Chapter 4
- “What’s wrong?” Jess asks, quickly taking out wipes from her bag and handing it to June
- “Are you alright?’ Fiona asks, rubbing her back gently
- June couldn’t find the right words to give to her friends, her eyes were fixed on the person who now stood in front of the class, his hair in the same way she could remember, and this time he wore glasses. She wasn’t close enough to see them, but she knew they made him look hotter.
- What was he doing to her? She thought. She wasn’t seeing things, was she? He coughs and in seconds, the whole class is silent.
- “I’ll be calling out the names of my supervisees, I would like to see you after this class,” he said and her heart sank.
- She was the only one in that major
- “Oh! Just one name” he said, flipping through the papers in front of him
- Silence again
- “June Clark” he calls, but his tone sounds more like a question
- “June” Fiona tugs
- “This is the part you respond” Jess whispers
- June didn’t think she could, he had not seen her and she wanted it to stay that way. She was already losing her mind.
- “June? June Clark?” he called again, his eyes roaming around the class, He wondered for a second if it was the June he knew
- “Here” June finally said, raising her hand
- He smiles as he recognizes her
- Her heart skips a beat for a second
- More silence
- “June. See you after class then” he says, turning back to the class
- “I’m Professor Wang Chul and I’ll be taking you on Greek mythology this year, I hope we work well together,” he says, introducing himself to the class
- “But please, I’d prefer if we went with Tae, Professor Tae” he adds, glancing at June, who still couldn’t believe what was happening.
- ####################################
- It was a one-hour class, but to June, it felt like days. After she heard his name, everything else sounded foreign in her ears. Concentrating was the hardest thing to do. All she did was stare at him, hoping his face would change into someone else or she would wake up from this dream. He had not looked at her since, yet she couldn’t stop staring
- How was he here right now? She knew it was a coincidence, but what the actual fuck! Her lecturer? She fucking had sex with him at a club yesterday, what are the odds? June couldn’t think straight, her situation was more than she could handle and her thoughts were spiraling. How was she supposed to face him after class? What was she supposed to say? She would change her supervisor. Yes! She thought, feeling proud of her conclusion
- “June”
- “Yes” She turns to Fiona who was staring at her like she was looking at a crazy person
- “What?” June asks, wondering what is going on with Fiona’s eyes. Why were they moving from side to side like that?
- “Miss June” Professor Tae calls
- “Yes” June answers, turning to him
- “How many children did Hades and Persephone have?” Professor Tae asked again
- “Two, they had two. One daughter and a son.” June answered, trying her best to avoid his gaze
- “Thank you. Maybe next time, please pay attention” Professor Tae tells her
- “Yes, yes sir. Sorry” June tells him
- “That will be all for today. See you in two days” Professor Tae says to the class of students who are now standing up and getting ready to leave
- “Miss June, my office please” he adds before turning and leaving
- June let out a long sigh, she had not realized she had been holding her breath. She knew what to do and she was going to do just that. She would walk into the office, tell him she would like to have a change of supervisor and she’ll leave. Noting more and nothing less.
- “Are you alright?” Jess asked, worried about her friend who looked cold all through the class
- “You look sick. Is something wrong?” Fiona adds
- ’I’m alright. I just need to sort something out. I’ll see you guys soon” June tells them, standing up and picking her thing.
- She had a plan and she would stick to her plan, she tells herself, mentally prepping herself for what was to come.
- ####################################
- “Close the door please,” Tae said after June had entered his office
- June took a deep breath as he spoke. She turned slowly, still telling herself about the plan and the need to stick to it. She closes the door slowly and locks it. The clicking sound of the lock brings her back to reality.
- “Fuck” she mutters, wondering why she had locked it. It was like the universe was doing everything to make her plan fail.
- She stood facing the door, too afraid to turn and face him. How was she supposed to start? Say hi first or plainly tell him she would like to switch supervisors. Which was the best approach? She could only wonder
- “Not facing me?” Tae whispered into her ear
- When had he walked to her and she didn’t notice? She turns to him, startled by the feeling of his voice in her ears. He sounded the same, June had wished he didn’t, maybe it would make her think it was a different person.
- “What are you doing here?” June asked
- It wasn’t the approach she had imagined, but it would do
- “In my office? Talking to you” Tae answered smirking
- “You know that’s not what I meant” June replies, rolling her eyes
- “What do you mean then?” He asked, now inches away from her
- His damn scent, June thought. It was him, there was no one else she knew with this scent. If it was a dream, it was a really real dream. She had dreamt of him the night before, but this was beyond a fragment of her imagination
- “You shouldn’t be this close to me Tae”
- “I thought it was Professor Tae?” he teased
- “It’s not something to joke about, you’re my professor and thesis supervisor,” June said, forgetting she was here to change that fact
- “And you’re the pretty dancer I met at the club last night, who by the way, looks great in my jacket” Tae states, his eyes moving down
- Fuck! She had to wear his bloody jacket!
