Chapter 1 A Night Stand With A Stranger
- "Hey, beautiful!"
- A deep masculine voice sounded close to Daniella's left ear, her drunk figure swaying on the chair as she struggled to look at the person who spoke beside her.
- The modern chandelier light does nothing to help her.
- "Piss off, I'm not interested." She waved in dismissal.
- This was the fourth person this night she had waved off like this, all cussing as they called her names while they left.
- Surprisingly, this man didn't move, he only chuckled at her. "What got into your pretty pants, to get a beauty like you all pissed off."
- "It's none of your business, just leave me alone, I wanna get drunk!" She yelled, banging her fist on the counter, causing a few heads to turn over.
- Despite her yell, he didn't mind, choosing to look at her instead.
- "Yo, lady," a muscled man yelled, coming closer to the both of them. "Is this man bothering you?"
- "I don't know," was her reply. Her head was too clouded to think right now.
- "Do you want me to make him leave you alone?" The muscled man asked kindly.
- "No need, I wasn't bothering her, only wanted to ask her if she wanted a drink." This time, the man beside Daniella replied. "By the way, my name is Daniel." He introduced, stretching his hand for a shake.
- "Name's Chris." They both shook hands. "I thought you were trying to cause trouble and I couldn't have that, hope you don't mind?"
- "Well, I don't mind Chris. I am glad you came over, you wouldn't know what danger lurks nearby where a pretty drunk lady is all by herself," Daniel reassured.
- Knowing she was the culprit, aka, the pretty drunk lady, Daniella was mad. "I am not drunk, I just had a few sips, and FYI, I am not alone, I came with a friend."
- They both looked around, "where is your friend?"
- "She went to the bathroom with her boyfriend and told me to stay put," she muttered, "like I was a kid, I am a grown-ass woman, I can do whatever I want!"
- "Okay, seeing as you are all good I would have to get back to my friends," Chris said, striding off. "See you later."
- "Bye."
- She didn't even look at Chris as he left, with her head down, she shouted to the barman, "Can I get another glass?"
- "Aren't you already drunk to be getting another drink?" Daniel frowned in concern, looking at the woman swaying as she sat.
- "No!" Daniella screamed in protest. Due to being drunk, her voice was louder than usual, "I would be so happy if I could pass out right now."
- "Did something happen to make you drink so much?"
- Like a dam was opened, tears streamed from her eyes, and sobs escaped her lips.
- "Hey, hey," he hurried to her side, tentatively, hugging her. "What's wrong?"
- "It wasn't my fault!" She started, "I didn't make him cheat!"
- "Who?" Daniel asked confused.
- "My boyfriend, that bastard! I caught him cheating on me, and the only thing he had to say was that I was the cause of it, I didn't even do anything, I was on my own!"
- "Why would he say that? And who in the world, blames his girlfriend as the cause of his cheating?"
- "Only that damned Victor would!" Daniella fumed, "blaming me for not sleeping with him, and calling me a slut, but guess what, I am going to be a slut tonight! When I get my hands on a handsome man, see if I don't have a one-night stand too." She ranted, downing a glass of kiss.
- "Hold on," Daniel tried to persuade her. "He's an asshole, but it doesn't mean you should become one."
- "Don't care, two can play that game." She interrupted, standing to her feet and scanning the crowd. "I am going to have sex tonight and no one's gonna stop me."
- Daniel laughed, sitting on the chair and looking at her. When he saw her standing, he realized she was short.
- "What are you laughing at?"
- "Oh, nothing, just want to know who your lucky candidate is for the night."
- "None of your business—" she started, then she stopped, only to stare at him, with her emerald green eyes, hard.
- "What?" He asked, raising an eyebrow, with a drink in his hand.
- "Want to have a one-night stand?" She asked tilting her head.
- Hearing her question, he choked on his drink, coughing, while looking at her appalled.
- "Well, do you want to?" She inquired, but unknowingly, to her, this would have been a mistake that would cost her a lot.
- Brown eyes stared into green ones, the silence between them, only the beat of the music in the club, enough to disturb the tranquility.
- Daniel appeared to be in thought, and after a while, "why not!" He said.
- A few weeks later, in a private hospital, Daniella sat on one of the waiting chairs, biting her fingernails nervously. Who would have thought she would see herself here?
- She was here to get her test results. For the past few weeks, she had been having different symptoms. At first, she thought it was her being sick, but it wasn't until her friend, Mia, called her attention to it.
- She discovered there was a chance she was pregnant but she doesn't want to believe that.
- It wasn't possible, how could it be?
- She remembered clearly when Mia suggested it, she wanted to rip her best friend into shreds.
- How could you get pregnant from a nightstand? And that was her first time!
- No, she didn't want to believe any of this shit!
- She had just found a way to keep Victor from breaking off the engagement, and here she was, pregnant for another man.
- "Miss Daniella Morgan?" A nurse holding a clipboard called, searching the waiting room for her figure.
- "That's me!" She replied, sweat forming on her head.
- "Oh great, the doctor will see you now, your test results are out." The nurse said, handing her an envelope.
- Taking hold of the envelope with shaky hands, she walked into the doctor's office.
- "Mr Jeff?" She called, twisting the door's handle.
- "Come in Daniella, have a seat." Mr Jeff warmly welcomed her into the office.
- Mr Jeff was like a father to her. He was a family friend, and she had known him since she was five. He took her in, after the death of her father when she was eighteen and treated her as his daughter.
- "The nurse asked me to come, you wanted to see me?"
- "Yes," he started, pausing. "Have you checked the envelope to see your test result?"
- "No, I haven't. Is anything the matter, am I sick? Is it terminal?" She asked in panic, "Am I going to die?"
- "Calm down honey, you are not going to die!" He reassured softly but firmly.
- "Then what's going on?"
- "First, I would like to ask you, are you and Victor still together?" Jeff went on to say, "I know you both have been having issues so I wanted to ask."
- "Does this have anything to do with him?"
- "It might be, that's why I'm asking."
- "What if it doesn't." She insisted.
- "Then you might want to take a look at what's written in the envelope."
- "Okay." She breathed, shaking with nervousness.
- She pulled out the paper card in the envelope, completely discarding the envelope roughly.
- Her heart was pounding.
- This paper was to determine her life, her future, her everything.
- She closed her eyes, taking deep breaths against her pounding heart.
- Opening the card with her name written boldly on it, a few test records on it, and flipping to the next page, a pregnancy test was also taken but one word, pregnant, had her screaming already.
- "Positive?!"
