• The tension in the room makes it so hard for me to breathe. I’m standing in front of the Wolf Council, and Zane is sitting with them too. All their angry gazes are tearing me apart because Dad escaped from the Fortress. This was all thanks to Cyprian and Cassandra, who helped me. They set the fire in the library as a distraction. We needed something important enough to the wolf clan to divert their attention just long enough for Cyprian to sneak Dad out of the Fortress and meet Francis, who was parked at a safe distance from the main gate. I don’t know how Cyprian managed to pull it off while I was in the library with Cassandra and still came back in time to cover it up. I’m grateful to him for getting Dad out—and to Cassandra too.
• The door opens, and Cole, the guard at Dad’s cell whom Cyprian knocked out, walks in.
