Chapter 9 Nine

  • Melissa (Gabriella's POV)
  • I sat still while they discussed what fate would befall me. Startled, when the man he called Kirk came to the gate with Frin. The alpha walked away, leaving those men with me, a huge aura pouring from Kirk’s body.
  • “You heard what he said,” Frin said as he entered the cell, jiggling keys following his hands as he walked to where they locked the chains.
  • “I’d prefer if she died than check for things that would say the same thing I’ve already said,” Kirk said as he leaned on the bars of my cell.
  • “You can only do as the Alpha said. You can’t take matters into your hands when he has decided something already,” Frin said as the chains clattered to the floor before he moved towards me, unlocking the chain and leaving the cuff on my wrist. Kirk scoffed as he opened the gate with Frin lifting me to my feet.
  • “You didn’t need to lie to him about remembering anything,” Lyra said as they led me out of the dungeon. Frin took the front while Kirk remained at the back. It could be because of his distrust of me.
  • “I panicked, and that was the first that came to mind,” I said to myself while Frin looked at me like he noticed something, but kept it to himself. “Where are you taking me to?” I asked as we walked out of the cell. Another guard in front of the main gate opened it while I trailed behind Frin.
  • “My alpha wants to glean more information from you. As you said, you’ve forgotten everything about yourself. Which is one thing I’d preferred he killed you instead, but let’s see how this goes,” Kirk said as we stepped out of the dungeon.
  • It felt heavenly as I didn’t think I would see another sunrise with the threat hanging over my head at Silver Rose Pack after Alfredo set me up and was wrongly accused by the Luna.
  • “You should call the alpha,” Frin said to Kirk as we stopped at an intersection.
  • “Why should I?”
  • “You could kill her in a fit of rage, so you do it,” Frin countered as he turned towards his counterpart. The gigantic man scowled for a while before sulking away, muttering as he walked in the opposite direction towards a mansion that stood not quite far away.
  • “Let’s see how far your lies can take us,” Lyra said to me. I could feel her apprehension concerning the events about to be set in motion.
  • “I heard you talking to yourself when I took off your chains,” Frin said as he moved closer to me, the wind blowing between us as if it planned to conceal our discussion.
  • “I thought I heard something talking to me, and I didn’t want you to take me as crazy with the additional threats,” I said, looking him in the eyes.
  • He nodded as he pulled away, standing straight with his eyes focused on me like he expected me to run.
  • Alpha Farrell came a moment after with Kirk. Another person followed behind them, standing like a guard with glasses on his face. Brown hair and a prominent chin that made him look like royalty in a pair of suits.
  • Frin gave a nod before we set out to the seer’s place. Eyes followed us, seeking who could make their alpha come out with a look of seriousness on his face. I stood in the middle of the entourage as we walked on, grateful that I could see one more day outside after moving from one dungeon to another.
  • We stopped after what seemed like a thirty-minute walk in front of a house painted white, even to the roof. It gave off a fragrant smell that exuded from the variety of plants grown outside, ranging from herbs to trees.
  • “Wait here,” Alpha Farrell said as he moved towards the door.
  • “I know you are here,” a feminine voice sounded from the inside before his hand would come in contact with the door. The door opened to reveal a pretty face decked with powder to smoothen her looks, and black, silky hair that cascaded to her waistline. She was beautiful in a sense that pointed a warning not to take her for granted.
  • “It doesn’t mean you wouldn’t let us in,” Alpha Farrell said to her even as she looked over his shoulders to stare at me.
  • “Come on inside,” she said as she waved her hands towards us. It felt strange as she entered the house without a sound from her feet.
  • Alpha Farrell tilted his head to follow him inside. Frin stepped in with Kirk, pushing me inside the house. The room smelled of fragrant herbs and cover with light, incessant smoke from incense burning at a corner. Alpha Farrell led us through a passage until we were in a dark room lightened by a globe in the middle that glowed orange-yellow.
  • “You want to find out if she is a spy?” The seer said as she sat before the glowing globe with only her face illuminated by its light. “The chains should not harm, as she is no spy, neither is she a rogue.”
  • Kirk gave a groan that showed his loss. “What do you want to do about this, Alpha?”
  • “She isn’t a spy as we thought, so we let her go,” he answered him. “Any information you feel you can pass to us about her if you’ve seen as much as knowing she wasn’t a spy, Elsa?”
  • “Anything you want to know about her, she will tell you about it, and at the right time,” the seer said as she stared at me.
  • I could feel her eyes bore into my soul from the light. My heartbeat increased at the thought she had seen through the facade I made of losing my memories.
  • Alpha Farrell made gestures to them to follow him as she finished. We walked out of the room, following the passage and the first room, and out into the sunlight. “Looks like your bet was wrong, Kirk. We could have killed an innocent soul for nothing.” He said as the five of us made it out of
  • the house.
  • Kirk scowled as he moved away from me while Frin moved closer, taking the cuff off my hands.
  • “You say you know nothing about yourself.” The alpha asked as he moved towards me, patting me on the shoulder.
  • “The only thing I remember is that I woke up in your dungeon,” I said, continuing the lie.
  • He nodded his head as he accepted everything.
  • “Would you mind if you stayed at my place until you piece back the fragment of your memories when you remember them?”
  • “You can’t do that, sir,” Kirk said, moving to where we stood. “She might not be a spy or a rogue, but we can’t place her close to you.”
  • “I’m the one staying with her. I’ll bear the consequences myself, Kirk,” he said, staring down his man.
  • I didn’t think he could do that as his grip tightened on my shoulder to his replies. He calmed down after a while, turning to me with a smile. “I’m waiting for your reply.”
  • “Looks like your lie actually worked for us,” Lyra said with a swirl in her tone.
  • “Yes,” I answered after I made it feel like I thought about it.
  • “That’s all I needed to hear,” he said as he removed his hand from my shoulder. “You are a member of this pack now. They are witness to it.” He continued as he looked at the three of them to make it certain. Kirk looked less serious about the matter.
  • “Thank you.”
  • I muttered a little appreciation
  • “And about your name,” he said as he straightened his body. “I’ve already thought about a name for you,”
  • “What’s it?”
  • “You’ll address him as Alpha,” Kirk butted in.
  • “Leave her alone,” Alpha Farrell reprimanded him before he turned his gaze to me again. “How does Gabriella Barron sound to you?”
  • “That’s a nice name,” Lyra said. “Would take me a while to get used to it.”
  • “I’ll take whatever you give, Alpha,” I said with a lowered head.
  • “That is your name from now on.” He said as he turned around, leading the way.
  • “Gabriella Barron,” I muttered the name as I followed him. It was a nice name for a fresh start, and that was one thing I needed at the moment.
