Chapter 2. Without Pain
- He remained motionless for a moment, without stopping to observe the unconscious girl, she was beautiful, she had the appearance of an angel, when he reacted he could not help but caress her face with his fingertips, he felt a kind of current flowing between them, he saw a red liquid running down her forehead, she had been injured in the collision. For a moment he had mixed feelings, one part of him wanted to get away from her like someone fleeing from the plague, just remembering whose daughter she was gave him a deep disgust, his stomach churned with disgust, rage stirred within him, the other part, he wanted to care for her and protect her, he shook his head in confusion What the hell do I care about this girl? I should only care about her for my plans to use her against her bastard of a father, nothing else, he said to himself.
- He let go of her, dropping her on the seat like a lifeless doll without any consideration, but he didn't expect that move to provoke her reaction, he immediately saw her open her eyes and look at him with those intense blue eyes, she gave the impression she was probing him to the depths of his soul, she half opened her lips, running her tongue over them in a gesture that seemed sensual to him, then she began to utter incoherent words.
- “I'm dead, I'm in heaven, I have an angel in front of me,” she said as he saw the beautiful blue-eyed man, tall, muscular, with a well-groomed beard and brown hair, his imposing presence intensified by the reflection of the bright rays of the sun, the same one he had seen in the morning hours.
- Christian started to leave, but she grabbed his arm and stopped him. The man did not like physical contact from strangers, he wanted to pull his hand away, but he saw her so vulnerable that he finally allowed it. Besides, he was curious to feel again that kind of electric current where she touched his skin, which seconds later spread throughout his body until it settled in a specific point of his anatomy.
- She was still talking incoherently, and he couldn't help but rebuke her.
- “Shut up! Why are you saying so many stupid things? Did the slap on the forehead make you crazy or were you already crazy?” he spat with a disdainful gesture. “Hold still. I'm going to call for help.”
- He tried to pull away a second time, but she tightened her grip even more, as if she didn't want to let him go.
- “Please don't go! Don't leave me alone...I'm tired and dizzy,” she paused as her face grew even paler. “Come with me until they come for me. I'm so afraid of being left alone, I don't like loneliness,” the girl pleaded with a gesture of torment in her eyes.
- She could not help remembering all those times when she was sick and there was no one to take care of her, because her father never wanted to take care of her, and would not even allow a nanny or a lady on duty to take care of her, she did not know what it was to have a loving father, she was not given that joy, He had always been lazy and unkind to her, he had never given her the slightest hint of love, everything was for Lynnet, she was the renegade daughter whom she did not forgive for having been responsible for the accident in which her mother died, an intense pain invaded her, tears welled up in her eyes, her body began to tremble.
- “I didn't mean it! I don't remember. I'm not a bad girl, am I?” she said as if talking to someone, in a tone of voice.
- Christian listened to her, he frowned, but he didn't have the slightest interest in getting involved with her, he didn't want to be sensitized to her suffering, he didn't even have any interest in staying, Why should I? he asked himself, feeling irritated, he didn't care about Jonah's daughter, from his side he would never find any comfort, so he was annoyed by her request and in a despot tone he added.
- “I'm not your nanny to take care of you, let go of me!” he roughly pushed her away and threw her back on the seat, with this gesture he made her hit, the girl uttered a moan of pain, which the man ignored, he immediately went to call the emergency services.
- As soon as he ended the call, he received another one, frowning with a bit of confusion as he saw Sally's name on the screen of his latest-generation cell phone.
- His heart skipped a beat with emotion, she was the most important woman in his life, for a while he was attracted by her extraordinary beauty, but since his only goal in life had been revenge, he rejected her, she ended up married to his best friend who was traveling at that time and had assigned him to take care of her, to protect her while he was away, so without wasting any time, he answered the call.
- “Sally!” he exclaimed, not hiding his tone of concern, only to have his ear immediately invaded by the woman's sweet voice.
- “Oh, Christian!” she exclaimed in a tone of regret. “I'm so sorry to bother you, I swear if it wasn't an emergency, I wouldn't have done it, I'm ashamed because I know you're a very busy man, pending so many things and me burdening you with mine, but now you're all I have.”
- “Don't worry Sally, I will always be there for you if you need me. Tell me how I can help you?” she asked, trying to control her racing heartbeat.
- “I had a terrible accident, I fell down the stairs and hit myself hard, I need urgent medical attention. I feel very bad, I have no one else to turn to, my husband is not here, I can only count on you. Please come,” the woman on the other end of the line pleaded in a distressed tone.
- Hearing her in that tone of voice, as if she was in deep pain, awakened a spark of concern in him, but for a few seconds a glimmer of doubt crossed his mind, he turned to see the girl bleeding on the seat, the ambulance had not arrived, but his priority was Sally, he considered her his family, without hesitation he answered her in a reassuring tone.
- “Don't worry honey, give me ten minutes and I'll be right there,” he replied, cutting her off.
- He heard the girl in the car call him back.
- “Please don't leave me, could you stay with me? Until the ambulance arrives,” the girl's tone was one of anguish, but he hardened his heart, refusing to perceive any feeling of kindness for her, he cared little for her suffering, so he ignored her pain.
- “I am sorry, but I cannot stay with you. I have unavoidable obligations, and they are more important than staying at the side of a stranger. Besides, you deserve what happened, because you ran the red light, you were negligent. Now you're not only hurt, but you're going to have to pay for the damage to my car, and I don't think you're going to get away with it. I will send my lawyers to the hospital, I will also give you the card in case you leave before they go, once you are taken care of, continue to call.”
- He would have no mercy on her.
- “I warn you, you better not try to shirk your responsibility, because if you do, I swear you will suffer the consequences of your omission, I am not a tolerant man.” When he saw the blood running down her face in larger quantities, he quickly pulled a handkerchief out of his trousers and held it out to her. “Here, put this on the wound to prevent further bleeding, keep pressure on it,” he said, and then with hurried steps, without looking back, he walked away, leaving her all alone.
- Meanwhile, the girl smelled the handkerchief and caressed the initials on it, CGJ, she sighed with illusion, she never thought she knew a walking prince as they were described in the children's stories told by her mother, she sighed with illusion, but immediately an intense headache came over her, an intense headache that followed her until she lost consciousness again, plunging her into the deepest darkness, to the same place she often went, not wanting to come out, but wanting to stay there forever, where she felt no pain, neither physical nor mental.
- There is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish the light of one small candle. Robert Alden.
