Chapter 40 Didn’t Sleep a Wink
- Carson only returned to the bedroom when it was almost dawn. Stealthily tiptoeing to the side of the bed like a thief, he gently lifted the covers and slipped into bed. After lying down, he fell asleep in no time, perchance due to his weariness.
- While listening to his snores, I gritted my teeth in resentment, gripped by the urge to get out of bed and stab this heartless rat b*stard to death. Sanity, however, reminded me that I couldn’t do so. The best way to make a person suffer is not by consigning him to death, but by keeping him alive to suffer. I’d be letting him off too easily if I were to stab him to death now.
- That night, I didn’t sleep a wink. When I got out of bed in the morning, I hurriedly left with Keira. Probably having expended too much energy last night, Carson was still sleeping when I left. After sending Keira to school, I went to the office. Sitting in the office, I just couldn’t focus on my work, my mind filled with those filthy and obscene words I’d overheard last night.
