Chapter 6
- Roberta POV
- After fainting from weakness, I seemed to fall into a deep dreamlike state.
- As the only daughter of the Alpha of the Twilight Pack, my fate was doomed from an early age to live for the benefit of the pack. Every day was filled with responsibilities and sacrifices, and I had long since become accustomed to it. Before I married Marcus, I had never thought that love would become a part of my life.
- I felt a warm embrace. Through blurred vision, Marcus seemed to be carefully taking care of me. He gently stroked my cheek and whispered something to me. I tried to struggle to open my eyes, wanting to see if the man who had once been indifferent to me had truly changed.
- Memories flooded back.
- We first met on a summer afternoon, when Marcus was a funny and gentle young werewolf, and his smile was as warm as the sun. That day, I got lost in the forest, and just as I was panicking, he appeared in front of me, taking my hand and leading me back to the pack.
- "What's your name?" He asked me that day, his voice gentle and filled with concern.
- "Roberta," I answered shyly, looking into his deep eyes and feeling a strange sensation in my heart.
- "Roberta, do you remember the first time we met in the forest?" Marcus's voice pulled me back from memory, and there was a hint of wistfulness in his tone.
- I closed my eyes and did not answer. I wanted to know what he would say.
- Our mate bond was formed for the sake of peace between two wolf packs. I thought it was just a political marriage with no emotional foundation. However, as time went by, I found myself falling in love with him without realizing it. He was gentle one moment and cold the next, and I lost myself in his unpredictability.
- "Roberta, we must marry for the sake of the pack's peace," my father's words still echoed in my ears, and I nodded in agreement, accepting my fate.
- In the early days of our partnership, Marcus was indeed kind and considerate to me. I remember him picking flowers for me and gently kissing my forehead when I was tired.
- "Roberta, this flower was found deep in the forest today. It's beautiful, just like you," he said, handing me the flower with a gentle look in his eyes.
- These warm moments made me fall in love, and I thought we could spend our whole lives together. However, reality is always cruel.
- "Why, Marcus? Why choose to betray?" Bella appeared, her voice trembling, and my tears fell silently without control.
- "Roberta, our marriage had no basis in love. It was all for the benefit of the pack," Marcus seemed to return to his usual self, his voice cold and devoid of any warmth. Our relationship became even more painful after we lost our child. We were never meant to be mates, so the pregnancy was especially difficult. After Zora arrived, Marcus's attitude became cold and indifferent, while I sank into deep pain. I recalled the times when he was gentle with me, filled with conflicting emotions and confusion.
- I couldn't help but open my eyes and look at his face hidden in the darkness without expression under the moonlight.
- "Marcus, did you ever love me, even a little?" I asked him in a low voice, filled with longing.
- "Maybe there was once, but it's gone." He was silent for a moment, then said softly.
- "You're awake." His voice was cold, as if the tenderness I had felt was just a hallucination.
- "Marcus, what do you want?" I looked at him, filled with pain and anger.
- He didn't answer, just looked at me silently, and the eyes he had were filled with a complex emotion that was hard to describe.
- "What I want, will be achieved soon." Marcus still only gave me an ambiguous answer.
- "I don't understand."
- "You don't need to understand." Marcus's tone became increasingly cold, and his gaze returned to its usual coldness. We sat there in the darkness, staring at each other in silence. In my eyes, his face seemed to become clearer, but I also knew that the distance between us was becoming more distant.
- Marcus stared at me for a moment, then suddenly leaned in and kissed me. His kiss was aggressive, taking over my senses one step at a time until I couldn't breathe. Just as I was about to lose my breath, Marcus let go of me.
- His eyes were a bit blurry, but there was also an emotion that I couldn't read in them. He lost control and pushed me away violently, getting up from the bed and turning away from me. Then he looked back at me briefly before turning away again. At this point, Marcus had regained his usual cold expression.
- "Marcus, why have you changed?"
- However, the only response I got was silence. His indifferent expression was like a tall wall, shutting me out. The pain in my heart accompanied me everywhere.
- In this dim room, I couldn't help shedding tears. Marcus noticed, and carefully wiped away my tears with his thumb and gave a gentle kiss on my forehead.
- "Don't cry, Roberta." His words were as gentle as before, almost making me forget those painful memories and scars. "You haven't tasted even one-tenth of the pain you gave me."
- I caught my breath.
