• “I’m right here.” I step out the door, holding back the tears that want to spill. Here he is, threatening to hurt us, and I feel powerless to stop him. His eyes meet mine, and my heart skips a beat—I don’t know why. My pulse quickens, like I’ve just met the man of my dreams. Our gazes lock, and I don’t even realize I’ve been walking until I’m inches away from him.
