Chapter 3 Cancelling The Engagement

  • "Victor?" They both said, staring at the man wide-eyed.
  • Who would have thought this scumbag would come to Mia's apartment? He had gone rogue for weeks now, and seeing him, they knew something was wrong.
  • His shirt was disheveled, his hair was a huge mess, and his usually clean-shaven jaw appeared with traces of green stubble.
  • His green eyes lacked the mischievousness it once had and one could see the frustration along with depression that took its place.
  • Victor looked nothing like the man he was a few weeks back.
  • "Tell me, what's going on?" Victor's voice was gruff, his eyes red in the corners. "Who is pregnant?"
  • Daniella grew quiet, staring at the man in front of them. The more she watched him, the more her heart grew cold.
  • What had she seen in this scumbag of a man?
  • "What the hell do you think you are doing here, and how the damn did you get in?!" Her friend Mia spoke, breaking the tension in the air.
  • Mia walked in front of her, standing in between them. "Get out now, or I am going to call the cops on you!"
  • "No, I won't leave until I know what's going on!" He insisted.
  • "Do you think I am asking you to leave?" Mia stared coldly at the man. "Believe it or not, I will call the cops, and charge you with breaking, and assault." She picked up her phone on the couch.
  • Seeing she wasn't playing, he took a step back, diverting his gaze to Daniella.
  • "Ella, babe, say something, what's going on, who is pregnant!" Victor shouted in rage, his face already red.
  • "Why do you want to know?" Daniella finally spoke, ignoring how he addressed her.
  • "Why wouldn't I know?" Victor was mad, "Do you know how it feels coming in and hearing your girlfriend saying she was going to keep a pregnancy you know you weren't responsible for!"
  • "Ha!" Mia snorted, "you knew it and you still pretend! What's the use, it wouldn't give you the sympathy you want."
  • "Shut up, you!" Victor roared, "I was speaking to my girlfriend!"
  • "Don't you ever tell my friend to shut it!" Daniella snarled, pointing a finger at him. "Yes, I'm pregnant, and so what?!"
  • She nodded in confirmation, stepping from behind Mia.
  • Hearing her reply, he cussed, "F*ck!" He clenched his fists, "you cheated on me?"
  • "Cheated on you?" Daniella chuckled, "Look who's talking? How many women have you slept with? Do you think I don't know?"
  • Mia snarkily replied to her instead, "Maybe he thinks you can't do without him."
  • "Is this how you repay me?" Victor asked furiously. "By also cheating on me? I thought you were loyal!"
  • "MnMn." Daniella refuted, shaking her head and holding out a finger, "Let me make this clear to you Victor. You and I," she gestured to both of them. "We are over, done, finished, whatever you call it, we are no more, so whatever f*ck is going on with you, don't go out telling people I cheated on you 'cause we are nothing!"
  • Victor stood there, with red eyes, staring at the woman he once regarded as his girlfriend and at one point in time, his fiancee.
  • "After everything I've done for you, you say this to my face?" Victor was unconvinced, "Without me, you'd be dead!"
  • Mia exploded in place of her friend. "You shut up, you scumbag!" Her fists were clenched, "you keep repeating that sentence like you weren't paid. And so what if you gave her a kidney? Does it mean you have the right to dictate her life and death?"
  • "You know nothing!" Victor was red-faced. "If you could have, why didn't you give her your kidney!"
  • "If my kidney had matched with hers, do you think you would have the chance of being a leach?" Mia snorted, "Not everyone is as shameless as you!" She admonished him.
  • "How dare you speak to me that way?!" Victor fumed, with a red face, his fists clenched beside him.
  • "I speak the way I want to speak!" Mia chided, "It's the truth, and only the truth hurts!"
  • "Why you!" He yelled, rushing towards her. "See if I don't hit you now!"
  • "Try it and see if I don't call the cops on you, you bastard," Mia threatened, clutching the phone in her hand but he ignored her.
  • He charged at her, raising his fists for a punch.
  • "Ah!"
  • They both screamed, Mia wrapping her arms around her head, her body tense.
  • "Victor!" Daniella shouted his name when he was just a hair's breadth away from her friend.
  • Suddenly, from nowhere, Caden rushed in and shoved Victor aside.
  • They both landed heavily on a table in the living room, shattering it to pieces.
  • They both groaned, laying on the floor, Victor, bearing most of it. His face was covered in scratches, and wounds, blood oozing out of the injuries.
  • "Are you okay?" Mia and Daniella both rushed up to them, tactically ignoring Victor, and trying to help Caden up his feet.
