Chapter 4 Meeting Chris
- After that day, Daniella had decided to keep the baby.
- Today, Daniella, together with her two best friends, Mia and Caden, were currently in the hospital waiting for her turn for a check-up.
- They sat in the waiting area. The place was packed and swarming with people going in and out which made her very nervous.
- "Relax girl, we got you." Mia comforted her, placing an arm around Daniella's shoulders when she knew Daniella was stressed.
- Hearing the comfort from her friend brought her racing heart to a calm.
- That's right, she wasn't alone!
- She had her two best friends and they were never going to leave her alone.
- A nurse on roll call came to the middle of the waiting area. "Number 42? Patient number 42, Miss Daniella Morgan." The nurse called, searching the crowd.
- "Oh, that's me, I am number 42, Daniella Morgan!" Daniella raised her hand in the air, standing to her feet.
- "Come with me, you are up next." The nurse ticked her name off the clipboard in her hand and led the way to the doctor's office.
- The three of them both rushed after the nurse, behind her like a tail.
- This was the same hospital she came to when she first found out she was pregnant. Mr Jeff was also here, so she couldn't bring herself to go to any other hospital.
- "You can go in, the doctor will attend to you soon." The nurse opened the door for them to go in.
- "Thank you," Daniella thanked her, and in return, the nurse nodded.
- Looking for a seat in the office, Daniella observed her surroundings.
- The last time she was here, she was too preoccupied with the fact that she was pregnant to look around.
- The office was large, comfy, and warm. In a corner, behind the doctor's chair, a bed and a parting curtain made the office look more like a resting room than a check-up office.
- Potted plants made the air fresh, and surprisingly, stuffed medical toys decorated a couch that she never knew could appear in a doctor's office; making the office more relaxing.
- "This place feels more like a hotel room," Mia whispered in her ear to which she nodded.
- This place looked nothing like an office.
- Her eyes caught sight of a hanging frame by the side of the wall.
- In the picture, Mr Jeff was captured, smiling. Beside him, was a girl that appeared to be fourteen years old. They both smiled so brightly, that she felt like the picture emitted light.
- "Ah!" Mr Jeff exclaimed walking in, "Sorry to keep you waiting!"
- "No problem sir, we were enjoying the scenery," Mia answered as they watched Mr Jeff walk to his seat.
- He chuckled, "Hope I did a good job."
- "The best!" Mia replied with a grin. "This is the first time I've been to a doctor's office without feeling like I am sitting on needles and trust me, I have been to a lot of doctors."
- Daniella frowned, and she was sure she wasn't the only one with a frown as she saw the two men looking at Mia like she grew a second head.
- "Why have you been to a lot of hospitals?" Daniella questioned her, Caden, cutting in with his question.
- "And why haven't I known?" They all waited for her reply.
- "Can I not say?" Mia pleaded, but her boyfriend wasn't having it.
- "No!" He said resolutely. "The fact that you have been to a lot of doctors without my knowledge bothers me a lot. You will say it here and I don't care about the audience."
- "Well," Mia started, scratching the back of her head. "You see, I kinda don't want to get pregnant, you know?" She answered uncomfortably.
- "What?!" Caden and Daniella screamed.
- For a second, Daniella was beginning to fear for her friend, thinking that Mia had developed some kind of disease but this? This was something else entirely.
- "Calm down, it isn't a big deal," Mia said nervously looking at her boyfriend.
- "It isn't a big deal?!" Caden fumed, going to his feet. "Mia, you think this isn't a big deal?"
- "I— it wasn't what I was thinking at that time okay?"
- "Mia," Daniella called, trying to calm herself. "You mean to say, you have been visiting different hospitals? So, could you explain what you mean by not wanting to get pregnant?"
- Daniella didn't want it to be what she thought it to be. Cause if it was, she was going to blow it!
- "Have you been having abortions?" Caden asked straightforwardly, the anger in his eyes, evident.
- It was surprising he was this calm. The Caden Daniella knew would have destroyed a lot of things.
- She sent a look to Mr. Jeff, she didn't want him angry they were taking his time like this.
- "Mia answer the damn question!" Caden gritted, staring at his girlfriend with cold eyes.
- Mia flinched, tears filling her eyes. "I am sorry." She croaked with her head down.
- "Jesus, Mia." Caden ran his hand through his hair. "Fuck! How could you do this?"
- "Okay, that's enough." Mr Jeff interfered, seeing as Mia appeared uncomfortable. "You all came here for an inspection. Not for counseling and I have many people waiting for me behind the door, so please I would like for you both to continue this at home."
- He turned to Daniella. "Tell me, how do you feel?"
- She described, and for the next hour they were in Mr Jeff's office, Daniella could not pinpoint a clear word he said. The only thing that she got clear was that her baby was healthy.
- Walking out of the office and out of the hospital entirely, they were all in a daze.
- Daniella clutched the envelope in her hand. Inside it were pictures of her baby, and clutching it brought her comfort.
- From the corner of her eyes, she could see Mia, with her head down, tears still streaming down her eyes.
- Daniella didn't want to admit it, but this was the first time she was disappointed in her best friend.
- Daniella didn't want to imagine the worst but looking at Caden ahead of them, his face pale and void of emotion, she knew this loving couple wouldn't be so loving anytime soon.
- "Ugh!"
- Daniella groaned, the paper in her hand, falling to the ground. She cradled her stomach, looking up with a glare.
- Unknowingly, she had bumped into someone.
- "Are you blind—?"
- "Are you okay?—"
- They both spoke at the same time, the person who bumped into her, being a male.
- "I am so sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you, I wasn't looking at where I was going." The man said, bending to pick up the papers she had dropped.
- A glimpse at the paper, and he chuckled. "You are expecting a baby?" He looked up, "That's great."
- Daniella pursed her lips, looking around her. She didn't even know when Mia and Caden left her. She sighed, knowing now wasn't the best time to bother them.
- "Here," the man said, handing her the files.
- As he stood, Daniella eventually noticed how tall and huge the man was. "Thank you—" she said, finally looking at the man, only to be stunned. "Chris?"
- "Daniella?"
