Chapter 3 Royals Involved
- ~Lynn~
- I walk up the stairs, stopping outside of the Alpha’s office. I peek in, but the office is empty. I move next door and peek into the Luna office, only to find it empty. I’m not surprised the rooms are empty, but now I have to figure out where everyone is. “Beta?” I turn and notice a warrior behind me. I nod and wait for them to continue. “There was a call for you earlier. I took a message.” He hands me a piece of paper which I take and send him on his way.
- I abandon my plan to find my bestie and Alphas and make my way to my own office. I sit at my desk and dial the number from the paper, placing the call on speaker. I shuffle through some folders that were left on my desk. I love being Beta, but paperwork sucks! I didn’t even like doing assignments in school. If it hadn’t been for Tia pushing me, I might not have even graduated, if I’m being honest. “Gold Heart Pack. You’ve reached the castle. How can I direct your call?”
- Shit! The Gold Heart Pack……they are the royalty pack for the area. It’s like the country is divided into fourths, and a royal family runs each area. We rarely deal with the royals as long as everything stays within the law. We will deal with elders before the actual royal family. I have never met anyone from this pack or the castle, but they called for me. “Uh, yeah…..I’m Lynn Ross, Beta of the Emerald Lake Pack. I was returning a call.” Papers are shuffling, and there are different taps and clicks.
- “Ah, yes. Beta Morris called you. Please hold while I connect you.” Shit, shit! I have no idea what this call is about, but it can’t be good. I know we are keeping with werewolf law, so it can’t be that. The Alphas run a tight ship to ensure we don’t come under scrutiny.
- “Beta Morris. Is this Beta Ross of the Emerald Lake Pack?” I take a deep breath, the anxiety killing me.
- “Yes. I’m returning your call.” A throat clears on the other line.
- “Yes. I called because we have an issue, and we felt it best to inform your pack of what’s going on.” I hold my breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don’t know what this issue could be, but I’m not looking forward to hearing about it. “We wanted to let you know that….well….Aida Colby has escaped the hospital she was sentenced to.”
- I swear we can’t catch a fucking break! Every time things level out for us, some bullshit pops up. Tia finds her mates, then the Luna and her sisters go after her. She has to fight her own father after rescuing her kidnapped mate. Then her mom and the former Alpha go through it because some witch comes along, trying to take him for her own. Now, crazy pants has escaped the looney bin.
- My bestie doesn’t deserve any of this foolishness, and I don’t know how she will deal with it. She and her mates should be basking in the glow of being new parents. She has her dad back, and her mom is extremely happy. Instead, they will take time trying to figure out how to keep their family safe and protect themselves against unknown dangers. “Seriously?! FUCK!” My hand jumps up and slaps my forehead. Me and my damn mouth. “I…uh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to….uh….”
- “No, no, it’s okay. It IS a crazy situation, and all reactions are warranted. We’re investigating the hospital and trying to find out how this happened. We will be sending some people to you. We need some information, and we will have a couple of people to stay put as added security.” Fuck my life! This can’t be happening.
- “So…..uh….you are sending people here. When can we expect them?”
- “They should be there in the next day or so. I….I just want to apologize. This is a lot and shouldn’t have happened.” I thank the Beta and hang up. Ain’t this some shit?! I need to talk to the Alphas.
- ~Third Person~
- Beta Morris hangs up the phone and rubs his temples. This is disastrous and needs to be fixed as soon as possible. How the hell did the hospital allow a patient to break free? All prisons, be they regular or medical, are made to be impenetrable.
- A knock on the door causes the Beta to look up and call out to the person on the other side. The door opens, and two men walk in. They are the Lawson twins, the youngest children of the royal Gamma couple. They are the top warriors and best trackers the royal court has. They had to fit in somewhere since the Gamma position wasn’t available to them. Their older brother, Grant, will be taking that role soon. There are a few more months until the new group takes their oaths.
- The brothers come in and sit across from the Beta. They are identical twins but couldn’t be more different in personality and behavior. Devonte Lawson is the oldest of the two by 10 minutes. He is the epitome of a royal. Devonte is calm, calculating, poised, and proper. He follows all the rules and guidelines given by his parents and the King himself. Vonte Lawson is a bit of a wild child. He doesn’t see the benefit of ‘royal behavior.’ He doesn’t adhere to being prim and proper. He would much rather be himself and not have to mind everything he says and does. Together, they catch any and everything, making them an amazing team. They are the best ones to handle this issue that has landed at the Royal’s doorstep.
- “Gentlemen, I know you’ve been briefed on the current situation. We are so close to the appointment ceremony, and your father is busy with that. We have a prisoner that will be here by the end of the day. Her purpose is to help you two find the missing prisoner. You two will take her and five warriors to the Emerald Lake pack. The Beta will be expecting you. We need that prisoner found quickly and with as little disruption as possible.” The twins nod and head out of the office to prepare for their trip.
