Chapter 14 Cue Tragedy
- Felix's realization that Caio would fall into peril immediately spurred him into action.
- Honestly, if he were anyone else, Felix wouldn't have bothered. However, the fact remained that he was Brayden's good friend. So, Felix felt compelled to step in.
- Felix left Brayden's car and darted toward Caio's vehicle, preventing it from pulling away.
- "Mr. Cohen, is there something else you need?" Caio inquired, lowering his car window to address Felix's unexpected and somewhat unwelcome arrival.
- "I know it sounds incredulous, but I do have some skills under my belt. I had a premonition that you'll be in danger, specifically a car accident. It would be wise for you to avoid making any unnecessary trips today," Felix explained.
- Caio's expression darkened upon hearing Felix's warning. This time, he didn't bother hiding his displeasure and contempt toward Felix.
- He had initially assumed that Felix had stopped him for a different reason. So, he was taken aback to hear Felix making such ridiculous claims.
- This incident only deepened his disdain for Felix.
- He quickly concluded that Felix was merely seeking to ingratiate himself. He also assumed that Felix was merely trying to swindle him for his money. It was a tactic often used by those trying to exploit individuals from wealthy backgrounds.
- Sadly, for Felix, he wasn't about to compromise his own principles even if the man had earned Brayden's high esteem. He was of the opinion that geomancy and the like were merely fraudulent practices that good-for-nothings learned to scam people out of their hard-earned cash.
- "I'm sorry, but I don't put any faith in such things," Caio declared, barely concealing his irritation out of respect for Brayden.
- With that, his window slid shut, preventing any further discussion on the matter.
- Felix sighed in resignation upon realizing Caio's skepticism and distrust toward him and his skills.
- Nonetheless, Felix had already come to accept that people would regard him with suspicion if he ever divulged such things to them. Besides, he had done his good deed for the day by warning the man. "Mr. Cohen, are you skilled in fortune-telling?" Brayden inquired, intrigued by Felix's abilities.
- "I dabble," Felix replied modestly.
- "Do you truly believe that Caio will be in danger?" Brayden pressed for clarification.
- "It's a possibility," Felix responded before returning to Brayden's car.
- Although Brayden desperately wanted to urge Caio to be cautious, he also refrained from doing so. He was more than aware of Caio's skepticism toward such matters.
- Brayden led Felix to Hamiltons' Herbal Remedies 30 minutes later. The apothecary was nestled on the outskirts of Riverford.
- This establishment was owned by Brayden's uncle and boasted the title of the largest supplier of traditional medicinal products in the region. It seemed that it was one of the major suppliers for numerous hospitals.
- Meanwhile, a tragedy had unfolded at a traffic light intersection west of Riverford.
- As Caio's car halted at a red light, a fully loaded dump truck hurtled toward him at a staggering speed of at least eighty miles per hour.
- The resulting impact was thunderous, sending Caio's Mercedes somersaulting across the air upon collision.
- Unfortunately, Caio had been tossed out of the vehicle like a ragdoll as he had failed to wear his seatbelt. In the end, he crash-landed against the pavement with a wet thud.
- …
- On the other hand, Felix and Brayden had just arrived at the apothecary's entrance.
- A middle-aged man immediately welcomed them warmly as he regarded Felix with a shrewd eye. This man was none other than Brayden's uncle, Alex Hamilton.
- "Ah, Brayden, you're here! Is this the master you mentioned?" Alex inquired, casting a curious glance at Felix.
- "Felix Cohen," Felix introduced himself calmly as he shook hands with Alex.
- Felix looked inscrutable due to his poker face.
- "Uncle, Mr. Cohen requires some herbs. So, here we are," Brayden explained.
- "We've just received a fresh batch today. You're more than welcome to browse our stock, Master Cohen," Alex replied.
- The men chatted during their journey toward the apothecary's warehouse.
