Chapter 4 The Landlady

  • Gordon leaned in for a closer look and was also taken aback.
  • “Check his breathing!” Aston instructed.
  • “All right, Dr. Russell!”
  • Gordon walked over to the operating table and extended his finger toward Kayden's nose. In less than a second, as if shocked by electricity, he instantly pulled back.
  • He couldn't help but swallow, giving Aston a slight nod.
  • Raelynn was in a state of panic and quickly asked, “Dr. Russell, how is my father doing? Has he... passed away?”
  • Aston took a deep breath and said, “No! Ms. Ryton, congratulations! Mr. Ryton, blessed as he is, has miraculously come back to life. It's truly a miracle!”
  • “What?”
  • Raelynn was instantly stunned, her tears flowing freely in her excitement.
  • Gordon exclaimed, “Dr. Russell, your medical skills are truly remarkable! Without your prior resuscitation efforts, how could Mr. Ryton have possibly regained consciousness?”
  • Raelynn turned her head and gave him a glance.
  • She wasn't a fool to become CEO at such a young age.
  • Anyone with discernment could see that the hospital had already issued a death notice. It was Elio who had stepped in and saved her father's life.
  • Aston's face flushed with embarrassment. He shot a stern glance at Gordon and said coldly, “Stop sucking up to me! The one who saved Mr. Ryton was not me, but Mr. Leaffe!”
  • “I...”
  • When Raelynn recalled how she had slapped Elio before, her body suddenly shuddered. She was filled with immense guilt.
  • Aston looked at Raelynn's state and shook his head. He then began to arrange for doctors to urgently attend to Kayden.
  • Thanks to the nail, Kayden's vital signs were surprisingly normal.
  • After intensive emergency treatment at the hospital, his injuries were finally taken care of. He was then placed in the intensive care unit for recovery.
  • Upon seeing her father's condition stabilize, Raelynn could no longer sit still. She quickly left the hospital, ready to find Elio and express her sincere gratitude.
  • Aston was adamant. He issued a firm directive to Gordon to persuade Elio to join the hospital at all costs.
  • Elio returned to his modest rented house, still nursing a bellyful of anger.
  • He had exerted a great deal of effort to save Kayden from the brink of death.
  • Yet, Raelynn had impulsively slapped him without even bothering to hear his side of the story.
  • “It's so hard to be a good person! I'm jobless, and I can't pay the rent. Life is so tiring.” Elio lay on the bed, cradling his head in his hands, his face etched with despair.
  • At that moment, a woman's voice came from outside the rental house. The voice was soft and quite pleasant to the ears.
  • “El, are you there?” the woman asked.
  • “Susanna, I'm here.”
  • Elio sprang to his feet and flung the door open. A wave of a mature woman's intoxicating scent enveloped him, leaving him utterly entranced.
  • A woman donned in a breezy pink nightgown was spotted standing in front of Elio's door. She appeared to be in her early thirties, boasting an alluringly curvaceous figure.
  • Even though she was dressed in a fluffy nightgown, it was hard to conceal her impressive figure. Her slender legs were wrapped in nude stockings, making her look quite enticing.
  • She was Elio's landlady, Susanna Hudson.
  • Susanna's husband was a business manager who was often away on work trips. He would be gone for weeks, sometimes even months at a stretch, without returning home. Whenever he did come back, it usually resulted in arguments. In short, their marital relationship was far from harmonious.
  • So, Susanna would often seek out Elio for a chat, pouring out her troubles. Over time, this led to the two of them becoming incredibly familiar with one another.
  • Susanna was also very considerate toward Elio, even going as far as not charging him rent. Elio somehow felt he was playing the role of a sugar baby.
  • Nevertheless, he was also very grateful. As soon as Susanna arrived, he quickly opened the door and greeted her.
  • Susanna strolled in, her full figure swaying with each step. Spotting Elio's clothes scattered haphazardly, she chuckled and said, “This is what happens when you're single. Look at the mess in this room. I'll gather your dirty clothes and wash them for you.”
  • As she spoke, she moved to Elio's bedside, gathering the dirty clothes and underwear he had discarded. She was about to take them away to wash when he hastily said, “Susanna, you don't have to. I've been living here for several months without paying rent, and you're even doing my laundry. That's really not right.”
  • “It's no big deal. You're a decent young man. Besides, I have nothing much to do at home, so helping you with your laundry is nothing. What, are you embarrassed about me washing your underwear?” Susanna playfully waved a pair of Elio's underwear in her hand, laughing heartily.
  • Elio was left speechless. His face felt as if it was on fire.
  • After gathering the clothes, Susanna bent over, displaying her curvaceous figure toward Elio, and began tidying up his things.
  • Stealthily, Elio cast a glance at the prominently curved area of Susanna, feeling an inexplicable urge welling up within his heart.
