Chapter 8 Eight
- Alfredo’s Pov
- A groan escaped my lips as sleep evaded me from the knock on the door. I trudged to the door, aching to sleep with some hours left before I would do anything.
- “What’s it?” I asked as I opened the door to see the face of my mother’s Beta, dressed in white clothes tucked neatly into a black skirt that fitted her shape.
- “Your mother wants you to know your fiance is ready to leave,” she said without batting an eyelid.
- I covered my mouth as I made to yawn, closing the door on her. “Tell her I’ll be on my way soon.”
- She put her leg in between the space before I could close it shut. “She said right now.” Her eyes burned almost the same way my mother’s eyes would burn when she needed your attention.
- “Let me clean up and I’ll be with her,” I said to pacify the beta. She nodded as she removed her foot. The sound of her heel clicking to the ground echoed around the hall. I sighed as I shut the door, moving past the furniture and to the bathroom.
- I stood in front of the mirror, staring at myself. My hair fell across my face, covering one side of my eye.
- “Are you still thinking about how to get her?” Dex asked. His scruffy voice echoed in my ear even as I turned on the shower. Steam spread across the bathroom as the almost boiling water steamed my flesh.
- “She should be mine; forever mine,” I let the water roll down my face as I turned to the mirror. My reflection stared back at me, showing me all the flaws I created to have her.
- Nothing extra was said between my wolf and me after the bathroom incident. I stepped out of my room dressed in a white shirt, leaving two buttons open at the top, mixed with plaid trousers.
- “There he is,” Mother said as I walked to the living room. Princess Sheila and her guards stood with her. Four guards were by her side with two maids.
- “Didn’t think you would not want to walk your fiancee off.”
- “Why wouldn’t I?” I asked as I went to meet Sheila. She dressed differently today, a red top over an ash skirt that exposed her milky skin. I swallowed hard before taking her into my embrace. She smelled of roses and a blend of fruits that would make you want to eat her.
- “I wasn’t expecting you either,” she said as I pulled away, holding her hands in mine.
- “That would make me a bad husband, wouldn’t it?” I asked with a smile, as she made to turn towards the door; both of us walking hand in hand.
- Mother cooed as she followed us, a smile on her face when we got to the door. We stopped in front of the car provided for her. It was a Mercedes Benz, painted black with tinted glasses.
- “Tell her to wait,” Dex said as one guard opened the door.
- I held her hand before she made to move into the car. “There’s something missing in this union,” I said as she straightened to stare me in the face.
- “And what’s that?” She asked like there was something she also wanted to hear.
- “We’ve settled the matter between ourselves and we know this union will be between us, but our wolves have to make their decisions also,” I said without a breather, half expecting her to say we can do it another time.
- “Go on,” she said as she positioned herself to listen to me.
- “Dex wants to confirm everything with your wolf
- and until that, this will be more than just a farce,” I said, glancing at where Mother stood with that impeccable smile on her face that makes you think she can do no wrong.
- “Well, I’ve waited for that to happen for a while now. At least throughout the ceremony and part of the night, but he didn’t reach out to her. What made you think she would accept anything from him now?” She asked but made it seem we were involved in casual talks with occasional flashes of her smile.
- “I know I can be a klutz sometimes, even my wolf,” Dex growled inside me as I spoke, muttering his argument about being a klutz.
- “I know that already. The Luna of Silver rose; your mother wanted me to know that in advance. That’s the reason I’m not throwing a tantrum right now.”
- I gave out a sly chuckle with a glance at my mother, who remained with that smile still on her face. “You’ll let him talk to her?”
- “Lisa will decide if she wants to answer him or not. He would have to call her for us to find out,” she said as she leaned on the car, her elbows propping her head up.
- “Her name is Lisa?” I asked while trying not to make the atmosphere tense with awkwardness. Dex knew what to do as he called to the wolf inside her. Both of them spoke to each other without our knowledge until he was done.
- I took Sheila’s hand when I realized Dex finished with what he needed to do, helping her into her car. I planted a kiss on her hand before I let go of it.
- “I didn’t expect that,” she said as she looked up at me. I flashed her a smile as I closed the door shut, placing my hands in my pockets as the cars purred to life.
- I watched as the cars drove out of the mansion, watching it disappear into the distance towards the gate.
- “You’ve grown more than I expected,” I turned to see Mum beside me, waving the car off before she turned around.
- “You don’t expect me to remain a child, do you?” I asked as I followed her into the house. The atmosphere returned to the way I knew it to be, only with an exception. My heart ached as I recalled it.
- “I expected you to bear in mind the responsibilities you have, and they are heavier than just you,” she said as we entered the house. I stopped in the middle of the living room while she walked to the stairs that would take us to our various rooms. Taking the staircase that would lead her to her room.
- “I know that already, mum. Let me do things the way I want,” I said as I moved to the stairs that would take me to my room.
- We stood at opposite sides of the house, she with a smile on her face. I knew I had a straight face on, tired from her interfering in my life. She walked away into the hall, almost not making a sound with her feet.
- “What did you tell Lisa?” I asked Dex as I made for my room to continue my sleep from where I left off.
- “Same thing I would tell anyone that is meant to be our mate,” he answered with nonchalance.
- “Lisa accepted?” I asked as I stopped in front of my door. My hands were on the doorknob as I waited for his answer. “You better answer quickly. I’d like to go back to bed.”
- “Not like I don’t want to be in bed as well,” he countered, sprouting brown fur from my body. “She said yes.”
- “That’s as much as I want to hear,” I said as I turned the doorknob, slipping into my room. The maids had done justice to it within the time I left. Even the clothes I could wear for the rest of the day folded over my table.
- “We’ve got to find her,” Dex said as I walked to the bed, dumping myself face-first into the foam.
- “We would findd her er,” I said with my voice muffled by the bed. “We’ll find her,” I repeated before drowning in my subconsciousness.
