Chapter 7 Three Agreements

  • As Ken drove, neither of them spoke a word. The atmosphere inside the car became unusually eerie, continuing until they reached the Bayview Estates.
  • Pulling into the parking lot, Ken, like a professional bodyguard, opened the car door and escorted Amanda out.
  • Amanda hugged herself, wearing a dress, feeling the cool air. Ken, in a gentlemanly manner, took off his own coat and draped it over Amanda. This gesture brought a warmth to her cold heart that she had never felt before.
  • "Let's go. I'll take you home."
  • Ken looked around, then pressed the elevator button.
  • Amanda silently stood by. At this moment, an SMS arrived on her phone. It was a personnel transfer order from the Nixon company.
  • "Starting today, Chief Technology Officer Amanda is on unpaid leave, awaiting company assignment."
  • "Unpaid leave!"
  • Amanda's eyes widened, and after a moment, she understood.
  • Ken hit Samuel Nixon, and the Nixon family would never let it slide.
  • Unpaid leave was just the beginning. There might be a storm of revenge waiting for her.
  • "The elevator's here."
  • Ken gestured toward the elevator.
  • Amanda walked in slowly. The occurrence of this incident left her unsure whether to be thankful or resentful toward Ken.
  • Back at the entrance of her home, after entering the password to unlock the door, Ken seemed to have no intention of coming inside.
  • "You're safely home, so I'll..."
  • "You can come in too."
  • Amanda said coquettishly, her voice as soft as a mosquito.
  • Entering the house, both of them felt a bit awkward. Although he was the publicly chosen husband, Amanda wasn't that open-minded to accept him so quickly.
  • Allowing him into the house was because Amanda knew, with Samuel Nixon's vengeful personality, Ken's fate wouldn't be pleasant. It was only at home that revenge wouldn't be so blatant.
  • Thinking about this, Amanda said, "From today on, you sleep on the sofa. My room is off-limits to you. Lock the bathroom door when in use, and no wandering around the house naked."
  • "Yes."
  • Ken subconsciously stood at attention, seemingly accepting orders.
  • But at that moment, the door opened, and Ellie, Amanda's mother, walked in angrily. As soon as she saw Ken, she started berating him.
  • "You useless thing, causing trouble left and right. What are you? You not only harmed my daughter, but now you're causing trouble for us. Do you want to die and drag us down with you?"
  • "Mom, what's going on?"
  • Ellie angrily picked up a broom, pointing it at Ken, "Don't ask me what's going on. You should know. He actually hit Samuel, and now Alfred Nixon is furious, seeking accountability. It's all because of him!"
  • The more Ellie spoke, the angrier she became, even starting to chase Ken with the broom.
  • "Mom, don't hit him. He did it to protect me. It's not his fault!"
  • Amanda stood between Ken and her mother, trying to persuade and explain, but it didn't seem to work.
  • "Daughter, don't stop me. I'll beat him to death today."
  • "Mom!"
  • Amanda sternly shouted, "Can't you see if he's a friend or foe? This is obviously a conspiracy by the Nixon family. How can you be so confused?"
  • Pointing at her own nose, Ellie angrily said, "I raised you single-handedly, taking care of you. It's not easy for me. Now that you've grown wings, you dare to call me an old lady. I..."
  • Ellie swung the broom, sitting on the ground like a shrew, suddenly burst into loud tears.
  • Amanda, looking at her mother with strands of white hair on her temples, also felt helpless. She said in a low voice, "Mom, stop crying. They just want me to take unpaid leave. It's just a job. Leaving the Nixon family, I can still live well."
  • Although Amanda spoke so resolutely, her heart was unbearably uncomfortable. She had fought tooth and nail for the interests of the Nixon family, but now, with her grandfather falling ill, her uncle and cousin had changed completely.
  • "They don't just want to kick us, mother and daughter, out of the Nixon family. It's clearly an attempt to force us into a dead end!"
  • Thinking of this, Amanda clenched her fists tightly.
  • Ken stood on the side, looking at Amanda.
  • "Don't worry. With me here, no one will dare to bully you from now on!"
  • Ellie shouted at Ken, "You're just a useless person. What's the use of being a soldier for a few years? You can't even support yourself. How can you take care of both of us? Anyway, I don't agree with this marriage. Go wherever you want! Leave our house soon!"
  • Saying this, Ellie started to use force, pushing Ken toward the door.
  • But Ken was like a mountain, unmoved. His eyes, bright and alert, were fixed on Amanda.
  • Although Amanda didn't know much about the man in front of her, a stranger suddenly became her husband. She still couldn't fully accept it.
  • But Ken had fought for her today, hitting Samuel Nixon. Given Samuel Nixon's character, he would definitely send someone to deal with Ken.
