Chapter 9

  • KAELYNN's POV
  • ❦❦❦
  • The twins have been acting the last few days strangely; I've noticed that they always fight over trivial matters or because they are racing to do something.
  • Just like right now, "Can you stay in my room, Rious? I was here first, and Darenn and I are going to play," Daniel said while hugging his twin, but it was obvious that he was faking his smile and was already choking Danrious.
  • "Niel, who said this room has to be first come, first served? Are you nuts?" Danrious said to his twin, creasing his brow. Since they're too busy arguing, this is my and Darenn's chance to escape and play in the backyard.
  • But before we could leave, the door was opened, and the most handsome vampire in this mansion, sir Daryl, entered.
  • "Kaelynn, I need you to go to the city because I have some orders for you," he didn't even bother looking at me and instead continued to browse on his phone.
  • "Huh? Kaelynn, why?"
  • "Hu? Why, Runo?" Both of them said at the same time in an irritated manner.
  • "Do you have any objections to that? She is our maid, and it is her responsibility," Sir Daryl said calmly, still tapping his phone. I noticed Sir Darenn pulling at my skirt, and I turned to face him.
  • "Can I come with you?" He asked, and I looked at Sir Daryl, who just shook his head with his face looking so serious and statesmanlike.
  • "I'm sorry, Darenn, you are not allowed to join me, but your brothers are here to look after you, right Danrious? Daniel?" When I asked the twins, they just pouted angrily at me.
  • "Argh! What kind of summer break is this?" They both shouted at the same time, and it appeared that Sir Daryl didn't like it, as he smiled, the scary one.
  • "Did you say anything?" Sir Daryl asked, and the twins became nervous and took Sir Darenn away from me.
  • "Nothing, hahaha, we'll take care of Darenn," they both said at the same time again before playing with sir Darenn, while little me here was still highly concerned about sir Daryl's orders.
  • "If you're going to ask me what my orders are, don't worry, it's too simple," he said, handing me a list.
  • "Buy everything on that list and deliver it to our company; my secretary is currently out of the office so that no one will arrange those," he said, and I nodded. He also took another item from his pocket.
  • I was taken aback; he was too close, and I was afraid my face would explode from overheating.
  • "There. Don't take it off if you're inside the company; all of the employees are vampires, and this one is a reminder that I ordered you to go there and that you're my property," he stated as I looked at a red ID lace.
  • He said I'm his property!? Me!?
  • Wait a minute, Runo! What on earth are you thinking?
  • I just nodded at him and didn't bother raising my head because I was sure my face was still red, and it would be too embarrassing if he saw me in that state.
  • "We'll accompany her!" I returned my gaze to the twins, who had shouted and had a bored expression on their faces. I'm sure they're just trying to annoy me, so I just raised an eyebrow at them.
  • "No need, you'll just annoy me," I said as Daniel stood up and grabbed my wrist.
  • "What if something bad happened in there?" Daniel stated, and Danrious stood up and took hold of my other wrist.
  • "One more thing, she might escape," Danrious said firmly, and that's when I remembered my plan.
  • If they let me go to the city, I can completely escape from here, but I need to bring Sir Darenn with me.
  • "She can't do that because the driver and some guards are with her," Sir Daryl said with a blank expression on his face.
  • "Also, do you have any plans to do that, Kaelynn?" He asked, and it was as if he was probing my inner self with those eyes, as if he wanted me to tell him about my plans.
  • "I can't do that, sir," I replied, nodding. He gave me a smile and tapped my shoulder.
  • "Good, don't worry. I'll follow you there to check your work, okay?" He said, and I nodded before leaving the room
  • "Sir Darenn, just wait here, okay?" I told Sir Darenn, but he just rolled his eyes at me and pouted with an irritated look, so I laughed and hugged him.
  • "Awww, so cute. I'll be back, promise," I said to sir Darenn, but he just rolled his eyes at me and then pouted with an irritated look. I laughed at his reaction and hugged him.
  • "For now, stay with your brothers; I'll return later." He nodded and appeared to be a tiny dog that wanted to come along and was already sobbing.
  • I want to take him with me, but Sir Daryl will kill me if I take him outside this mansion's grounds.
  • I kneeled before him and held his head, saying, "I'll come back, I promise." He looked at me and nodded as if he was about to cry.
  • I hugged and kissed his face; even though he can be grumpy sometimes, I know he's used to my playfulness whenever I'm with him.
  • Don't worry. I'm not going to leave you here.
  • I stood up and let the twins take care of Sir Darenn; the twins appeared devastated. Were they upset that I was leaving the mansion, or did they truly dislike taking care of Sir Darenn? Perhaps it's the latter—these two morons.
  • ❦❦❦
  • I feel like I'm a bird finally freed from its cage once I step out of the mansion's gate, I feel like I want to run and go to the orphanage directly, but I have these two guards with me, they both have unpleasant looks, and they're too quiet.
  • I went to the bookstore to buy everything listed on Sir Daryl's paper, and then to the supermarket to buy some noodles for the twins because they had already eaten all of my stocked noodles, and it seemed that they both loved it, so I bought as many as I could carry.
  • I also purchased some books for Sir Darenn with my own money; he likes stories about the universe, outer space, and stars, so I got a book about the galaxy.
