You're blind, why are you pretending?"
  • "These sunglasses are too heavy. Why don't we help you draw one on, so you don't have to take it off when you sleep with your new wife? Second cousin, there's ink over there, go get it!"
  • The second cousin fetched the ink, unscrewed the cap, and eagerly searched for a brush, saying, "I'll do the drawing."
  • "What's the point of painting? It's too much trouble. Just splash it on directly," said the eldest cousin, raising the ink high in his hand and preparing to throw it at Huo Miao's face.
  • Ye Manxi rushed forward at the fastest speed...
