Chapter 5 Pregnancy

  • Quickly, the doctor reads the results:
  • "Miss, you're pregnant," says the doctor.
  • "Is it a joke?" Ana reacts in astonishment.
  • "Not at all, see for yourself.
  • "There must be a very serious mistake. I can't be pregnant. Ha, ha, ha, it can't be, it's impossible," Ana protests, skeptical of the news.
  • "Well, while you're digesting the news, I have to go, I still have a lot of patients to take care of.
  • "Dad, this is a lie. I have to take this test again, to find the fault, it is impossible for me to be pregnant, if I have never been intimating with anyone.
  • "Let's go, Ana," her father replies apprehensively.
  • "Dad, you believe me, don't you?" She asks, puzzled.
  • "Let's get out of here," his father replies, very seriously.
  • They leave the hospital and before getting into her father's car, Ana tells him:
  • "Dad, do you trust me?"
  • "Ana, for God's sake, how could you?"
  • "Dad, I swear I'm not pregnant, it's a mistake, let's stop at the first pharmacy and do a home test, to clear up any doubts. I'm not pregnant, Dad, please believe me," Ana breaks immediately, crying at her father's inexorable attitude.
  • "Let's go," his father says.
  • They get into the car and her father, who is out of orbit, doesn't speak to his daughter. Meanwhile, she looks at him out of the corner of her eye and is enveloped in a sea of tears all along the way.
  • They quickly arrive at the house, and Anne insists on convincing her father, that the news of her pregnancy is in his farce, her father looks suspicious:
  • "Dad, tell me something, your silence affects me. Please I need you to believe me, you know I never lie.
  • "Enough, Ana, you want to see my face. There in results, it says you're pregnant. And to get pregnant it takes two, and you are not the Virgin Mary. Don't be absurd, at least face your reality and tell me who is the father of your child? He's Steven's bum, please reply Who is he? His father asks angrily.
  • Ana looks at him with desperation, because she really tells the truth, she has never been intimating with anyone, she was really impregnated in the wrong way.
  • "I don't know, I don't understand how I'm pregnant.
  • "I'd better go, your cynicism knows no bounds, what a disappointment Ana, my pride has been shattered into a thousand pieces, at this news. You've thrown away your career, you're unconscious," her father leaves the house and slams the door shut.
  • At this moment, Ana is torn between her father's rejection and the truth. At this moment, he has in a loud voice the doubt of everything that is happening. He still doesn't connect the dots, from the time he went to Dr. John Jhetro's office, to be able to find a correct logic to the situation, which is revealed to him.
  • The door rings and it is her brother Abel who enters the house and is immediately astonished to see his sister so distressed.
  • "Ana, what's wrong?" Why are you crying?
  • In a desperate measure of finding relief, Ana gets up, embraces her brother and in his arms tells him the truth:
  • "I'm pregnant," she blurts out.
  • "How, I don't understand, you're not a virgin then?"
  • "Yes, I am, but according to that test, which I had in the hospital, I am. My dad doesn't believe me when I swear, I'm a virgin, he thinks badly of me. I want to die, Abel.
  • "No, little sister, don't say that. I do believe you; I've never seen you in anything weird with anyone, at least that I know of. But believe you, you're not one to lie. If you want, we're going to give you another test, I'm sure that one is upset, I don't know. You're not alone, Ana.
  • "Thank you, Abel, now I'm worried about my dad. He came out hating me.
  • "Don't say that, if my dad loves you. You're the favorite, because you're so good and smart, our father adores you silly, wait here I'm going to look for him. I know where she can be, as she dries those tears and leaves her anguished, that we're going to figure this out.
  • The good Abel gives her the consolation that the poor girl needs at this time, where she has so many mixed feelings.
  • Meanwhile at the Hufman Mansion, Tony and his faithful friends seek to get out of the routine a little, they are distracted and are attended by the service staff in charge of the mansion. They are located outside, in the comfortable recreation area.
  • "This house is a dream, brother," Alfred says.
  • "My father built it with everything in mind, like a good architect of dreams.
  • "Ha, ha, ha. The great Samuel Hufman, one of the best journalists in this country," says Justin.
  • "If my father was unique, I miss him very much.
  • "Well, let's leave the sadness for another time. I'll tell you; I'm dating Charlotte, she's got me eating out of her hand," the clever Justin points irreverently.
  • "You said the same thing about Mary, Julia and even Rossane," says Tony and everyone is dying of laughter.
  • "There is room in my heart, brother," says the intrepid Justin, who is the Casanova of the group.
  • "You should be serious, you're not a teenager, you're already 30 years old," Tony says.
  • "If I'm just in the prime of my youth, don't be a killjoy, Tony," Justin chides him.
  • "Tony, tell us about that girl, who was inseminated with samples of you. Alfred asks.
  • "The doctor and nurse left the country without a trace. Although I plan to go to that clinic, to talk to the secretary, I researched and the girl is the only one, who continues to work there with the new doctor.
  • "What are you waiting for?" She can probably give you more details," Justin nods.
  • "Your story, it goes beyond the barrier of believability, Tony, when you told me I can't believe it. No wonder you didn't tell me in the office," Alfred says.
  • "It's a delicate subject, which can't be talked about anywhere.
  • "Where's Rebecca?" Justin asks, about Tony's mother.
  • "She must be asleep by now. My mother, although she denies it, is the same as I am with Micaela. He misses my dad's company so much.
  • "Well, back to the girl, you've wondered if she really got pregnant. And there's a child of yours growing up, out there somewhere," Justin says.
  • "The certainty that this could be true haunts me," Tony stares sideways in disbelief.
  • "Let's toast, cheers," Justin proposes, and everyone clinks, their glasses smiling.
  • At Ana's house...
  • There at the door, his father stands with tears in his eyes:
  • "Daughter," she mutters. Ana looks at him from the sofa, she has done nothing but cry, all day at the extraordinary.
  • "Dad," she whispers, her father lunging at his daughter, giving her the comfort, she needs.
  • "My love, forgive me, your brother made me see the reality, you are not one to lie. We have to unite as a family, what do we need my beloved Lucia at this moment, she would have known how to react wisely. Instead, I've always been a brute.
  • "Don't say that, Dad. Daddy, the only thing that comes to mind is to go to the clinic, where I went for the check-up, the doctor did a procedure for me, I didn't know, since I had never gone to a gynecologist, I let him do it, but possibly connecting the dots I came to the conclusion, that they could have made me fertilized there. I can't find any other explanation," says Ana, using her reasoning.
  • "Then tomorrow, we're going to that clinic, and we'll make a fuss until we find out the truth about your pregnancy." Forgive me, my love, I love you Ana," says her repentant father.
  • "Thank you, Abel, I love you so much little brother.
  • "And I'm a fool of you, sometimes I play practical jokes on you. But deep down, you are the most important thing, to me and it is my duty, as a big brother, to take care of you and protect you. I'll go with you too, to that clinic, even if it's at the point of fists, we'll get the truth out of that doctor.
  • "What if it's a religious experience?" His father asks hermetically.
  • "For God's sake, Dad, let's not make a show out of this. Ana's logic is the one that fits the most, with this whole scenario, that guy must have fertilized her, it is the only explanation for this mistake. Taking advantage of my sister's innocence, he may have been practicing a new procedure and used her as a guinea pig, not caring about the damage it would cause.
  • "Your right son, I'm letting my imagination run wild.
  • "Don't talk any more, we'll find the truth tomorrow." My sister, she has someone to defend her.
  • They all come together as a family, in a warm family embrace.
  • What new direction will Ana's life take in the face of the news of her pregnancy?
