Chapter 27 Cunning
- Then, it was Carson who came in. His expression turned forbidding when he saw the food and glass fragments scattered on the floor as well as my pathetic condition, covered in food. “Victoria, please clean up the floor. Honey, you’re all dirty, so why don’t we go and get changed?”
- Jolene came as well, but she didn’t enter the room. Rather, she stood at the door and peered in. It was blatantly obvious that she was elated upon seeing me splattered with food and looking utterly wretched, for I glimpsed a glimmer of joy flashing across her eyes. In the next instance, however, intense worry was written all over her face. Naturally, she wasn’t worried about me. Rather, she was worried for herself. She was a smart person, so she knew that since she was the mistress, my mother-in-law would be even worse with her considering her treatment of me, her legal daughter-in-law, despite depending on me for her livelihood. From my understanding of her, she must be coming up with a countermeasure now.
- My mother-in-law’s behavior infuriated Carson greatly, and he whisked me away after coming in without saying a single word to her. Now, my guess was that she must be inwardly so peeved that steam was coming out of her ears, but no matter how cheesed out she was, she couldn’t vent when no one bothered with her.
