• So far, Grigore hadn’t shown his face yet. Instead, I was bothered by this exotic woman who always claimed me as her mate. What was she on about? She wasn’t a supernatural being, was she? I couldn’t feel it. The small sword amulet I had on, dangling on a gold chain, hadn’t felt cold as ice, an indication that I faced a possible enemy. It was a gift from my father when I officially finished my hunter training. Every vampire hunter had an amulet, a supernatural being detector, but of a different design for each one.
• I was mad when I saw Fukayna in my kitchen. I clearly warned her and even told her not to come back. But here she was. Without her knowledge, one of my vampire hunter friends tipped me off about a woman who was killing off vampires almost every night. Catalin was assigned by the organization to keep me out of danger. Most probably, it was an order from my father. My friend did not say so, but I knew he was tasked to do it. Why else was he here in this area? He was supposed to be in another country. I did not question him and just let him do his job. I welcomed any help I could have, anyway.
