• Katarina bangs on the door as I walk away. “Please, Zane, please don’t leave me out here!” Her voice cracks as she pounds on the door.
• I force myself to ignore her. I’m not going to let her fake cries get to me or make me let her in. Letting her in would only lead to more defiance. She needs to learn her place.
