Chapter 7

  • Chapter 7
  • Kat’s chest rose and fell in uneven breaths as Luci's sinister grin seemed to falter her a little bit. The room felt suffocating and his commanding presence was already draining what little strength it was that she had left.
  • She waited for him to answer her. And the idea of freedom dangled before her eyes like a golden carrot it was just too tempting to resist, yet the terms of this "contract" twisted her insides. Still, the alternative which obviously was a life confined to his wrath for even was even more terrifying.
  • Luci placed the pen back on the table and stepped closer as he closed the distance between them and his dark and mischievous eyes bore into hers.
  • His voice was sharp when he spoke, almost as sharp as a razor.
  • "Well?" he asked in a tone that was laced with impatience. "Do you agree, or do I need to show you what defiance earns you?" He asked her.
  • Kat flinched at the implication. Her wrists throbbed at the memory of the cuffs and her butt cheeks pinched her from the countless punishments and whippings she had received over time, the ones she had endured. Her body trembled as her lips parted.
  • "I... I agree," she whispered in a voice that was hardly even audible but resolute nonetheless.
  • Luci's grin widened and a cruel gleam lit up jn his eyes.
  • "Good girl." he said as he looked her over. He took his time to realize that she looked impeccable in the dress she was putting on. If he didn't hate her so much he would have thought that she looked..... beautiful, even though she looked thinner.
  • "Oh and there is one more thing I forgot to add." He said and Kat looked at him, his lips curved into a smile. "You escape again, and I would find you and deal you an even harsher treatment than this." He said.
  • Tears welled in her eyes but she quickly blinked them away and nodded her head. She wouldn't cry—not now, not in front of him at the very least. Instead of crying, she forced herself to meet his eyes even though looking into his deep and turbulent eyes felt like standing naked under the scorching sun.
  • "Why me?" she asked softly. She was beyond heartbroken at his cruelty towards her. "Why would you... want this from me?" She asked him and her voice broke.
  • Luci’s expression hardened and his grin vanished in an instant. He stepped even closer and his unique scent filled her nostrils as he looked her up and down calculatively.
  • "Because I can, Katherine. " he said bluntly and the words landed like a slap. "I'm Lucifer Cain, I get what I want. That's why." He told her.
  • Kat’s face burned with humiliation.
  • The way he said it made her feel like a commodity like an object and not a person. She clenched her fists at her sides and her nails dug deep into her palms, it was almost drawing blood.
  • "Is this all what this is about?" She asked him as she dared to look him in his eyes.
  • Luci scoffed and his dark chuckle sent a shiver down her spine.
  • "What else would I care about? Do you think this is about you, Kat? Don’t flatter yourself." He told her dismissively.
  • Her stomach churned but she kept staring at him.
  • "You get me an heir, the sooner you do that, the better." He told her. "I don’t have time to waste on women who’ve dragged their names—and mine—through the dirt. You’re a means to an end. Nothing more." He told her.
  • Kat swallowed hard as her throat was dry. She felt like the walls were closing in around her, but she couldn't stop herself from speaking.
  • "And after I... give you this heir? You’ll let me go?" She asked again. She was desperate for an answer.
  • Luci smirked and his expression became once again unreadable. He just stared at her like he was enjoying the psychological torture he was throwing her way.
  • Of course he was. He was in fact a psychopath, she thought.
  • Luci simply shrugged his shoulders at her. Kat immediately grabbed the paper which was in his hands as she prepared to sign the papers.
  • Her hands tremblef as she reached for the pen that lay ominously on the table. Luci’s lips curled into a victorious smirk, but he said nothing as he watched her. She held the pen with an unsteady grip and stared at the lines of the contract. The words blurred as tears pricked her eyes, but she forced herself to focus. Her hand moved almost on its own and she scrawled her name across the page in a shaky but resolute signature.
  • Lucifer hid a sinister smile.
  • Atta girl, he thought inwardly.
  • The moment the pen left the paper the feeling of regret washed over her.
  • What had she just done?
  • What had she condemned herself to?
  • Her throat tightened and she swallowed hard as she tried her hardest to blink back the tears that threatened to fall.
  • Luci reached out and his long fingers brushed hers as he took the document from her grasp. She recoiled slightly at the contact, but he didn’t even seem to notice—or perhaps he didn’t care. He looked down at the signed contract with a dark and satisfied gleam in his dark eyes.
  • They were both momentarily distracted by a knock on the door and Luci looked up to see that Anthonio was standing at the door.
  • "Boss," Luci's capo said. "I've just got intel." He said.
  • "What?" Luci asked him.
  • "We've just got intel from one of Giovanni's clubs." He said and Luci glanced at Kat who stood watching him. He raised up his hand to silence Anthonio. He didn't want to hear more of it and especially not in her presence. As long as it concerned Giovanni, he was interested.
  • "Let's go." He instructed as he moved from his large desk. He came around the table.
  • Kat remained silent as her heart was still pounding in her chest. The room felt smaller and it was as if he walls were closing in around her as Luci folded the document neatly and tucked it under his arm. He turned away briefly, as if to leave, but then stopped and looked back at her as his expression hardened.
  • "Prepare yourself," he added coldly. "The process begins tonight." He said. It was an order.
  • Her heart sank and her body trembled as his words settled over her like a heavy shroud.
  • Already? She wondered.
  • "Tonight?" she whispered in disbelief. Her voice was soft.
  • "Did I stutter?" he barked out irritatedly in a sharp tone.
  • Kat bit her lip to keep herself from crying out. She hated how small and powerless she felt in front of him, but what choice did she have?
  • She only nodded her head mutely and her hands clenched into fists again.
  • Luci took a step closer he was so close that his unique scent—a mix of expensive cologne and something darker, almost feral—invaded her senses.
  • “You’ll learn, Katherine,” he said in a low and dangerous voice. “I always get what I want. And you… you’re no exception.” he told her.
  • With that, he turned on his heel and strode toward the door and out of the study with the signed document clutched firmly in his hand. Anthonio followed behind him.
