Chapter 12 Disdain

  • Nolan turned to Brayden for redress the second he realized that there was no point discussing this with Fred.
  • "Dude, this was all a mix-up. Still, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law were unjustly attacked. You will compensate us!"
  • Swish!
  • Brayden's intense gaze shifted immediately to him.
  • "And you are? Who are you to order me about? Do I look like a spineless yes-man?!"
  • Just one glance from Brayden sent shivers down Nolan's spine.
  • Nolan felt pressured just being in the same room with this Mr. Hamilton before him. The man was exuding an aura typical of those from prominent families.
  • "Mr. Hamilton, this mess started because these rabble-rousers claimed Master Cohen was mooching off the hotel. I was only here to get to the bottom of this issue!" Fred butted in, shifting the blame onto Nolan and his posse.
  • "I see. So, it's your doing!" Brayden's simmering fury flared up anew.
  • He couldn't believe that the esteemed doctor, whom he respected highly, was being accused of being a parasite.
  • What even the f*ck is this?!
  • The enraged Brayden looked as though he was just one step away from exploding at Nolan and the others.
  • Alas, Felix stepped in before he could vent his wrath at those ignorant fools.
  • "Enough. Just chase them out!"
  • Brayden clenched his teeth and begrudgingly turned away from those he deemed unworthy. Then, he haughtily commanded Fred, "Get these riffraffs out of here! You'd better make sure they're banned from this establishment. Otherwise, you can pack your bags and join them!"
  • "Yes, I understand!" Fred nodded vigorously.
  • A few minutes later, Fred and a troupe of security guards roughly evicted Nolan and the Wither Family's mother and daughters from the hotel.
  • The humiliated bunch scrambled to their feet, hastily dusted themselves off, swiftly climbed into their car, and sped away.
  • Today was nothing but an experience of humiliation and pain.
  • Fiona shot a disapproving glare at Nolan as they left Harmonia Hotel's parking lot. Her displeasure was as clear as day through the rearview window.
  • "Nolan, you boasted about your family's standing in Riddlesford. Why couldn't you even handle a minor hiccup at a measly hotel today?"
  • "Yeah, Nolan. Look at what that manager did to my face!" Elizabeth chimed in, equally upset.
  • Their plans for a pleasant meal and some brag-worthy snapshots had gone completely awry.
  • Nolan's expression darkened at the reminder.
  • Thankfully, Charlotte stepped in to ease the tension before another fight could break out.
  • "Mom, Elizabeth, did you know the Solari Family owns this hotel? They're an affluent family in Cubrus. Therefore, they have considerable sway in Riverford? Nolan's family is based in Riddlesford. Besides, we're nobodies in Riverford. To make matters worse, we're on their home turf right now. So, we have zero advantages to our deck. Even if Nolan had sorted things out, we'd have offended the Solari Family for our audacity. I'll be starting work at the family's firm tomorrow. If we cross the Solari Family right now, it will only bring calamity for the Withers Family."
  • Nolan nodded vigorously. "She's right, Mom. I was only acting in Charlotte and the Withers Family's best interests by avoiding a showdown with those folks. Mom, I promise you and Elizabeth will receive the justice you deserve."
  • Fiona, who was never known for her brains, immediately understood the gravity of the situation after listening to Charlotte's analysis.
  • Nonetheless, she still harbored some resentment. In the end, she chose to lay all the blame on Felix.
  • "This whole mess is because of that foolish Felix. It's ridiculous! When did this useless Felix, this wretched little rat, rub elbows with someone as mighty as that hotel owner? Plus, he was even referred to as 'Master Cohen'!"
  • "Hmph, that roach had to have hoodwinked the Solari Family somehow!" Charlotte commented scornfully.
  • She had lived with Felix for two whole years. So, she naturally knew his true colors.
  • He was nothing but a worthless man.
  • "Don't worry. I'll thoroughly investigate this matter. I'll seek retribution for this injustice!" Nolan vowed solemnly.
  • Suffice it to say, none of them felt any gratitude toward Felix for speaking up and ensuring their safe departure from the hotel today.
  • Instead, they believed they had been humiliated solely because of Felix.
  • As a result, their resentment toward him only continued to fester.
