Chapter 3 Emily Harris
- Emily Harris
- As soon as I leave the building after the interview, I hop into the first taxi I see and feel a little safer. I can't explain why, but those CEO's looks made me feel a bit insecure. I didn't know what he wanted from me.
- While I was busy with the ingredients for our dinner, I heard an excited Emma coming in, and I noticed that she put her bags on the couch and had a bottle of champagne in her hands with a bow. I look at her without understanding the reason.
- "It's to celebrate your admission to Noah Walker's team," she says. I raise an eyebrow and shake my head.
- "I believe he won't hire me, Emma," I lower my head and pay attention to what I'm doing, and I know she expects me to tell her what happened. "He made it clear that he wants an employee, in the masculine form, and someone who lives for the internship." I sigh defeated, but she has a strange look on her face.
- "Really? I thought you would be hired because I heard Mike talking to HR's assistant that you impressed Mr. Walker a lot," she sits on the counter in front of me and puts the champagne aside.
- "But I want to talk about something else," I look at the mischievous friend I have and I can already imagine what she has in mind. I drop everything and give her the attention I know she wants.
- "Oh my, that Mike is so handsome. I've never been so close to him before," she fans herself with a napkin and I start laughing at her performance.
- "He's not all that, but that CEO, he looks like he was sculpted by God. Handsome man, that one," we start another wave of laughter.
- The next morning, I woke up early and checked my email.
- From: HR Walker Corporation
- "We would like to inform you that you have been approved for the administration internship position. Please come to the company for admission purposes in the morning."
- "Sincerely, HR."
- I can't believe what I'm reading. I sit on the couch, disbelieving the news and, at the same time, happy for succeeding. It's a victory that I needed. I breathe a sigh of relief and feel so happy.
- In less than an hour, I was walking through the doors of Mr. Walker's grand empire, now my boss.
- "It looks like going upstairs worked out for you. Congratulations and welcome to the team." I look at the lady at the reception affectionately and whisper a thank you. She points me in the right direction and I follow her instructions.
- I step out of the elevator and face a glass door with a huge sign that says "Human Resources." I step outside with my right foot, hoping that everything goes as smoothly as possible.
- A middle-aged woman greets me, and when I identify myself, her smile becomes even bigger."
- "I thought I would have to call you again, I sent you an email yesterday as soon as you left Mr. Walker's office," she tells me.
- "It means that I really made a good impression," I reply, surprised by the information.
- "Sorry, I was a bit skeptical yesterday, so I didn't even pay attention to the notifications, and today I had some errands to run," she starts laughing.
- "You're Emma's friend, right?" I nod. "She came by this morning and did everything she could to find out if she would be hired, and I told her I was waiting for you to do your admission."
- That's why I love that girl, she finishes all the procedures and sends me to where I will work, and to my surprise, it's on the top floor next to the CEO's office. She introduced me to everyone who was available, and since my new boss was in a meeting, I sat in my office waiting to find out what he really needed me to do.
- After looking at some documents on my desk, I sort them by urgency. While I was analyzing them, I was startled by a presence in front of me and I raised my gaze to that man who was very focused on me.
- "I thought I would have to send a smoke signal since you weren't responding to HR," he says, his voice deep. I can tell he liked seeing me there. "Leave that there and come to my office."
- I do as he asks and leave the room following him. He holds the door for me to enter and closes it as soon as he enters.
- I sit in the chair facing his, and he looks at me so intensely that my only reaction is to cross my legs while I wait for him to say what he wants.
- "I'm glad you agreed to join the team. As I explained to you yesterday, you will work directly with me and Mike..." I hear his explanation, but the only thing I can assimilate is when he says that I always need to give him exclusive attention.
- He has a somewhat mischievous smile, and we are interrupted by his secretary, saying that a woman is on the line. I took the opportunity and asked for permission to do what he explained, what he wanted with the documents on my desk.
- I return to my office and stop to think about how I will work with this man who seems to attract me, but I can't afford that luxury, not now that I have achieved something so good.
- Even before I can concentrate, Mike visits me, entering with a box of chocolates wrapped in a red ribbon.
- "I'll give it to you if you give me the number of that woman who came with you yesterday," he says. I narrow my eyes at him and reach out to take the box that has a card. "The number first."
- I start laughing at him, take a small piece of paper, write something, and extend my hand.
- "It's not fair, I gave you the box," he complains. I smile at him and shake the card I have in my hand.
- "But you would have to give me the box anyway," I reply, while I only wrote down the department she was in.
- He huffs, and before he leaves my office, I speak to him.
- "If she allows it, I'll give you her number tomorrow, what do you think?"
- A smile appears on his face, and now, yes, he leaves, and I focus on everything I have to do. When I'm close to finishing, I notice that my boss and Mike enter my office.
- "How about going to a restaurant to celebrate your admission?" I accept, why not? I need to get to know the two of them.
- " Alright, I'll meet you guys in the elevator."
- Now, let's go face the unknown with this CEO who seems to want to know every secret of mine.
