Chapter 7 Two Caring Older Brothers

  • Creak!
  • One minute later, the doors to the ward were pushed open from outside. Laura turned her head and followed the sound to see four figures entering through the doorway.
  • Crunch!
  • She took a bite of the peach she had been toying with, lying comfortably on the hospital bed.
  • "Laura, how are you feeling now? If you're uncomfortable anywhere, don't keep it to yourself. Make sure to tell me, okay?"
  • Leading the way was a middle-aged woman carrying a stainless steel thermal lunchbox. She spoke as she walked.
  • She was the original Laura's biological mother, Bianca Swanson.
  • Following behind Bianca were three individuals.
  • In total, their original family consisted of five members, including her two older brothers.
  • On the far left walked a tall man, standing at about 1.83 metres tall, aged around twenty-five or twenty-six. He was slender and tall, dressed casually yet smartly. This was Felix Ingalls, Laura's eldest brother.
  • Standing in the middle was a teenage boy about seventeen or eighteen, nearly as broad-shouldered as the eldest brother and already standing at 1.8 metres tall.
  • With dyed ash-brown hair and features no less striking than his elder brother's, this was Curtis Ingalls, Laura's second brother.
  • As for the person standing on the far right, he was a middle-aged man in dusty black clothes, with greying temples despite being only in his early fifties. It was evident he had endured much hardship.
  • This was Laura's biological father, Gerald Ingalls.
  • "Mm." Laura glanced at the mother, who was constantly reminding her to pay attention to her health. Typically quiet, she seldom spoke up about such trivial matters.
  • For some reason, seeing the family members before her filled her chest with a sudden warmth.
  • Laura understood. In her past life as the world's most feared assassin, her very existence struck terror into the hearts of global elites. Yet, despite her formidable reputation, she had longed for the warmth of family.
  • Once, family relationships had been a luxury beyond her reach.
  • Now, she suddenly had it all, and the feeling was beyond words.
  • "I'm fine," she said, offering Bianca a dry smile.
  • "You silly child ... " Seeing her daughter smile, Bianca felt a weight lift from her chest.
  • She continued, "Next time, don't be so reckless. When the teacher said you fell from the third floor, it nearly scared me to death!"
  • It seemed that she didn't know Laura had jumped from the third floor herself.
  • Naturally, Laura had no intention of explaining.
  • "Yeah, when Mom told us last night that you fell from the third floor, it gave me quite a scare. I'm just glad nothing serious happened." Eldest brother, Felix smiled gently as he walked up to Laura and ruffled her hair.
  • "Mom, where's the chicken soup you brought? Hurry and give it to her."
  • Compared to the eldest brother, Curtis, the second brother, had a roguish air about him. He suddenly interjected their conversation.
  • "Oh right, I almost forgot!" Bianca finally remembered the chicken soup she had brought.
  • She quickly took out the stainless steel thermal lunchbox, placed it on the bedside table, and served a steaming bowl of chicken soup, handing it to Laura.
  • "Be careful now, it's hot," Bianca cautioned.
  • "Excuse me, would the family of the patient in bed C1103, Laura Ingalls, please come to the nurse's station to settle the hospital fees?"
  • A female nurse's voice sounded from outside the door.
  • Seeing Bianca busily placing the soup down, Laura heard her caution herself, "Laura, be careful not to burn yourself. Blow on it before you eat. Your dad and I will go pay the hospital fees and be back soon."
  • With that, Bianca took Gerald's hand and temporarily left the room.
  • With the couple gone, it freed up space for Felix and Curtis. Unlike Felix, Curtis had always carried a rebellious air, akin to a streetwise ruffian, exuding a strong sense of being a tough guy.
  • However, his affection for his younger sister Laura was genuine.
  • As soon as their parents left, Curtis walked over to Laura with a grin, patting his bulging pockets.
  • "Laura, guess what tasty treat I brought you? It's your favourite! Come on, take a guess!"
  • Little did he know, Laura wasn't interested in food at all. She looked up at him and asked directly, "Do you have a phone?"
  • "Huh? Oh ... " Curtis was momentarily caught off guard.
  • It was actually his older brother, Felix, who quickly handed over his phone.
  • "What are you up to, Laura?" Curtis leaned in, asking curiously.
  • Under the scrutiny of both brothers, Laura didn't hesitate. She confidently used Felix's phone to open a browser, swiftly navigating through a series of rapid actions until she accessed a webpage with a black background and text in red, yellow, and white.
  • All the fonts on this platform are in Vormesh. Regular people can't understand them at all.
  • "Laura, what kind of website is this?" Indeed, Curtis was completely baffled.
  • Naturally, he couldn't understand it at all.
  • Laura smirked, her hands deftly navigating the phone without pause.
  • She had logged into an overseas network, accessing an international underground black market platform where deals for firearms and military hardware thrived in the shadows of the illicit world.
  • It was also a global hub for top-tier hackers.
  • To put it more plainly, it was a assassin website where assassins and their employers exchanged and executed contracts.
