• The door to Lucifer’s study creaked open loudly, revealing Riley standing smack dab in the middle of the dimly lit hallway. She stepped inside, her combat boots clicking softly against the polished floor as she closed the door behind her. The air between them was different, unusual, but still, Riley reminded herself that she shouldn’t act stupid in front of him.
• Lucifer was seated at his desk, his posture relaxed but his gaze sharp as it followed her movements. The package from earlier was nowhere in sight, as it had been thrown out, but the unspoken tension of all the events that had unfolded earlier was still obvious, as clear as day.
