Chapter 60 Isabel Bellini

  • Roxanne was bundled off the island like a bad dream, along with her little son a few days later. She was whisked away from the hospital to the cottage, to pick up whatever basic necessities she required and then, put on a plane.
  • All this was done under the supervision of a large, muscular man who introduced himself as a member of Van Dyke’s staff. Everything was done swiftly and she noticed a few men with guns who hovered around them as they picked up their meagre belongings and were deposited on the small chartered plane. She had not had time to bid a proper farewell to old Beulah, who had not returned to the island, but Madame Luna Rhyme had been vitriolic.
  • “The apple does not fall far from the tree…Like your mother, eh Roxanne?” she had sneered and the young girl had reeled back, wide-eyed. The Gullah woman had never let on that she knew Roxanne’s mother and this had come as a shock to Roxanne.
