Chapter 4 Emily Harris

  • Emily Harris
  • When I looked towards the elevator, I saw that the two of them were actually waiting for me. I feel myself starting to get nervous since we'll be outside of the work environment. I would give anything for Emma to be here with me tonight.
  • "Hey, Emma, I'm going out with Mr. Walker and Mike. Can we postpone our outing to tomorrow?" I speak to her almost whispering so they don't notice.
  • "You sneaky girl, going out with the handsome guy on your first day of work?" I hear her practically shouting on the phone.
  • "Emily?" I look towards Mike who called me, I just raise an eyebrow. "Is she your friend?"
  • I narrow my eyes at him, nod my head, and observe his smile fading, but I understand what he wants. He starts gesturing for me to invite her, and I look at Mr. Walker who just shrugs, not interested in the conversation.
  • "Emma? What do you think about meeting me at the restaurant near the company?" I look at Mike who seems eager for the answer.
  • "Will the hottie Mike be there?" I try to appear nonchalant so he doesn't realize that she's interested too.
  • "Well, I believe so. We can leave from there and go wherever you need to go. Say you'll come, please, I'll do what you love!" I'm not naïve and of course, I'll let them know that I enjoy cooking.
  • In the end, I give her the address as soon as the elevator doors open to the building lobby and tell Mike that she's coming.
  • "Mike, please, don't play with her feelings. Emma may be a bit electric, but she has a heart of gold. If you hurt her, I'll throw you out the window." I know I shouldn't trust a man I just met like this, but Emma is my best friend and I don't want to see her suffer because of another relationship like she did with her ex.
  • As soon as we step out of the elevator, they lead me to the parking lot on the lower floor, and I notice Walker approaching from behind me while Mike heads towards his own car.
  • "I didn't ask you, but did you come by car?" His voice is deep and extremely sensual, and I'm mesmerized by his blue eyes, the shape of his mouth which seems inviting. He gives a small cough and I redirect my attention to his question.
  • "I don't have a car, I came by taxi." He simply nods, puts his hand on the small of my back, and leads me to his car.
  • We stood in front of a very beautiful black sports car, I noticed that he had dismissed the driver for the day and opened the door for me to get in, I was impressed with the car, I watched him walk around the car and get in, he unbuttons his suit and sits next to me.
  • I keep my gaze on him, who seems to notice my interest, a shameless smile appears on his perfect face, I see him getting closer to me and looking into my eyes.
  • "If you keep looking at me like this, we'll have a serious problem here, so don't look at me like you're almost begging me to take you to bed," he says. What a jerk, a bastard, attractive, but still a jerk and a bastard.
  • "And who said I want to go to bed with you, Mr. Walker?" He adjusts himself in his seat and starts the car.
  • "Your body is telling me, Miss Harris, and I think if we're going to work together, we should at least call each other by our first names, what do you think?" I realize that he prefers to change the subject, so I turn my body towards him and extend my hand to him.
  • "Emily, nice to meet you," I give him my best innocent smile, which he returns.
  • "Noah, the pleasure is all mine..." I know what he said has a double meaning, but I'm not going to give him any advantage.
  • He starts the car and we head into the heavy traffic due to the time we're leaving, my phone starts ringing and I see Emily's name on the screen and I answer it.
  • "We're almost there, the traffic is heavy, I believe Mike is already there, wait for us..." Noah's hand comes to my thigh and I freeze with his touch and turn to him, who just smiles and removes his hand.
  • "Tell her to give my name to the hostess and she'll accommodate her at our table," he says. I continue to look at him without reacting, feeling my heart pumping uncontrollably and my breathing starting to accelerate.
  • Not to mention the heat I'm feeling in my cheeks and neck, I only hear Emma saying that she heard and that she'll wait for us to sit down, and she hangs up the call. I continue to look at him, who tries to maintain eye contact with me even though he's driving, and in the end, he manages to park on the shoulder.
  • He turns off the car and turns towards me, and I see the decision made in his eyes.
  • "I know that when we met, there was a tension between us, and that's new to me, Emily. I'm not good at this stuff and I don't want to have a headache with a relationship while we're working," he says. I simply nod my head.
  • "If you agree, let it be just sex, and nothing more than that, I would love to take you to my apartment," he says with some insecurity, but I can't think about that now, my friend is waiting for us.
  • "Noah, as tempting as your offer may be, my friend is waiting for us, maybe it's better to go to the restaurant."
  • He starts laughing and drives the car back into traffic, and even before getting out of the car, he catches my attention.
  • "Think about what I offered you, I don't think you'll regret it," he says. I remain silent because I simply don't know what to say.
  • "I promise I will think about it," that's all I say before he helps me out of the car and we go to the restaurant where our friends must be waiting for us.