  • As we finished buying, we headed straight to the company. When I entered the first level, the personnel looked at me differently, as if they were about to suck my blood out, but then they looked away when they saw the ID handed to me by Sir Daryl.
  • That is why I may walk freely, and here I am, still repairing the excess materials I purchased.
  • "Don't shut the door. The lock is broken, and there are no lights inside," said a male worker, and I nodded, so he left me alone.
  • It's a little cramped, dark, and dusty, with no window. I checked my watch and worked as quickly as I could.
  • It's almost 7:00 pm, and I know Sir Daryl came to his office at 3:00 pm. He said we'd go home together, so I'll just wait for him to call instead of staying at his office.
  • Also, I can't take it when it's just the two of us because I've been nervous lately about whether he's nearby or just us two. My heart is racing, and my face is becoming increasingly hot.
  • I don't like this feeling. This will simply be a hindrance to my job, and I don't want my feelings for him to deepen.
  • This isn't right, Runo! I smacked my cheek and shook my head. I need to concentrate on my work rather than my emotions because he's not human.
  • That will be difficult, so the sooner I stop myself and focus on anything else, the better.
  • "What were you thinking?" I gasped and turned around to see Sir Daryl standing beside the door.
  • "Oh, nothing," I said as I carried the last box that I planned to place on top of the cabinet, but because I was too short and this box was too heavy, I stumbled, and everything within the box fell to the floor.
  • He immediately entered the room and helped me pick up the materials, but we both looked at one other as we heard the door shut, the lights turned out, and we couldn't see anything.
  • The latch on the door is broken, and there are no lights inside. Oh no!! What should I do? I can't see anything, so I search for Sir Daryl in the dark.
  • "Sir Daryl? Where are you?" I asked and suddenly felt someone tugging my skirt, and a light from his cellphone opened. It's still dark, but this better than nothing
  • "I-I'll a-ask fo-for h-help," he stutteringly murmured, and I was taken aback by his way of talking. Is he shaking?
  • "Sir, are you okay?" He nodded, but he trembles when he holds his phone and can't even click it properly.
  • "I'll do it, Sir." I snatched the phone from him and began typing, but it wouldn't send; I checked the signal bar, but there was no service there.
  • "Sir, no signal," I said, and he got worse.
  • There is no signal here because it is already at the bottom of the building. I let out a sigh.
  • What are we going to do?
  • "Wait, Sir. I'll look for help." I was going to stand up and bang on the door when he pulled me in and hugged me.
  • I was surprised, and I couldn't speak or do anything.
  • "S-stay he-here," he stammered, his voice and body trembling. I don't know what to do in this kind of circumstance, but I just let him absorb some strength from me.
  • Yes, I'm afraid, but not because of the darkness, but because he might hear my heartbeats or realize that a part of me is loving this circumstance.
  • It's been minutes, but he's still trembling; it's strange. He's a vampire, but he's afraid of the dark.
  • "I'll go ask for help now, Sir Daryl." I moved his arms, wrapping on my left arm slightly, but he only tightened his grip, and the next thing I knew, his fangs had already pierced into my neck.
  • "Sir Daryl," I winced at the agony, but here goes the feeling that my body did not want to fight him.
  • I'm meant to stop him, but my body is resisting. I can't put into words how I'm feeling right now. I'm getting weaker, yet I'm still letting him.
  • "Just a little bit, Kaelynn. I'm sorry," he said, and I could already hear his calm voice; he also stopped sucking my blood, and it seemed he is running out of energy.
  • He collapsed and passed out; I lightly slapped his face, but he refused to open his eyes.
  • I was ready to stand up when I noticed he had a firm grip on my skirt. I looked at him, and he looked helpless in this circumstance.
  • He appears to be a child afraid of the dark. I feel sorry for him now that he is in such a horrible condition. So, I sit beside him and wait for help.
  • I let him sleep on my lap, and he's securely clutching my hands, making my heart race so rapidly that I just concentrate my mind on other things.
  • "Please let me out, Mom." I was taken aback by what he said; was he dreaming? I held his hand tightly since he appeared to be experiencing a dreadful dream.
  • I also chose to close my eyes and wait for help.

  • When I awoke, I realized I was already in my room, so I got up quickly and went to Sir Daryl's chamber. I noticed Mila checking for Sir Daryl, who was still unconscious.
  • "Mila, how is sir Daryl?" I asked, and she smiled at me.
  • "He's alright now, he just passed asleep, but he'll wake up soon. He's probably too busy with work, so his body is too weak," Mila added, and I agreed.
  • "Is sir Daryl afraid of the dark, Mila? But the mansion is gloomy too," I stated, and she seemed upset by what I said.
  • "He's traumatized, Kaelynn. When he was a kid, Madam Scarlet always locked him inside the cabinet, and he couldn't get out until Madam was satisfied, which is why he still has that dread inside him even now that he's an adult," she explained.
  • That's why he said those words earlier.
  • While sleeping, I stared at his tranquil face; he appeared to be a sweet child with no problems, but he also carried a burden.
  • Are all the siblings here carrying some trauma or trouble from their past? Is that why they all act like this? What is the matter with their parents?
  • I'm also confused, but one thing is certain: they all need parental care. They have parents, but it's as if they, like me, have never experienced life and care from their parents.
