Chapter 9 You’re So Sweet Today
- “W-Why are you here?” Flustered, Lara attempted to cover herself with something, only to find that she had gotten dressed. Overwhelmed with embarrassment, she stood in place, her face blushing as she glared at Damian with a frown. This is his home, so it seems there’s nothing wrong with him being here, she thought while sorting out her feelings of embarrassment. I was just being looked at; it’s not like he mutilated or skinned me alive with his eyes. I won’t die from that, anyway.
- Hesitantly, she stepped toward the door, where Damian was standing. As soon as she walked up to him, he swept her into his arms. Just as the startled Lara was about to struggle, he suddenly bore down on her and buried his head in her neck. After taking a slight sniff, he said in a deep and husky voice, “You smell so good. Come to my room tonight!” What he meant couldn’t be more obvious. After leaning over and kissing her on the lips, he let go of her and stepped back in satisfaction.
- Lara’s body tensed up subconsciously when Damian kissed her. Luckily, he backed away after merely kissing her. Despite her feelings of repulsion, she nodded slightly without affected bashfulness, for she now had to look to him for help.
- The next morning, Lara was awakened by the ringing of her cell phone. She grabbed the phone and glanced at its screen; it was a call from an unfamiliar number. “Are you Lara Sullivan? This is the court. Have you seen the document informing you of the hearing this afternoon?”
- Lara was dumbfounded for a moment before she recalled the paper Kevin had tossed at her yesterday. How stupid of me to forget to check the time of the hearing! she thought. She hastily got up and called Damian. “Today’s my court hearing. How are you gonna help me?” She voiced her worries right away without the slightest hesitation.
- “Just wait at home for a moment. I’m in the middle of a meeting right now,” Damian replied before hanging up.
- Lara hurried downstairs. When she saw Colette, she merely threw her a casual glance, paying no heed to the burning jealousy in Colette’s eyes when she saw the hickey on her neck.
- Lara waited at Olmian Court for Damian, but someone else came instead. It was Sean Watson, the top attorney in Oaksworth. “I’ve read the information about your case. Please rest assured, for I’ll attend the court hearing with you tomorrow afternoon,” he said smilingly, with a touch of politeness and aloofness.
- Lara was half relieved when she saw Sean, for she had heard of his name in Oaksworth before. With his help, it shouldn’t be difficult for her to get all her property back.
- When Damian came home that evening, Lara trotted up to him and took the suit jacket he was holding with a smile. Then, she bent down and took out his slippers for him.
- Damian paused as his eyes fell on Lara’s bending figure with a deep and meaningful look. Then, he lifted his foot and let her change his shoes for him. She has no idea that what she’s doing right now looks very much like what a wife would do for her husband when he comes home from work, he thought. His lips curved up for a second before he turned to look at her and said in a cold voice, “Why are you doing this? There are servants at home.”
- Lara replied, “It’s okay. I ought to do these for you. I’m now living here, anyway, so I’m a part of this family.” As she was in high spirits today, she seemed not to care about how suggestive her words might sound to a man.
- When Damian sat down on the sofa, Lara brought the brewed black tea to him.
- Damian’s black eyes flickered slightly as his gaze fell on her again.
- Lara smiled with joy. “I asked the servants, and they said you’d drink a cup of black tea every day when you come home. I made a special effort to make this after you finished work, so now’s the right time to drink it. Have a taste and see if it’s the flavor you’re used to,” she said with a flattering smile. Seeing that Damian lowered his head and took a sip of the tea, she continued shyly, “Thanks for hiring Mr. Watson for me. He said I have a good chance of winning the case, and he’ll attend the court hearing with me tomorrow.”
- “Well, you can rest assured now that Sean’s representing you.” Damian finished the black tea before putting down the teacup. Then, he grabbed Lara’s wrist and pulled her into his arms.
- Lara froze subconsciously as she sat on the man’s lap. She tried to get up, but Damian held her down. When she felt a moist, warm, and itching touch on her ear, her whole body tensed up at once. Her face turned red without her realizing it as she nervously clutched the white shirt on his chest while looking up at him with a pair of bright, beautiful, and innocent eyes.
- “You’re so sweet today. How should I reward you, hmm?”
