Chapter 8 Excitement

  • Rex adjusted his pants to his waist, making sure they did not slip down when he got inside. His pants have been too big for him because of the hunger he experienced at the police station.
  • Kanye West made sure he starved that day by telling the police not to offer Rex anything. Rex stayed in detention for twenty-four hours, which was against the rule of the country, but who is Rex to defend his right, being a wretched nobody?
  • He managed to hold his pants firmly on his waist and returned to Jackson.
  • "Are we good to go?" Jackson asks Rex.
  • "We can go now " Rex answered politely.
  • They entered the building, and Rex nearly ran out immediately. The adorning chandelier hanging on the ceiling and other decorative lights lit up the parlor; he never imagined the interior would be that fascinating.
  • "What did you say was your name, man?" he questioned Jackson.
  • "Jackson sir,"
  • "Did you know what you were just doing? Did you know how much your boss paid to rent this house for the business he has in mind? Why did you want me to be the scapegoat? After my stay in jail, do you want to put me in life imprisonment this time? Have I not suffered enough for...
  • "I'm sorry, Mr. Rex, for any inconvenience I've caused you. This house is not rented; however, it belongs to my boss, and this was among his least achievements in the business.
  • "Jackson, what's taking you so long to bring him up for the discussion?" Mr. Alphonsus asked while stepping down from upstairs.
  • "I'm sorry, sir. I was trying to convince him to go with me, but he seemed uncomfortable stepping inside; that was the reason for the delay. I'm so sorry, sir," Jackson pleaded.
  • That was when Rex realized the house he was inside belonged to no one else but Mr. Alphonsus.
  • "Young master, can we go in now?"
  • Rex nodded in affirmation as he was stunned that only one person could acquire that mansion, not even as his only begotten property but as one of his least valuable.
  • Jackson led Rex to Mr. Alphonsus's private room, where he discusses certain secret things with the executives in his firms. The room was deafening with silence; one could hardly hear someone screaming from the nearby room.
  • "Young Rex, welcome to our empire, your empire to be soon."
  • "Yes, sir, I believe I could achieve this with hard work and smart work, but this 21st-century fate seemed partial," Rex replied.
  • Mr. Alphonsus laughed sarcastically. He glared at Rex and laughed again, and Rex wondered what was funny about what he said.
  • "Young Rex, if I may ask you a question, permit me to ask," the old man asked.
  • "Of course, sir, who am I to reject your question?" Sure, ask me. Rex retorted.
  • "The fact you're a nobody today does not guarantee you do not have your rights, and besides, you could be great only if you believe you can. I believe you may believe the doctrine that says, "With faith, you can move a mountain," do you?
  • Rex sighed, "Of course, I do believe."
  • "Uhmm, Rex, I'm sorry for this, but you're my grandson, and I meant it when I said that. Your father is my son, whom your mother denied, but luckily I'm now able to get you back, to get the heir of my company back."
  • "Mr. Alphonsus, are you sure you have not mistaken me for someone because I cannot remember my parents telling me I have a live grandfather?" Rex replied honestly.
  • "I'm not mistaken, my beloved son. "Forgive me, Rex, for allowing you to go through all this while your parents died," Mr. Alphonsus said and knelt.
  • Rex rushed immediately to him.
  • "Sir, please don't get me killed by your guards. I'm sorry," Rex said, trying to lift him from the floor.
  • "It's time for you, Rex, to become the consortium heir of my companies," Mr. Alphonsus said.
  • "Your consortium hair?" Rex asked to be sure he heard him correctly.
  • "Yes, my beloved son." "It's your right; you're the real, hidden consortium heir of my companies and properties."
  • "Do you even know what a consortium is?" Rex asked, thinking the old man's age was part of the problem.
  • "To be a consortium's heir, you have to be a shareholder in multiple business companies, at least up to sixty companies," he told the old man, trying to make him understand what he had been saying all this time, but the look on the old man's face confused him more. The old man did not look to be convinced; instead, he was beaming.
  • Mr. Alphonsus stood up and headed to his document boxes. He has six different boxes placed on top of each other, but the particular box he brought was hidden inside the general big box. He brought out the little rectangular box and went back to Rex. He opened it and handed all the documents inside to Rex.
  • As Rex was going through those documents, he couldn't believe his eyes—the old man was the owner of the top companies he had been hearing about since childhood and has shares in different top international companies.
  • "This is to certify that Mr. Alphonsus Ethan has successfully bought the Macro social media app from Mark Flynch for $500 billion on February 16th, 2019," he flipped to the next document.
  • "This is to certify the ownership of BOD Gas Company as Mr. Alphonsus Ethan, who purchased the company on this day, June 18th, 1989, with the coming worth of $60B," Rex gasped after reading out the amount. He could not believe the old man could have made such an amount as of then. He dropped the documents on the table and stared at Mr. Alphonsus.
  • "You could make this as of then?" Rex asked.
  • "That is to tell you who you are," Mr. Alphonsus uttered and smiled.
  • Rex couldn't bear it, so in his Macro app, Kanye proposed to his girlfriend and spread fake news accusing him of theft and violation of privacy, and worst of all, the app he went live on arresting him, tarnishing his image, was rightfully his.
  • "Just yesterday, I was in a cell thinking of how to get bailed, and now I'm about to be made the heir of one of the most prominent companies in the whole of London. I won't say much until I'm more convinced this was not a dream," Rex mumbled, not knowing his grandfather heard him because of the deafening silence in the room.
  • "I know how you feel, my son, because of the suddenness."
  • As stated in the papers about those companies I hold shares in, no one would replace my name or take my share; you'll only take my position there after my demise. Therefore, I'll grant you a $50,000 monthly allowance, excluding your caretaking and school fees, until you fully assume the role of CEO in charge of my companies and my shares.
  • Hearing this, Rex lost control and ran out of the room screaming.