  • "Are you hurt?" Mia asked with a frown on her face, her hands running through his clothes trying to see for any injuries.
  • Daniella stood aside, watching their interaction. "I am sorry, this is all my fault."
  • Hearing her words, they both turned to look at her at the same time. "What nonsense are you saying?" Caden replied instead.
  • "Yeah," Mia sided with her boyfriend. "What rubbish are you thinking of now?"
  • Facing the questioning eyes of her friends, Daniella bit her lips. "Well, if I hadn't had anything to do with him, maybe we wouldn't be in this position now."
  • Caden was confused, "And what position are we in?"
  • "Is it because of the broken table?" Mia asked, pointing over at the smashed table, where Victor still lay, rolling and moaning in pain. "If it's because of that, then you don't need to bother yourself, you can just buy us a new one, you have lots of money anyway."
  • "It's not because of that, Mia." Daniella looked at her best friend with a sigh. If black lines could be expressed facially, three huge dots would have appeared on her face!
  • "Then what is?"
  • "Him." She pointed at the man she now referred to as her ex-boyfriend. "I brought you both a lot of trouble over the years, and I would like to apologize," Daniella said solemnly.
  • Hearing her solemn words, they both paused. Caden, breathed a sigh of relief, closing his eyes, with his arms around his girlfriend. He chuckled, "It's nothing, friends don't leave friends when they are in their stupid seasons, instead we wait till you become smart in the next season!"
  • "Yeah" Mia cheered, "and it's a good thing you are finally smart now, we both were waiting for the day you'd wake up."
  • "Are you guys going to team up against me and bully me?" Daniella was aggrieved, her friends were fit to be a couple.
  • "Bully you?" Caden feigned hurt, holding his chest, and shaking his girlfriend to get her attention. "She says we bully her."
  • "When have we ever?" Mia faced her with a pout. "We only tell you the truth as friends, what wrong have we committed?"
  • "Oh, the agony!" Caden cried, burying his head in Mia's neck. "I never want to see you again!"
  • Blushing, Daniella stomped her feet on the ground. "Guys, stop it, It isn't funny!"
  • They both laughed at her, making her blush even more.
  • "Y—you guys are heartless!" Victor's voice cut through the happy moment.
  • They whipped their necks at him, six pairs of eyes on the wounded man who managed to stand on his feet with the support of the couch.
  • "You are still alive?" Mia sarcastically asked, "I thought you had rid us of your existence."
  • Victor gritted his teeth, his red eyes looking at Mia with so much hate, that it made one's scalp numb.
  • "You want me to gouge out your eyes?" Caden threatened, pushing his girlfriend behind him. "Look at her that way, and we'll see if you might be able to walk out here alive."
  • "Victor, leave!" Daniella instructed, pointing out the door. "You aren't welcome here."
  • "You want me to leave?" Victor appeared shocked.
  • "Are you deaf?" Daniella sparked, "If you don't leave right now, I am going to ask Caden to throw you out, and believe me when I tell you, it wouldn't be good for you."
  • "Fine!" Victor gritted, "But I will leave only on one condition."
  • "Are you dumb?" Mia asked from behind her boyfriend's huge body, "She asked you to leave. In what position do you think you are, to demand a condition?"
  • Daniella was also speechless. How come, in all her years dating this man, she never discovered how much of a bastard he was?!
  • "That's it!" Daniella grew furious, "get out!" She walked to him, not caring if he appeared to have broken a bone, and shoved him. "Get out now!"
  • He stumbled, "If you do this, I won't get engaged to you anymore, I'd cancel it!"
  • "Go ahead scumbag; that threat won't work on me!" Daniella fumed, "Not now, not ever again!"
  • She pushed him to the door which was held wide open by Mia. Lacking enough strength to push him out, Caden took over. With a push, he watched Victor land on the porch.
  • "You will regret this!" Victor hissed, "I will make you suffer for it, watch me!"
  • "You can't do nothing!" Daniella interjected, "I am sure the reason why you are here is to ask me to pay back the loan, but unfortunately for you, I won't be your money bag anymore! Go find someone else you can stick to, might as well hook up with the neighbor she looked rich don't you think?"
  • "Good one girl!" Mia high-fived her, and they watched as Victor picked himself up, limping to his car.
  • "He looks like a refugee. How weird it looks to see him driving such an expensive car!" Caden muttered under his breath.
  • "You are just jealous you don't have a car as flashy as that!" Mia snorted, heading into the house.
  • Caden yelled, jogging in after them, and closing the door. "Come on, owning a flashy car is every man's dream!"
  • "Liar!"
